Chapter 443: Chapter 444: Refreshing! I Have A Thousand Ways to Deal With You

"Nothing has happened between us." King Jingyao stepped forward, his expression growing even gentler. "Dr. Jiang is a smart woman. She knows what can be said and what cannot, doesn’t she?"

He lightly patted her cheek, a gentle smile in his eyes.

However, Jiang Chaoge trembled all over, a flicker of fear in her eyes.

King Jingyao smiled again and, without dwelling on it further, walked out directly.

As the door opened, his secretary said respectfully from the entrance, "You have a call, sir."

King Jingyao took the phone, spoke a few words in a low voice, then walked away.

Jiang Chaoge watched helplessly as the lofty man walked out of her world, like water flowing by without a trace...

It was all over before anything could even begin between them.

She understood in her heart: King Jingyao had indeed considered making her his partner, but all of that was shattered by Gu Anxi’s appearance.

Jiang Chaoge covered her face. Could it be? Am I really not as good as Gu Anxi? She truly didn’t want to believe it, not one bit.

However, her unwillingness to believe it changed nothing. She faced not only King Jingyao’s abandonment but also Jiang Bin’s fury...

Listening to Jiang Bin’s reprimanding voice, Jiang Chaoge felt somewhat dazed. What am I doing? Why am I here?

She looked up, her voice soft yet firm. "Uncle, I want to go back to France."

Jiang Bin was stunned. "What?"

"I want to go back to France." Jiang Chaoge lowered her gaze. "This place isn’t for me."

She needed to heal, she thought.

Jiang Bin was still taken aback. After a long moment, he said, "You want to leave after such a small setback?"

Jiang Chaoge managed a wry smile. "I’ve been competing with others since I was young. This is the first time I’ve lost so miserably. Uncle, I’ve made up my mind."

Jiang Bin found it hard to scold her further. He thought about how much Chaoge had lost, suffering one blow after another.

He sighed. "Alright then! You can come back whenever you want."

Jiang Chaoge knew very well in her heart that Jiang Bin was willing to let her go... mainly because she no longer held much value for him.

A sense of desolation washed over her as she silently packed her things.

When she decided to leave, she wanted to see King Jingyao. After all, she... had developed some feelings for him.

But when she called his secretary’s office, they kept saying he was busy, and then stated directly that Mr. King did not particularly want to see her.

Jiang Chaoge slowly put down the phone, a faint smile playing on her lips as she lowered her head.

So, she was the only one who had taken it seriously.

She was leaving Beicheng. She bid farewell to no one; the only person she met, surprisingly, was Gu Anxi.

They didn’t meet anywhere else, just at a coffee shop downstairs from the hospital. Jiang Chaoge held a cup of coffee, waiting quietly.

When Gu Anxi arrived, she looked slightly weary. "What’s up?"

Jiang Chaoge watched her sit down and forced a smile. "What would you like to drink?"

Gu Anxi shook her head. "I don’t really feel like drinking anything. If you have something to say, just say it."

Jiang Chaoge spoke with bitterness, "Actually, I don’t really know what I want to say, or why I even wanted to see you... Gu Anxi, I’m going back to France."

"That’s good," Gu Anxi said with a faint smile.

Jiang Chaoge was stunned. "Aren’t you gloating?"

Gu Anxi looked completely bewildered. "Gloating about what? About operating on Old Wang? He was a patient of Yunxi Hospital to begin with, alright? Your Jiang Family’s meddling nearly cost Old Wang his life... Jiang Chaoge, you should be thankful for that little ambiguous affair you had with King Jingyao. Otherwise, you’d be facing much more than just returning to France today."

Jiang Chaoge was utterly dumbfounded. "You knew?"

"Even an idiot could see that, couldn’t they?" Gu Anxi pulled two photos from her pocket. "Dr. Jiang, if I wanted to deal with you, I have a thousand methods more despicable than yours. Fortunately for you, I’m beautiful and kind-hearted, so I won’t stoop to your level."

As Gu Anxi laid the photos down, Jiang Chaoge froze.

One was with Jack, quite risqué.

The other was a picture of King Jingyao embracing her in her office...

She felt a wave of embarrassment.

Gu Anxi leaned back. "What I want to tell you is this: never use your body to obtain something. You will always end up disappointed."

Jiang Chaoge tore the photos to shreds and looked at Gu Anxi quietly. "I suppose you’ve secured the WK collaboration by now!"

"Yes." Gu Anxi smiled. "The world is just unfair like that. Some people can strive endlessly and still not get what they want. There’s something called talent."

Jiang Chaoge was genuinely angry. "Gu Anxi, do you know what? I really, really dislike you."

"Me too!" Gu Anxi chuckled. "I used to think you were so infatuated with my Little Uncle. Turns out, you’re just a crybaby who wants the best of everything! If you had been more devoted, I might have actually respected you a little. But now..."

She stood up. "I never considered you a rival. Truly. Gu Mingzhu is far more intelligent than you, and quite assertive. You’re merely a pawn for others."

Jiang Chaoge wanted to say more, but Gu Anxi had already left.

She watched that young figure depart, then looked at the shredded photos, experiencing Gu Anxi’s formidable nature for the first time.

「...」

Gu Anxi didn’t return to Si Garden that day. She informed Father Bo and Mother Bo that she would need to stay and watch over Old Wang for a night or two, as his condition wasn’t very stable.

Bo Nianyao naturally expressed his concern. After hanging up the phone, he said to Mrs. Bo, "See? Our girl has outshone the Jiang family’s Dr. Jiang once again."

Mrs. Bo chuckled. "Indeed. Now all of Beicheng knows the Jiang family couldn’t perform this surgery. They had to beg our girl to do it. Isn’t she admired by everyone now?"

Bo Nianyao wasn’t without worry. "Being too prominent isn’t always a good thing! But our girl is clever."

At this, Mrs. Bo’s face lit up. "I heard too. They say the Old Madam is very fond of Anxi and wants to recognize her as a goddaughter."

Bo Nianyao looked at his wife and smiled. "I’m afraid the Old Madam might have other intentions."

Mrs. Bo gently placed her hand on her husband’s. "Nianyao, you don’t need to worry too much. When has Anxi ever truly given us cause for concern?"

"True." Bo Nianyao chuckled, then joked with his wife, "With Xichen away, Bo Jin out again, and our girl not home for the night, the house feels strangely empty."

Mrs. Bo also sighed. "Tell me about it!"

「...」

「Late that night.」

「Jiang Family Hospital.」

Old Mrs. Wang, due to her age, had gone to rest in a smaller room.

Old Wang had not yet awakened. Gu Anxi was keeping watch, leaning against the sofa. She had been reading a magazine, but by one in the morning, she couldn’t fight off her drowsiness any longer and had fallen asleep, her head resting on the armrest.

King Jingyao pushed open the door to see Gu Anxi asleep on the sofa, her face nestled in the crook of her arm. Her dark hair partially veiled the side of her face, revealing the elegant line of her nose.

He watched her quietly. When his secretary beside him started to speak, King Jingyao raised a hand to stop him. "Bring a small blanket."

The secretary paused for a moment, surprised, then immediately hurried off to fetch a small woolen blanket...
