Chapter 636: -Chapter 636-

It was a cozy evening despite the snow, Davian practically carrying his mate in to keep him out of the cold.

Lake simply smiled as he was guided in. Caspian had so much energy, the other Omega’s excitement was palpable, it made his face glow.

Jael and Rosie were already in the foyer, Rosie quick to take videos and pictures on her phone. It was already a lovely start to the dinner they were about to have.

The foyer was already crowded when Nikolai and Angelo showed up, evidently surprised to bump into so many people.

Having dinner together was no longer strange, but getting an invite to a special dinner was. It really shouldn’t have come as a surprise that Asher and Caspian would also be invited.

"It’s the first snow outside," Lake was quick to inform Angelo, even though he had been hurried out of the cold.

It had been more a couple of weeks since they both started living in the mansion, Lake had unwittingly gotten closer to the reserved Omega.

"It is?" Angelo widened his eyes, glancing at the closed doors.

Jael had put away his sunglasses when they stepped in, and knowing that there was a high chance that Caspian would excitedly try to tug Angelo outside to see for himself, he opened one of the heavy doors.

A cold draft blew in when he did, as well as the fresh cold scent of early winter.

"We should head up to the dining room." Davian interrupted the fresh praise for the first snow.

It was only going to get colder, it made his brows furrow in worry.

He led the way up the stairs, a steady arm around his mate. To the surprise of everyone, the journey ended up in the kitchen, and not one of the dining rooms that pockmarked the mansion.

Nobody minded it; Angelo and Nikolai were already used to having their meals in the kitchen.

Caspian practically skipped in, a bright smile on his beautiful face. "It’s been so long since we’ve had dinner, we should definitely make it a tradition."

Jael and Rosie drew the rear, the dark-haired Beta took one look at Rosie, and he could instantly tell that she was practically vibrating with excitement.

Caspian being very excited for dinner was expected, but he didn’t think Rosie would also feel that way.

He leaned in close as they walked into the kitchen, "Am I missing something?" He asked quietly.

That only added to Rosie’s glee, the Omega was holding back her smile so hard that her eyes narrowed. "Shhh," She put a finger to her lips conspiratorially.

That only made Jael wary, wondering if this was a dinner he should have sat out of.

To his surprise, dinner itself went great. The kitchen was bright and warm, in contrast to the cold snow dwindling outside the open windows.

And other than Rosie practically vibrating with whatever secret she was keeping to herself, conversation flowed normally.

It was a little tense, but that was to be expected; the war constantly loomed over them, and there was the added tension of the High Council attempting to recruit Asher.

"Davian actually made everything from scratch," Lake was quick to boast, a proud look on his glowing face.

Only Caspian was genuinely impressed by this, Rosie was already aware, and the rest of the table were more than mildly concerned.

"Really? That’s incredibly impressive." Caspian generously dished out praise.

"It really is, he spent hours in the kitchen getting the meals ready for dinner..."

Davian was torn, he liked the praise from his mate, but at the same time, he would rather not have this information shared with the Mafia Kings at the dinner table.

When it was time for dessert, Rosie rose to her feet, it was time. Her face was tinged red from how full of anticipation she was.

The desserts hadn’t been made by Davian, it simply would have been impossible for him to manage everything. So save for the cake Katya made, the desserts laid out on the table had been ordered from a bakery.

Before the table could dig in, Lake spoke up. "Today’s dinner is a little special..." He said with a small smile, reaching under the table to hold Davian’s hand.

His words were enough to catch and hold everyone’s attention, "...and I wanted to share it with friends..."

Rosie was waltzing over with a sizeable cake in her hand, a grin finally breaking out on her pretty face like she was the one revealing the gender of her baby.

Caspian immediately caught on, his expression matching the one Rosie wore. "Oh my god?" He exclaimed in disbelief, eyes wide. "How did you keep this from me all week?"

"I’ll admit it was very hard," Lake said, rising to his feet when Rosie gingerly placed the cake on the table in front of him.

He still held onto Davian’s hand so naturally, his Alpha rose with him, his serene gray eyes fixed on Lake.

A good chunk of the table wasn’t quite sure what was going on, but they could tell that it was quite important, so they paid attention, waiting expectantly.

There was already silverware on the table, so Lake simply picked up a ribbon-tied knife that had been prepared earlier.

Rosie stepped back, producing a camera from thin air. She didn’t want to miss even a single moment, wanting to capture even their minute expressions at the reveal.

Caspian also took out his phone, biting back his impatience when Lake lightly dipped the knife into the cake. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

It was a chocolate cake, delicate chocolate swirls interspersed with vibrant strawberries decorated the cake.

There was no aplomb or ceremony, Lake cutting right into the cake after the first hesitation.

The table seemed to hold its breath, the snow outside the window dwindling.

Lake cut out a little slice of the cake, soft brown eyes going wide as the interior of the cake was revealed.

The cheesecake filling was dyed an unmistakable blue, a gasp coming from Caspian as the little slice was lifted.

"It’s a boy!" Lake beamed, looking up at his mate.

Davian’s slight disappointment that it hadn’t been a baby girl completely disappeared when Lake looked up at him, his expression softening. If he were lucky, their baby would turn out to be exactly like his perfect mate.
