Chapter 505: Chapter 506: I’m Just an Ordinary Love Genius

Shen Congwen finally lost his composure. "Zhou Yunchen! Don’t you think you’re going too far?"

"How am I going too far?" Zhou Yunchen leaned in, his voice low. "Tell me, where have I been excessive? I’ve been wholeheartedly concerned about you, cooked for you, washed your clothes, even worried about your emotional life. With all this care, for both body and mind... Congwen, doesn’t this move you even in the slightest?"

He paused, then chuckled softly. "If I’d been this good to young women, I’d probably have eight or ten of them chasing after me by now."

Shen Congwen was so flustered by his teasing that he couldn’t utter a single word. He was no match for Zhou Yunchen, which made the situation even more awkward.

Zhou Yunchen, however, seemed unfazed. He picked up his coat and said casually, "Alright, I’m heading back."

Shen Congwen didn’t even look at him. Reaching the door and changing his shoes, Zhou Yunchen urged, "Take good care of yourself! If it’s too much, call the aunty to cook for you."

Shen Congwen clenched his fists but eventually said, "Thank you for cooking for me this entire week."

"There’s no need," Zhou Yunchen’s voice was cool. "Shen Congwen, do you think it’s your gratitude that I seek?"

He stared at him. "You’re clearly playing dumb when you know exactly what’s going on."

Shen Congwen just sat there, silently watching him.

Zhou Yunchen gritted his fine, white teeth. No matter how tough this nut is to crack, I’m damn well going to crack it.

As Zhou Yunchen left, Shen Congwen took out a cigarette. With no one there to stop him, he smoked an entire cigarette to his heart’s content.

After finishing, the apartment felt particularly empty. He wanted to smoke another but decided against it.

Sitting on the sofa, his hand covering his eyes, he silently pondered Zhou Yunchen’s words.

He wasn’t a fool. He had an inkling of what Zhou Yunchen wanted: a confession. Zhou Yunchen knew all along, didn’t he? He wasn’t sure if his mother had told Zhou Yunchen, or if Zhou Yunchen had found out on his own... That wasn’t so important. What mattered was that he didn’t know how to respond. He was 175 cm tall, with a slender build. His demeanor, attire, and even his social relationships had always been from a man’s perspective. How could he... revert to being a woman? If he were to go out with Zhou Yunchen in the future, during introductions... He lacked the courage and the desire to present himself as a woman. After twenty-odd years, he felt this way was fine. Perhaps he had been moved when he was sick and cared for like that, but his mindset was genuinely different from those girls. He couldn’t imagine acting coy or snuggling in someone’s arms to watch TV; he had been raised entirely by male standards.

Shen Congwen heaved a long sigh and said nothing, just quietly let himself be enveloped by the silent night.

Lonely? Not really. He was just used to it. He was fine on his own; there was no need to drag someone else down with him into misery.

And yet—

He gently touched his lips with his fingers, his face feeling somewhat hot.

Early the next morning, Zhou Yunchen drove to An Pu. As he walked into the imposing general manager’s office, his secretary smiled. "Good morning, President Zhou."

Zhou Yunchen offered a faint smile. "Morning."

Several secretaries’ eyes sparkled. Zhou Yunchen stepped back slightly. "What’s with those expressions?"

The second secretary was pushed forward. Grinning, she asked, "President Gu said you have a girlfriend now, a very beautiful girl at that?"

The unspoken message was clear: they were angling for a celebratory treat.

Zhou Yunchen put down his briefcase, dumbfounded. "President Gu said that?"

The secretaries were all laughing. The second secretary boldly added, "President Gu also said it’s like seeing an iron tree blossom with you!"

Zhou Yunchen chuckled. "Does she have nothing better to do at work than gossip about me?" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

With that, he walked straight into his office while the secretaries whispered behind him. Then, Zhou Yunchen turned back and piled a mountain of work on them.

The secretaries, being astute, quickly realized President Zhou hadn’t succeeded in wooing his girlfriend.

They guessed right. President Zhou was clearly in a terrible mood. He tossed his briefcase onto the sofa and snapped at Gu Anxi, who was engrossed in a game, "Hey! There’s a pile of work waiting for you, and you’re still busy playing games!"

Gu Anxi was in the middle of a team game. Multitasking, she taunted, "Zhou Yunchen, I just knew you were starting to find me annoying. Jealous that I’m young and successful, jealous that I found a perfect relationship so easily."

Zhou Yunchen’s face contorted with jealousy. "That’s right! I’m jealous that you and Dr. Bo are already like an old married couple at such a young age!"

He shot her a disdainful look as he spoke.

Gu Anxi bristled instantly. "Heh, President Zhou, you wouldn’t understand the kind of fun we have."

Zhou Yunchen snorted lightly. "Oh, really? I find that hard to believe."

His words carried a hint of probing.

He, Zhou Yunchen, had genuinely never had a girlfriend. There were fleeting flirtations in the business world, sure, but he’d never had a serious relationship with a woman who was good wife material. This kind of feeling... he’d only had the briefest taste of it.

Gu Anxi stared at him, then put down her phone. "Hey, are you going to give up just because you hit one snag?"
