Cannon Fodder in an Era Drama — I Survive with Acting-Chapter 153: Soft Knife
"Where I’m going is none of your business."
Song Qingya struggled to keep her composure, turning to sidle past her.
But just as she moved, Song Chenglu, as if anticipating it, blocked her path again.
"Sis, you’re going to Jing City, aren’t you?"
She stared intently into Song Qingya’s eyes, refusing to back down an inch. "I’m going too! I have to find Brother Ajin!"
Song Qingya finally stopped.
She slowly turned around, staring at Song Chenglu, the corner of her mouth curling into a sarcastic arc. "What are you going to do? Cause trouble?"
Song Chenglu felt a chill run down her spine under that gaze.
But she gritted her teeth. "I... I’m worried about Brother Ajin too... I... I want him to be safe..."
"You’re worried about him?" Song Qingya let out a cold laugh.
"Song Chenglu, stop acting. You really think I can’t see what you’re thinking?"
She advanced on her, step by step. "Are you afraid I’ll steal Ajin from you, or are you afraid that if he dies, you’ll lose that pathetic little fantasy of yours?"
Song Chenglu’s face instantly turned deathly pale.
"Sis, what are you talking about? I... I’m really worried about Brother Ajin... Besides, his parents are getting older. If something were to happen, how dangerous would it be for you to go alone? If I come along, we can look out for each other!"
Song Qingya understood.
She wasn’t concerned about Ajin, nor was she genuinely worried about the dangers of the journey.
She was using Mr. Fei and Liu Li as bargaining chips to force her to bring her along.
It was a soft knife, a killing blow that drew no blood.
Seeing her silent for a long moment, Song Chenglu thought she was wavering.
"Sis, please let me go with you. I swear, I won’t cause any trouble, okay?"
Song Qingya continued to stare at her.
That face, once so innocent and cheerful, was now etched with calculation and pretense.
She saw the unconcealable smugness in Song Chenglu’s eyes, and a wave of intense nausea washed over her.
"Song Chenglu, stop pretending. You think I don’t know what you’re up to? You just want to come with me to see how Fei Jin is doing so you can take the chance to cozy up to him, right?"
Song Chenglu’s fingertips trembled.
She never imagined her sister would expose her intentions so bluntly.
"Sis... I..."
She wanted to explain, but the words died on her lips, unable to even convince herself.
"Shut up!"
Song Qingya’s voice turned cold.
"We’re sisters, for God’s sake. Can’t you just behave? Stop scheming against me all the time. It’s truly pathetic!"
’Sisters?’
’Blood ties?’
Coming from Song Qingya’s mouth, these words sounded so incredibly ironic.
Song Chenglu’s gaze faltered, and her shoulders trembled slightly.
"Sis, do you really have to talk to me like this?"
Her voice trembled as she bit her lip. "I’m just worried about Brother Ajin and want to go see him with you. Is that so wrong?"
After a pause, her tone shifted. "Besides, I can lend a hand if I go. What if something happens to you when you’re all alone? You can’t just shoulder everything by yourself, can you?"
Song Qingya’s heart was burning with anxiety.
Every second that ticked by, every minute wasted, put Fei Jin in more danger.
She knew this wasn’t the time to bicker about their sisterly grievances, but the person in front of her kept pushing her buttons, time and time again.
"Sis, don’t worry, I really don’t have any other motives."
Song Chenglu made a gesture of swearing an oath. "If I have any ulterior motives, may I never see Brother Ajin again!"
Then, she lowered her voice, closing in with a hint of a threat. "If you don’t take me, I’ll go wake Mom right now and make sure the whole family knows you’re going to find Fei Jin."
’You can’t escape. Either you take me, or we all go down together.’
"Song Chenglu, you say one more word!"
Song Qingya’s eyes were ice-cold. "I’ll go tell Mom right now that you’re up in the middle of the night, trying to force me to take you to Jing City! Who do you think she’ll hear from first, you or me?"
The color drained from Song Chenglu’s face and lips.
She hadn’t expected her sister to be so ruthless, to fight fire with fire.
If Mrs. Song found out she was planning to travel all the way to Jing City, she would undoubtedly stop her on the spot, confiscate her keys, lock the door, and she wouldn’t even get her phone back.
"Fine! You’re ruthless!"
She spat out two words through gritted teeth.
"I’m going to get my things!"
With that, she turned and stormed back into her room.
Song Qingya watched her go, her brow furrowed, her eyes filled with weariness and helplessness.
She knew this trip wouldn’t be peaceful, and she knew Song Chenglu wouldn’t behave.
But right now, Fei Jin’s life was more important than anything.
There was no more time to waste.
She had to get to Jing City immediately and find Fei Jin.
"Hurry up!"
She stood at the door, her tone impatient, her fingers tapping restlessly on the doorframe. "Stop dawdling! If you drag this out any longer, he’ll be gone!"
A voice replied from the room, "I know!"
Song Qingya took a deep breath, trying her best to suppress the rage boiling inside her.
’Once we get to Jing City, I have to find a way to ditch Song Chenglu.’
But Song Chenglu deliberately took her time, emerging slowly after what felt like an eternity.
She was wearing what she considered her prettiest floral dress.
"Sis, let’s go."
Song Qingya didn’t even glance at her, simply turning and walking out.
Song Chenglu’s hand froze in mid-air, and the smile on her face slowly hardened.
The ride was incredibly bumpy.
Song Chenglu didn’t shut up the entire time in the car, asking one random question after another.
"Sis, do you think... something really happened to Brother Ajin?"
"Sis, is Jing City really chaotic right now? I heard things are pretty bad over there. Will we run into trouble?"
She spoke while surreptitiously observing Song Qingya’s expression.
"Sis, where are you planning to look for Brother Ajin? Do you have any leads? Did anyone tell you where you can ask around?"
She pressed on relentlessly, her eyes flickering, clearly with ulterior motives.
Song Qingya leaned back against the seat, her eyes closed and her brow slightly furrowed.
When Song Qingya didn’t respond, Song Chenglu assumed she was asleep. She quietly turned her head, her gaze falling on Qingya’s lower abdomen, a flash of venom in her eyes.
’Why should Song Qingya get to be pregnant with Fei Jin’s child?’
’Why does she get to be the legitimate daughter-in-law of the Fei Family, while I can only watch from the sidelines?’
The army-green jeep had just arrived in Jing City as the sky began to lighten.
The moment Song Qingya got out of the car, Cheng Peng came rushing over.
"Sister-in-law! What are you doing here? It’s not safe!"
His voice was hoarse, his expression frantic.
Song Qingya had no time for pleasantries and grabbed his arm.
"Cheng Peng, is there any news of Ajin? Where is he?"
Her voice trembled, her eyes fixed on Cheng Peng. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Cheng Peng lowered his head, his lips moved a few times, but he couldn’t get a single word out.
"Sister-in-law... still nothing... Really, no news at all."
Her mind went blank with a buzz, and the world started to spin.
Her knees gave out, and her body crumpled, nearly collapsing straight to the ground.
Cheng Peng’s reflexes were quick, and he firmly caught her by the shoulders.
"Sister-in-law, don’t panic, please don’t panic... We’ll definitely find the village chief! There’s still hope! Maybe he was just thrown by the blast and fell into some hidden trench, and no one’s found him yet... He’s so capable, and he’s tough as nails. He’d never go down that easily!"
