Chapter 583: Chapter 584: Yuyu, did you take your medicine?

Min Xin’s gaze was fixed on Zhou Yu, unblinking. π•—π•£πžπžπ˜„πžπš‹πš—π—Όπ˜ƒπ—²π—Ή.πšŒπ• πš–

Zhou Yu also looked surprised, standing there for a while without moving. She lowered her head, revealing a stretch of her slender, pale neck.

Min Xin involuntarily swallowed, his voice hoarse. "Why are you here?"

King Jingyao said, "Well, Zhou Yu has the day off today, and we agreed to have a meal together."

Min Xin’s gaze shifted to King Jingyao. "You two..."

King Jingyao chuckled and patted his shoulder. "Don’t overthink it, Min. Zhou Yu and I go way back. It was just that our respective statuses made it difficult to be close before. But now that we’re both single, there’s no one to gossip. How about this? Let’s all go and eat together."

Min Xin clenched his pearly white teeth. "I’m afraid I won’t be welcome!"

"How could that be!" King Jingyao retorted, his expression as pleasant as a spring breeze. "We’re all old acquaintances here; why would there be any question of being welcome or not?"

Min Xin looked at Zhou Yu again.

Zhou Yu couldn’t bear it any longer and softly suggested, "Let’s all go together then!"

Min Xin stared at her and softly uttered a single word, "Okay."

As the three of them walked out together, Min Xin’s secretary looked somewhat alarmed. "Sir, can your body handle this kind of exertion?"

"It’s just a meal," Min Xin replied coldly. "You don’t need to come."

The secretary watched his retreating figure and sighed. What’s the point of all this suffering!

In the car, the three adults were crammed into the back seat, with Zhou Yu in the middle. She caught a faint medicinal scent from Min Xin and asked lightly, "You... are you fully recovered?"

Min Xin responded in a deep voice, "More or less."

She figured he’d returned to work so quickly out of fear his power would be usurped.

So she remained silent.

Min Xin had some questions he wanted to ask her, but with King Jingyao sitting right there, he found it difficult to speak. The three of them endured an awkward silence all the way to the restaurant.

During the meal, King Jingyao was extremely attentive towards Zhou Yu. Noticing the air conditioning was too low, he draped his jacket over her shoulders. When he saw she couldn’t eat spicy food, he ordered a dessert for her, remarking indulgently that it was the kind of thing girls liked most.

Min Xin barely ate, holding a cup of chrysanthemum tea and silently watching the pair.

Zhou Yu, clearly feeling awkward, said quietly, "That’s not necessary, Jingyao. I don’t eat cold things."

Ever considerate, King Jingyao asked, "Feeling unwell?"

He chuckled. "Women always have a few tough days each month. Let me have someone send over some peach gum for you. It’s very nourishing."

Zhou Yu’s face flushed. "It’s not like that."

Meanwhile, Min Xin’s heart skipped a beat.

He remembered Zhou Yu’s cycle. She usually paid no mind to such things, but he always calculated it meticulously. According to his calculations, this should be when she had her period. But she’d said no. He glanced at her clothes againβ€”light-colored, definitely not what she’d wear during her ’special days.’ His hands clenched. Had she... forgotten? She absolutely should know! What if...?

Min Xin’s gaze remained fixed on her, a complex mix of emotions in his eyes.

Zhou Yu felt frightened by his stare and lowered her head, once again revealing that lovely stretch of her neck.

Not a drop of composure left! Min Xin thought.

King Jingyao watched them, somewhat amused.

One might say Zhou Yu had no feelings left for Min Xin; indeed, she seemed to have completely given up on him over the years. But if any man could rekindle those feelings, it would have to be that jerk, Min Xin.

He too was holding a cup of tea, sipping it lightly, a faint bitterness welling in his heart.

Later, the Secretary-General came over and asked King Jingyao to step downstairs for a moment, mentioning there was something important to discuss.

King Jingyao turned his head and said gently, "I’ll be right back," then hurriedly left.

Only the two of them remained in the private room. Zhou Yu felt a bit awkward and took small sips of her tea.

Min Xin watched her quietly. "You..."

He silently gathered his thoughts before asking, "That... um... has it not come yet?"

Zhou Yu looked a bit surprised, then her face reddened slightly as she lowered her head. "Not yet."

Min Xin’s heart sank. He didn’t want a child right now, especially when he was already thinking of letting her go.

He asked in a low voice, "Why hasn’t it come?"

Zhou Yu looked uncomfortable. "Well... sometimes it’s not very regular. It might even be two months between them."

Min Xin knew this. It was probably his fault; Zhou Yu’s health had never been robust, and her periods were often delayed by many days, quite irregular.

He breathed a sigh of relief. After a moment’s thought, he asked again, "Did you... take the pill?"

Zhou Yu looked at him in surprise.

Then, she lied, "I did."

"Really?" Min Xin asked again.

She murmured an affirmative. "I did."

Min Xin believed she wouldn’t lie to him, so he finally relaxed completely. Because they rarely had moments alone together, and he hadn’t seen her in so long, the atmosphere grew somewhat... charged.

Just then, a waitress came over with a blueberry dessert. "Miss Zhou, here is the dessert you ordered."

Zhou Yu smiled faintly. "Thank you."

Her smile was beautiful; even the waitress couldn’t help stealing a few extra glances, to say nothing of a single, divorced man like Min Xin, who had always been captivated by her.

After the waitress left, Zhou Yu, probably trying to ease the atmosphere, kept taking small bites of her dessert. She had clearly been well-cherished; at her age, she still seemed like a little fairy, possessing a noble grace intertwined with girlish qualities.

Min Xin watched her eat in silence, his Adam’s apple bobbing. "Is it good?"

"Mhm," she murmured, then silently continued eating.

For some reason, a thought surfaced, and her eyes grew misty, blurring her vision.

Min Xin moved the dessert from her hand. "What’s wrong?"

She tried to take it back, but he held it firm, his voice remarkably soft as he asked, "Why do you look like you’re about to cry? Isn’t this the life you wanted?"

His voice was gentle, but his words were tinged with acidity. "Going out whenever you please, dating any man you choose... why the tears now? Are you unhappy to see me?"

Zhou Yu softly said, "No."

He reached out to cup her chin, but she dodged. She tried to stand and leave, but he caught her from behind in an embrace. "Zhou Yu, do you still have feelings for me?"
