Chapter 116 - Luck

In Japan, behind the glittering modern cities and the ancient traditions that are still revered, lies a secret government organization tasked with handling various supernatural phenomena: the Divine Enforcers.

The Divine Enforcers are divided into two main divisions with different focuses. The Historical Complications Committee is responsible for dealing with matters involving magic and otherworldly or alien entities. Meanwhile, the Onmyou Agency bears a more traditional task, handling issues related to youkai, ghosts, evil spirits, and the onmyoji themselves.

Within the structure of the Onmyou Agency, there exists an elite hierarchy known as the Twelve Divine Generals. They are a group of first-class onmyoji recognized as the best spellcasters in all of Japan.

Although each of them has mastered various high-level techniques, they are best known for their unique specializations, which are the origin of the nicknames they bear. Therefore, an onmyoji with abilities and skills far exceeding the average is considered worthy of the title of Divine General.

Dairenji Suzuka is the youngest among the Twelve Divine Generals, and she is known by her proud moniker: "The Prodigy." At her relatively young age, she has demonstrated extraordinary talent and mastery of onmyou, earning her the respect of her senior colleagues.

That afternoon, in a remote location on the outskirts of Tokyo, Suzuka and her team arrived with serious expressions. The intelligence they had received indicated that this place was the main hiding base of a terrorist organization known as the Twin Horn Syndicate.

Suzuka had been leading the investigation into this dangerous group for some time, and they had finally obtained a clue to their hideout's location. However, the scene that greeted their arrival was far from what they had imagined.

"What exactly happened here...?" Suzuka murmured in astonishment, her eyes scanning the horrific scene before her.

The Japanese-style house looked as if it had been struck by a devastating natural disaster. The walls were cracked and partially collapsed, furniture was scattered and broken, and most horrifyingly, human corpses lay lifeless on the ground, creating a scene like a gruesome slaughterhouse. Blood soaked the floors and walls, mixed with dust and debris.

Suzuka and her team exchanged glances with expressions of shock and horror. They had come to arrest members of the Twin Horn Syndicate, but all they found were traces of destruction and death. It was clear that someone had gotten there before them, and with incredible brutality.

"What should we do, Dairenji-sama?" One of her team members asked in a low voice, still shaken by the scene around them.

Suzuka took a deep breath, trying to control her shock and refocus on the task.

"Check the surroundings. Make sure there are no survivors." She commanded in a firm tone.

Then, she closed her eyes for a moment, focusing her spiritual senses to perceive any residual magical energy that might have lingered in the environment.

A moment later, Suzuka's eyes opened with even greater shock than before.

The magical energy she felt in this place was far more powerful than the magical energy of any Divine General she had ever witnessed. The power felt wild, primal, and almost uncontrollable. There was an aura of dominance and absolute power that sent shivers down her spine.

'What kind of monster did the Twin Horn Syndicate provoke that caused their destruction?'

Shizuka, who was proud of being a Divine General, now felt curious about the identity of the other party who had destroyed the Twin Horn Syndicate.

In the apartment living room.

"By the way, who ended up getting the Holy Grail?" Ren suddenly asked Hayasaka.

"After Lord Alec and Lord Voban fought fiercely. In the end, the Holy Grail fell into Lord Alec's hands."

Although Hayasaka was a maid serving Ren, she still showed respect to the two veteran Campiones.

"Just as I expected. Voban might be superior in the number of Divine Authorities in his arsenal, but Alec is the fastest Campione. If he decides to leave, no one can stop him."

Having anticipated the result, Ren wasn't surprised.

Itsuki, who had been listening all along, suddenly interrupted.

"Hubby, you haven't answered Ai-san's question about how someone can become a Campione."

She looked at Ren with a curious gaze, and Hayasaka beside her also showed the same expression.

Facing the curious gazes of the two women, Ren uttered a simple word: "Luck." fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

"Luck?" Itsuki and Hayasaka repeated simultaneously, exchanging bewildered glances.

They hadn't expected an abstract factor like luck to be the main reason someone could reach the pinnacle of power like a Campione.

"Listen, Itsuki-sensei, Ai. Humans cannot defeat Heretic Gods or Campiones, no matter how strong they are. Strength and ability are not irrelevant, but they are not very important in defeating a god. What matters is extraordinary luck. Strength has never been the deciding factor."

The ability to successfully kill gods and become a Campione basically depends on luck.

While recalling the entire process of becoming a Campione, Ren realized how accurate that statement was. If he hadn't been lucky enough to find a strand of Sun Wukong's hair, which he then used to transform into the Chains of Heaven, he would never have been able to temporarily bind the Heretic God. And if the Heretic God he encountered wasn't Hou Yi, who had a slight inclination towards humans and allowed himself to be killed as a form of appreciation for being trapped, but an aggressive and uncompromising Heretic God, he would most likely be dead instead of becoming a Campione.

"..."

Itsuki fell silent, trying to digest Ren's explanation.

Compared to Itsuki, whose knowledge of Campione's power was still limited, Hayasaka, who had directly witnessed the power of five Campiones that were like natural disasters, found it difficult to believe that they reached the pinnacle of humanity solely due to luck.

"After seeing the power of the Kings firsthand, it's hard to believe that luck is the only factor."

Of course, Hayasaka didn't doubt the truth of Ren's words. It was just that her common sense struggled to accept the fact that mere luck transformed ordinary people into figures at the apex of humanity.

Ren nodded, understanding her doubts.

"I understand your doubts, Ai. But listen to this. In fact, before becoming Campiones, the majority of us were not prominent fighters or mages. Godou Kusanagi and I were just ordinary high school students. Madam Aisha was a maid. Doni was an idiot savant. Voban was an ordinary hunter in the 18th century. Alec was an archaeologist. Only John Pluto Smith and Luo Hao were truly mages or had strong martial arts backgrounds before becoming Campiones."

"John Pluto Smith was a mage with a certain reputation, and Luo Hao was someone whose strength was comparable to a Paladin before she killed a god. Again, it's not a matter of strength."

Ren recounted the history of each Campione to the two girls in front of him.
