Chapter 709: Chapter 0711: Not Lending [Part 2]

Upon hearing Chu Feng’s words, the young man who had been silent all along said pleasingly, "Captain Chu, you’re being too modest. Whether to lend or not, isn’t it all up to you with just a word?"

Chu Feng quickly waved his hand upon hearing the young man’s words, and said with a serious expression, "You can’t say that, I am also a servant of the people. As a public servant, I cannot take even the slightest from the masses. I was invited here today to see if you two are for real. Now that I’m sure, you should discuss the actual rental with Boss Dong. Of course, another reason I’m here is to prevent certain ill-behaved civil servants from engaging in forced transactions, tarnishing the image of our civil service."

Old Guo’an glared fiercely at the young man who spoke out of turn.

He understood Chu Feng very well. He had read Chu Feng’s profile countless times. Chu Feng was definitely the type who, if you said one wrong word, could draw a whole bunch of useful and useless things. In the end, he could make you forget even your own purpose.

Chu Feng refreshed people’s understanding of ’cheap’ time and time again with his own ’cheapness’.

Cheapness can be of many kinds, but Chu Feng’s cheapness was truly king of cheapness.

Not wanting to stray too far off topic, Old Guo’an quickly interrupted Chu Feng, "Captain Chu, he’s new. Don’t stoop to his level; Captain Chu’s integrity is a model for both Dragon Soul and National Security. Let’s discuss the hotel matter instead."

It was imperative for Old Guo’an to prevent Chu Feng from going off on a tangent. If he continued, the matter at hand would never get done.

Chu Feng said, "I’ve said it before, don’t ask me about the rental, ask him. He’s the boss."

Chu Feng cleanly shifted the issue away from himself. Even if they wanted to pin the blame on him, they couldn’t.

Moreover, the registered owner of both Shuiyun Restaurants was indeed Dong Wanliang. Although nominally, Dong Wanliang of Shuiyun Restaurant was Chu Feng’s subordinate, there was no evidence to prove it so far.

"Boss Dong, we want to rent. We can rent out the entire Shuiyun Restaurant at the price of the President’s suite. We will end when the suspect arrives," said the young National Security agent.

After a pause, Old Guo’an continued, "And Boss Dong, you can give your staff holidays. We will find replacements for all the waiters. As for the expenses during this period, we will cover them all. Do you think this price is right?"

Dong Wanliang wasn’t a fool, although the offered price was tempting. But would National Security let himself take such a big advantage for nothing?

So Dong Wanliang would rather not make the money than get involved in these troubled waters.

Money is important, but life is more important. There’s such a risk when cooperating with National Security. Dong Wanliang also knew that Chu Feng had a feud with National Security.

To expect your enemy to repay a grudge with a favor and proactively offer you a chance to make a fortune was pure wishful thinking.

Just as Dong Wanliang was contemplating what reason to use to refuse, Chu Feng suddenly said, "This is absolutely impossible."

Upon hearing Chu Feng speak, the young National Security agent couldn’t help but mock, "Didn’t you just say that Shuiyun Restaurant has nothing to do with you? Why are you making decisions for the boss now?"

Chu Feng heard the young man’s words and his mouth curved into a cold smile.

Seeing Chu Feng’s cold smile, Old Guo’an hurriedly tried to interrupt him.

But when it came to verbal sparring, Chu Feng was much savvier than Old Guo’an.

"Which ear of yours heard me making decisions for him? What you heard with that ear, was my ’no’ to this matter?" Chu Feng fired off two questions in a row, leaving the National Security young man speechless.

However, Old Guo’an heard something from this exchange and said with a smile, "Captain Chu, are you implying that Shuiyun Restaurant can be rented out?"

Chu Feng replied, "I’ve said before, whether to rent or not is the boss’s affair. My earlier ’no’ referred to the fact that your price isn’t right. Those funds come from the state. To just name a price is to waste national funds."

Hearing Chu Feng’s words, Old Guo’an was even more excited, as he seemed to see the dawn of accomplishing his goal.

"Captain Chu, now that you put it that way, I understand. Boss Dong, I’ll rent your entire hotel at market price, taking all the rooms." Old Guo’an said with a hint of excitement.

Dong Wanliang then found himself unclear about what Chu Feng was really after. He didn’t understand whether Chu Feng was for or against him renting the property.

"Boss Dong, you need to think this through. Don’t let the fact that we’re government and you’re a civilian cloud your judgment or your plans, such as practical difficulties like renovations. If there are issues, remember to seek out the government, they’ll help you find solutions," Chu Feng said pretentiously.

Upon hearing Chu Feng’s words, a light shone in Dong Wanliang’s eyes, and he immediately pretended to be troubled and said, "Sirs, I’m really willing to cooperate with the government. I’d be happy to offer my assistance even for free. But both my hotels have just come into my hands; I plan to renovate them, so it might be difficult to help everyone."

The young National Security agent, angered by Dong Wanliang’s words, blurted out, "What do you mean by that? You have to renovate just when we want to rent?"

Chu Feng frowned and said, "Are the people from National Security taught like this? No manners whatsoever; taking people like you out is just a disgrace."

After a pause, Chu Feng continued, "Since he wants to renovate, let’s not force the issue. But you could tell me about your mission; maybe I can lend a hand? Doing some hard labor, catching someone, I can still manage that."

Though Old Guo’an was about to get angry, his mind became active again upon hearing what Chu Feng had said.

"If Captain Chu could help, we’d be tremendously grateful. But I wonder, would it interfere with your time?" Although Old Guo’an was overjoyed inside, he kept a cool demeanor outwardly.

Chu Feng said, "Tell me about it first, then I’ll see if I can be of assistance."

Old Guo’an said, "It’s actually quite simple, just a smuggler we want to bring to justice."

Chu Feng nodded and asked, "And what’s his connection to Shuiyun Restaurant?"
