Chapter 521: Chapter 522: Old Brother Wang is acting aloof again

Gu Anxi listened, somewhat dumbfounded. She carefully recalled that Bo Qing did indeed resemble the Bo family members.

She asked softly, "Isn’t he?"

"Of course not." Bo Nianyao sighed lightly. "He’s the son of the Old Master’s father from an affair."

Gu Anxi counted on her fingers—

A child born to the Old Master’s father... wouldn’t that make him the same generation as the Old Master? That means he’s a generation above Father Bo, placing him in the generation Bo Xichen would call ’Grandfather’!

The little darling was stunned. It took her a while to ask, "How old was the Old Master’s father when he had Bo Qing?"

Bo Nianyao gave an awkward smile and coughed lightly. "Children shouldn’t pry into such matters."

Gu Anxi was very interested in this. "But I am! It has significant reference value."

She quietly calculated in her head: Bo Xichen was 29. His grandfather was at least 80, and his grandfather’s father would be at least 100. Yet Bo Qing was not even 40!

The little darling was once again dumbfounded: That old gentleman was truly vigorous for his age!

Regarding this family scandal, Bo Nianyao didn’t want to discuss it further and changed the subject. "He will make a comeback."

As far as he knew, Dark had a powerful backer, who was King Jingyao’s biggest rival—

Min Xin.

But these days, King Jingyao had the upper hand, firmly keeping that deputy of his in check.

This was one of the reasons the Bo family couldn’t afford to fall out with King Jingyao. Compared to Min Xin, King Jingyao was more upright, which was why they permitted Gu Anxi to associate with him.

As they spoke of these matters, the atmosphere grew somewhat somber, especially for Bo Nianyao.

Regardless of Bo Qing’s actions, he had grown up by Bo Nianyao’s side since childhood. Thinking about it now, it was somewhat disappointing and hard to let go, despite the many wrongs Bo Qing had committed.

Bo Nianyao wasn’t in a good mood. He gently stroked Gu Anxi’s small head and said nothing.

Gu Anxi didn’t speak either. Everyone seemed to be in low spirits... yet they knew everything would be different after tonight.

After a while, to cheer Bo Nianyao up, Gu Anxi said softly, "Father Bo, aren’t you going to look at the painting? My Old Brother’s birthday is in two days. If you don’t see it now, you’ll miss your chance."

Bo Nianyao rallied his spirits. "Alright, let’s see the painting."

As for future matters, they would plan later!

The atmosphere became lively again, and they chatted until past ten o’clock before Bo Xichen took Gu Anxi back to the Orchid Room. They all had things on their minds, so they just leaned against each other quietly, occasionally exchanging a few words.

Gu Anxi didn’t sleep well that night and woke up early the next morning with slightly swollen eyes. As Bo Xichen got up and was tying his tie, he remarked calmly, "If you didn’t sleep well, don’t go to the company today."

Gu Anxi shook her head. "Absolutely not!"

Bo Xichen smiled. "You’re quite career-minded."

She wrapped her arms around his neck. "I have to emulate Professor Bo."

He patted her. "I wonder where this professor of yours even ranks."

She exclaimed, "But to me, you’re the most important!"

Professor Bo was visibly pleased. He lowered his head, cupping her small face—

"Wait a minute, I haven’t brushed my teeth yet!" She jumped down and dashed towards the bathroom. "Don’t go! I’m going to brush my teeth first. You absolutely must not leave!"

Bo Xichen chuckled, quite helpless when it came to her. While she washed her face and brushed her teeth, he sat reading a magazine. When Gu Anxi came out, she found him still sitting there.

"I’m ready!" She walked over, hands behind her back, and then wrapped her arms around his neck. "I have a gift for you."

Bo Xichen, still seated, smiled faintly. "What gift?"

Gu Anxi hugged him with one arm and, with the other, produced a small bottle. "A globally unique fragrance: XC Perfume."

Bo Xichen knew she had been developing a series of perfumes lately, but he hadn’t expected her to create one specifically for him. Touched and curious, he took the bottle. "Let me smell it."

He didn’t usually wear perfume, but he found himself inexplicably drawn to this scent.

A very serene scent.

"Doesn’t it smell wonderful?" She pressed her cheek against his and whispered, "It has another name."

Bo Xichen asked, "Oh? What is it?"

Gu Anxi leaned against him and whispered, "The Scent of Young Uncle."

Bo Xichen looked at her. "Serious?"

She hummed affirmatively, leaning against him, and whispered, "Well, that’s what I think Young Uncle smells like."

Bo Xichen smiled faintly and stroked her small head. "I like it very much."

She gave a delighted squeal, suddenly feeling a bit shy. They shared an affectionate moment for a while longer before heading out, both their expressions content.

Gu Anxi drove herself to the Cloud He Group, bringing her painting with her. As soon as she arrived, she had Secretary Tang personally deliver the painting to King Jingyao’s office.

The painting was worth tens of millions, so Secretary Tang was extremely careful. He used the company’s best car and assigned four security personnel, ensuring a grand and formal delivery.

In his office, King Jingyao was working when his Secretary General hurried in. "Miss Gu has sent a gift."

"Which Miss Gu? Jingchuan, be specific. Don’t tell me it’s Mingzhu again. If it’s her, just say I’m not here," King Jingyao said bluntly.

The Secretary General said joyfully, "It’s not her, it’s not her."

A mysterious and joyful expression appeared on his face. "It’s our Miss Anxi! She specially sent you a painting. Haven’t you always admired Luo Lin’s works? Well, she’s sent one to you now."

King Jingyao was genuinely taken aback for a moment, then chuckled. "So she actually remembered to honor me!"

He paused for a moment before continuing, "I do admire Luo Lin’s works, but most of the existing pieces are with the Bo family. It’s finally my turn. How rare."

The Secretary General seized the opportunity to flatter him. "Of course, Miss Anxi has you in her thoughts. See? She spent several days creating a painting she poured her heart into and had it delivered."

King Jingyao told them to bring it over quickly. He was, however, a little disappointed; that little brat had time for games but couldn’t deliver the painting in person!

The Secretary General went out and soon returned with Secretary Tang. The painting was carefully packaged. King Jingyao, feeling a bit like an excited young boy unwrapping a beloved toy, began to open it layer by layer.

Over the years, he had received countless precious gifts, but this was the first time he’d received something truly to his liking. He felt genuinely thrilled.

When he finally unwrapped it, he looked at the abstract portrait in the painting, and his heart stirred.

It was a painting of him. Though it wasn’t a perfect likeness, it was undeniably him.

This little brat, she really knows how to tug at an old brother’s heartstrings!

King Jingyao gazed at it for a long moment before looking up at Secretary Tang. "Go back and tell your Young Miss Gu that I thank her."

Secretary Tang replied respectfully, "Very good, Mr. Wang. I’ll take my leave then."

King Jingyao gave his Secretary General a meaningful look, which the latter understood. The Secretary General personally escorted Secretary Tang out.

When the Secretary General returned, he found King Jingyao sitting there, silently gazing at the painting. The Secretary General stood beside him, hardly daring to breathe.

King Jingyao continued to look at the painting and asked softly, "Jingchuan, do you know why I value her so much?"
