Campus Ace Girl-Chapter 645 - 646: Ignorant of the immensity of heaven and earth, was it Tang Yuan who taught you?
Zhou Yu hesitated again. "Is he okay?"
The head nurse smiled. "I’m not sure about the details. I only heard that he’s out of critical condition."
Zhou Yu pursed her lips, saying nothing.
The head nurse smiled faintly. "Miss Zhou, would you like to visit Mr. Min?"
Zhou Yu hesitated again. The head nurse added, "It’s quite pitiful. He has no family with him at all."
She looked at Zhou Yu, but Zhou Yu pretended to be engrossed in a magazine.
After a moment, Zhou Yu whispered, "I’ll go get some fresh air."
The head nurse nodded. "Alright. Let two nurses accompany you, as Mr. Wang instructed."
She glanced to the side, and two young nurses immediately followed. Zhou Yu felt somewhat uneasy once she was outside. "You don’t have to follow me."
The two young nurses said nothing and continued to follow.
Zhou Yu entered the elevator with the two young nurses following. One of them pressed the button for the 38th floor for her.
Zhou Yu was left speechless.
She stood in the elevator, watching the red numbers descend until they reached 38.
In the VIP ward, Min Xin was asleep, his eyebrows furrowed.
Wang Yuan and Gu Mingzhu were watching over him.
Wang Yuan looked up at Gu Mingzhu’s tear-stained eyes. "Miss Mingzhu, Mr. Min is fine."
There’s no need to cry so much, he thought.
Gu Mingzhu pressed her lips together, whispering, "But I’m still worried."
Wang Yuan patiently tried to console her. "The doctors are here. Why don’t you go home first?"
At this critical juncture, Gu Mingzhu refused to leave. "I’ll stay here and watch over him!"
Wang Yuan chuckled and didn’t press further. An astute man like him could easily see Gu Mingzhu’s intentions. She was hoping Mr. Min would acknowledge her, but how could that be possible? Mr. Min wasn’t someone who could be swayed by a few tears or sweet words; he was a tough man.
However, Wang Yuan still had to maintain appearances. He smiled faintly and said, "Then perhaps I should fetch some food for Miss Mingzhu. I imagine the hospital food won’t suit your palate."
He was just being polite; with his status, he could easily have delegated such a task. But Gu Mingzhu readily nodded. "Then I’ll have to trouble you, Mr. Secretary."
The secretary smiled and left.
Just as he stepped outside, he saw Zhou Yu approaching. He quietly closed the door and said respectfully, "Madam, what brings you here? Sir woke up for a little while earlier and asked about you. I told him you were doing well, and only then did he restfully go back to sleep."
Zhou Yu recalled what King Jingyao had said about something being "charred," and a wave of anxiety washed over her. She asked in a low voice, "How is he?"
Wang Yuan smiled. "He’s fine. The situation isn’t too serious."
Seeing the look in Zhou Yu’s eyes, he seemed to have a sudden realization. "Oh, right. You should go in and see him. Miss Gu Mingzhu is inside."
Wang Yuan opened the door for her to enter, then went to get food for Gu Mingzhu.
Zhou Yu wanted to refuse, but Wang Yuan had already left. Since the door was open, she had no choice but to go inside.
This was one of the few times Gu Mingzhu had seen Zhou Yu. Zhou Yu seemed much softer, yet she still carried herself with the same air of nobility as before. Even in the hospital, two nurses followed her closely.
Gu Mingzhu felt a surge of contempt. Why did such an idle woman, who contributes nothing, deserve the affection of one man after another?
Right now, Zhou Yu is just King Jingyao’s childhood sweetheart. Even if she’s carrying Min Xin’s child, she has no official standing. Surely, as his actual daughter, I have more right and a better claim to be here taking care of Min Xin.
Gu Mingzhu looked at Zhou Yu with hostility. "What are you doing here?"
If it weren’t for this woman, Uncle Min wouldn’t be lying here. He’ll definitely regret this when he wakes up!
Zhou Yu generally had a pleasant personality, but she was also a proud "little fairy." She couldn’t be bothered with people like Gu Mingzhu or Tang Yuan. She simply walked over to look at Min Xin, then glanced at his medical chart and quietly asked a young nurse nearby, "What does this say?"
The nurse glanced at the chart. "Mr. Min inhaled some toxic gas, but his life isn’t in danger. He also has some minor burns."
She pointed to a spot on the chart. "It’s near his heart."
Zhou Yu gently pulled aside his hospital gown. A bandage was wrapped around the area; it was definitely not a small burn, but about the size of her palm.
Why did he have to do that? she wondered. If he doesn’t care about me, why would he rush into the fire to save me? He was the one who hurt me, and yet he was also the one who couldn’t bear to let me go.
Zhou Yu sighed softly. "How long will he have to stay in the hospital?"
"In this situation, normally about ten days. However, Mr. Min has been hospitalized frequently recently, so his immune system might be a bit weak. We’ll have to see how it goes," the nurse replied with a smile.
Zhou Yu nodded, ready to leave. But just then, Gu Mingzhu spoke, her tone sarcastic and harsh, "Mrs. Zhou, you and Uncle Min are no longer related in any way. There’s no need for such hypocrisy."
Zhou Yu gave a slight smile. "Oh, really? Can’t old friends check up on each other?"
Gu Mingzhu’s expression tensed. "You’re the one who caused him to be like this! Shouldn’t you be staying far away?"
Zhou Yu’s gaze was gentle. "And what is your relationship with him? On what grounds are you trying to drive people away?"
Gu Mingzhu was momentarily stunned speechless by the question.
She just stood there, unable to utter a word for a long moment.
Zhou Yu was a "little fairy," well-protected and cherished, but that didn’t mean just anyone could walk all over her. This probably stemmed from the pride she’d had since childhood.
Growing up, only Min Xin had ever managed to bully her.
No one else ever could.
After a moment, Gu Mingzhu, flushed with shame and anger, retorted, "Aren’t you going too far?"
"Too far?" Zhou Yu smiled. "I think your Uncle Min is the one who went too far. He’s the one who did everything, yet somehow I’m the one being blamed? Is it my fault that a man is willing to risk his life for someone? What kind of twisted logic is that? Did Tang Yuan teach you that?"
