Campus Ace Girl-Chapter 473 - 474: Chu Yan is not the child of the Chu Family
The moment their eyes met, Shen Congwen was somewhat shocked, causing him to halt his steps for a moment.
Zhou Yunchen was just as surprised, narrowing his eyes slightly as he looked at him.
Then, he just smiled.
Gu Anxi asked in a low voice, "What’s going on? Is she Shen Congwen’s girlfriend?"
Zhou Yunchen’s expression was placid as he responded, "Perhaps."
As Shen Congwen passed by, Zhou Yunchen did not look up or pause, speaking naturally to Gu Anxi about business as usual.
Shen Congwen paused momentarily. "Director Gu, Director Zhou."
Gu Anxi smiled. "Would you like to join us for a meal?"
Shen Congwen smiled. "No need, you two carry on with your conversation."
Gu Anxi glanced at the girl standing next to him. "Your girlfriend, aren’t you going to introduce her?"
Shen Congwen seemed slightly uncomfortable. After a moment, he finally whispered, "Just a friend." Then, as if he didn’t want to chat anymore, he moved to another table.
From start to finish, Zhou Yunchen did not say a word to him or ask any questions. Shen Congwen’s gaze rested on him for a few seconds, but he also said nothing.
After they left, Gu Anxi was delicately eating her food, her small mouth stuffed full. "Weren’t you a little cold? I remember you two were good friends."
"Not really, we’re just acquaintances," Zhou Yunchen replied.
Gu Anxi said, "Oh. So, just acquaintances, huh? I thought..."
Zhou Yunchen glanced at her sharply.
Gu Anxi just smiled and didn’t say anything else.
They spent about another half an hour eating, finished discussing their business, and then got up and left.
Gu Anxi went over to greet Shen Congwen, who got up and chatted with her but didn’t even glance at Zhou Yunchen.
Gu Anxi found it amusing. Shen Congwen and Zhou Yunchen were closer, yet she had somehow become the intermediary.
However, she didn’t mention anything.
Zhou Yunchen said he would drop her off, but Bo Xichen came to get her, so he ended up sitting alone in his car, smoking.
The car window was open, and he leisurely blew smoke rings, seemingly in no hurry to leave.
After about five or six cigarettes, Shen Congwen left the restaurant with his female companion. As he passed Zhou Yunchen’s car, he turned his head to look.
Zhou Yunchen was still smoking, his posture incredibly handsome.
Shen Congwen opened his car door for his female companion to get in, then got in himself. Before starting the car, he couldn’t help but glance again at Zhou Yunchen.
The man was still there, leisurely smoking, seemingly oblivious.
He lowered his gaze, started the car, and drove off. He dropped his female companion at her home and then drove back to his own.
After parking his car and unbuckling his seatbelt, he took out his phone and looked.
No calls, not a single WeChat message.
Shen Congwen stared at his phone for a few seconds, then suddenly opened his car door and went into the elevator.
For many days after, he heard nothing from Zhou Yunchen, nor did he try to contact him.
Later, they would inevitably meet at certain events, and both would address each other very politely: "Director Zhou!" "Vice Director Shen!"
As if they truly had only ever been mere acquaintances!
While they grew distant, Gu Anxi and Chen Ming became closer. Chen Ming would occasionally invite Gu Anxi to the shooting range. He was still a bit concerned, of course, since Gu Anxi had a boyfriend.
Bo Xichen didn’t seem to mind much. Sometimes, he would even come from the hospital to pick Gu Anxi up when they finished, and occasionally the three of them would eat together. Gradually, Chen Ming also relaxed.
One day, Old Lin organized an outing, inviting a group of respected elders for a short vacation. Chen Ming and Gu Anxi both attended, accompanying the elders to play golf.
Old Lin swung his golf club and chuckled. "Chen Ming, you seem a bit preoccupied today."
Chen Ming gave a wry smile. "You noticed too, Old Lin."
He paused. "We’d just found some faint traces of ’Infinite,’ but now he seems to have disappeared again."
Old Lin smiled knowingly. "The International Falcon Team has no leads either, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself."
He swung his club gently. "Given enough time, a fox can’t hide its tail forever."
Chen Ming respectfully agreed.
Gu Anxi was listening nearby. Old Lin handed his golf club to someone else and turned to her with a smile. "This Infinite is a nasty piece of work, Dark’s top enforcer."
Gu Anxi was speechless.
After a moment, she scratched her head. "What bad things has *she* done, exactly?"
"His very existence is a public threat!" Chen Ming said gravely.
Gu Anxi gave a dry laugh. "Is that so!"
Chen Ming’s expression softened slightly. "He’ll be caught one day."
Gu Anxi was rather speechless.
When they returned to Si Garden, she was a little listless, draping her whole body over Bo Xichen’s back.
"What’s wrong?" Bo Xichen chuckled, asking the girl on his back.
Gu Anxi hugged his neck, looking a bit dejected. "Uncle, are you going to arrest me? So many people want to arrest me."
He chuckled. "Then will you be caught?"
"Of course not," she said with a cute, confident air. "They’re not capable enough."
Bo Xichen smiled faintly, reaching out to pull the little girl from his back to face him. "And what about me? Haven’t I already caught you?"
The little charmer nestled against his chest, murmuring very softly, "Uncle is the best!"
He smiled tenderly, gently stroking her hair as if soothing a little kitten.
The little charmer was thoroughly enjoying it.
Just as she was basking in the moment, a low, husky voice came from above, "It’s getting late."
She murmured an "Oh" but didn’t move, her small hand toying with his button.
He chuckled, leaning in and being gentle with her...
The next day, Gu Anxi went to Beicheng University with dark circles under her eyes, only to find Chu Yan was back.
She slung an arm around Chu Yan’s shoulder. "So, you finally decided to come back, huh?"
Chu Yan hummed. "Missed you, so I came back."
Gu Anxi gave her a sidelong glance. "Yeah, right!"
She didn’t believe that for a second!
Chu Yan then launched into a flurry of sweet talk and over-the-top compliments before Gu Anxi grudgingly "forgave" her.
At lunchtime, the four of them—Gu Anxi, Chu Yan, Wang Qin, and Fang Ming—ate together. After the meal, Fang Ming whisked Wang Qin off to the little grove, while Gu Anxi and Chu Yan strolled leisurely behind.
Chu Yan hadn’t been at Beicheng University for this period, so seeing Fang Ming and Wang Qin so close with her own eyes completely astonished her.
Gu Anxi pulled her to sit on a bench and bask in the sun, while Chu Yan kept stealing glances at what the other two were up to.
Gu Anxi coughed lightly. "Hasn’t Chu Ci taught you anything?"
Gu Anxi just smiled and said nothing more. When the time is right, Chu Ci will confess, naturally.
After they sat in comfortable silence for a while, Gu Anxi said, "I’m doing a voice-over project with Chu Ci in July."
She and Chu Ci were doing the Chinese dubbing, while Disney had invited her uncle for the original English voice-over. Things were indeed going to be very busy.
Hearing this, Chu Yan just said, "Oh."
Gu Anxi looked at her, then couldn’t help but gently pat her hair. "Yan Yan, what’s wrong?"
Chu Yan bit her lip, then suddenly said, "Anxi, I... I’m not a child of the Chu Family."
