Chapter 503: Chapter 504: Zhou Yunchen, If You’re Bored, You Could Get a Girlfriend

After she finished speaking, Tang Yuan just looked at her.

Even Gu Yuanshan was silent for a long time, finally speaking, "Mingzhu, regarding Congwen, you yourself don’t have that intention, so you better not provoke him. Congwen is still a very good assistant. I don’t want to lose such a capable assistant over personal matters."

He paused for a moment. "Lately, he and Zhou Yunchen have become quite close. I heard that Zhou Yunchen has already moved into the apartment below his. If you cause any more trouble at this critical juncture... he might genuinely leave Gu’s just to avoid suspicion."

Upon hearing this, Gu Mingzhu frowned, asking quietly, "Is Zhou Yunchen trying to poach him?"

Gu Yuanshan sat there, his face slightly sullen, remaining silent.

These were things he wouldn’t discuss with women.

Shen Congwen had worked for him for many years and had always been very capable. Gu Yuanshan had always managed him well—

Without him, Congwen had no future. But now, with Zhou Yunchen in the picture—and someone from Anxi at that—if Congwen truly defected to him, Gu Yuanshan would genuinely be powerless against him.

Gu Yuanshan was in a bind, so retaining Shen Congwen was his best option.

Shen Congwen knew too many of his secrets.

「...」

Shen Congwen drove his car, bought a meal from a restaurant, and prepared to eat it at home. He used to have a housekeeper, but ever since Zhou Yunchen moved downstairs, the housekeeper had been... "notified" to take a vacation. Left with no choice, he had to buy his own food to eat at home.

Half an hour later, Shen Congwen opened the door and sat down alone in silence. Just as he was about to open the takeout container, the door opened.

He looked over and saw Zhou Yunchen.

Shen Congwen frowned slightly. "Give me back my key."

Zhou Yunchen chuckled. "Isn’t our friendship worth at least a shared key? You’re breaking my heart."

With that, he handed over a key—not to Shen Congwen’s apartment, but to his own.

Not only did he give him the key, but he also whispered, "You can come over anytime, hmm?"

Shen Congwen choked and glared at him. "Zhou Yunchen, have you no shame?" He spoke so ambiguously, as if their relationship was very close.

Zhou Yunchen chuckled lightly, poured Shen Congwen a glass of water, and casually tossed the takeout into the trash.

Shen Congwen was angry. "That was my dinner."

Zhou Yunchen leaned down, very close to him. "I’ll cook for you."

Shen Congwen pursed his lips. "You’re not my housemaid."

"If you need me to be, I can." He teased him, then headed to the kitchen. The fridge was filled with various ingredients he had bought earlier.

For the past week, he had also come over every evening after work to cook. Then he would find excuses to stay until around ten at night before leaving. In between, he would just watch TV, occasionally take a call... and nothing more.

As Shen Congwen sat on the sofa watching TV, he felt a little uneasy. He couldn’t shake the feeling that Zhou Yunchen knew some of his secrets. But that wasn’t quite right... Zhou Yunchen couldn’t possibly know.

Listening to the faint sounds from the kitchen, he glanced over—

Zhou Yunchen was wearing a grey shirt and dark casual pants, looking very relaxed as he handled the ingredients, as naturally as if he were in his own home.

Shen Congwen wanted to smoke, but just as he took out a cigarette, Zhou Yunchen walked out of the kitchen with a glass of milk.

He placed the milk in front of Shen Congwen and took the cigarette from his fingers. "Quit smoking."

Shen Congwen looked up at him, and Zhou Yunchen met his gaze.

"Why?" Shen Congwen’s tone was somewhat cold. "Zhou Yunchen, are you too idle? If you’re really that bored, you should find a girlfriend, get married, and have some kids."

Zhou Yunchen leaned down, his eyes gazing deeply at the person before him. After a long moment, he spoke in a low, husky voice, "You want me to marry another woman and have children with her?"

Shen Congwen leaned back and turned his face away. "You’re in your thirties, aren’t you?"

"You’re not young either. Why don’t you find a woman and get married?" Zhou Yunchen asked, a ghost of a smile on his lips, but his eyes held no amusement.

When Shen Congwen turned his head and saw his expression, his heart skipped a beat. His throat felt dry as he spoke. "I haven’t found the right one."

"Neither have I," Zhou Yunchen replied quickly, his gaze locking onto Shen Congwen. He smiled faintly. "So, isn’t it good like this?"

Shen Congwen frowned. "I don’t see what’s good about it."

He paused. "I can’t even smoke anymore. How is that good?"

Zhou Yunchen’s gaze warmed slightly, but he said nothing—

He couldn’t very well say that girls shouldn’t smoke, could he?

He stood up and smiled. "I’ll go cook."

Shen Congwen called out to him, "Hey."

He stopped and turned around.

Shen Congwen’s voice was very soft. "Zhou Yunchen, you’re not planning to come over and cook for me every day, are you?"

The corners of Zhou Yunchen’s mouth curved slightly. "If you want, I can come every day. Not just to cook, I can do other things too..."

The color drained slightly from Shen Congwen’s face.

Zhou Yunchen chimed in at the right moment, "I can help you clean, have tea with you... By the way, Congwen, you must get pretty lonely living by yourself, right?"

Shen Congwen saw the teasing in his eyes and gritted his teeth. "I’m not lonely at all."

Zhou Yunchen laughed lightly. "You say one thing but mean another."

If he weren’t lonely, why would he allow him to keep coming over day after day, encroaching on his world like this?

This time, when Zhou Yunchen went into the kitchen, he didn’t come out again. Shen Congwen’s gaze occasionally flickered to the busy figure in the kitchen, his attention only half on the TV.

Zhou Yunchen was a very good cook. Within half an hour, he had prepared two dishes and a soup, all of which looked quite appetizing.

The two ate in silence, neither saying a word. The atmosphere was a little strange.

When they finished eating and it was time to clear the dishes, Zhou Yunchen stopped Shen Congwen. "I’ll do it."

Shen Congwen was stubborn. "I can do it."

Zhou Yunchen suddenly laughed. "Fine, you do it."

He then added, "A pampered young master like you, since childhood—can you even handle this?"

Shen Congwen ignored him, clumsily gathering the dishes and taking them to the kitchen... He still sneaked a cigarette. He wasn’t particularly addicted, just used to having two or three a day.

He didn’t see anything wrong with it. He was just... like this. He wouldn’t change just because a man suddenly intruded into his life. After a while, Zhou Yunchen would probably get bored and leave!

Shen Congwen stood by the window, quietly smoking. The night breeze blew in, ruffling his short hair. He wore a beige shirt with two buttons undone.

He was very thin, his face small and fair, making him look almost like a delicate figurine.

Zhou Yunchen came over and saw him smoking, frowning. "Didn’t I tell you not to smoke?"

Shen Congwen took another provocative puff, slowly exhaling a smoke ring. He had lived as a man for all these years, so it felt completely natural.
