Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 687: Prison
Team 2, together with Agent Tak, ventured into the west building.
The hallway stretched with rows of small, bare and dusty rooms, reminding them of a dormitory building. However, unlike typical dorms equipped with a common space or a kitchen, these rooms were all there was. Even the number of windows were far and few in between, only found in selected rooms.
"This... looks like a prison, don’t you think?" An officer guessed tentatively, earning him voices of agreement from others.
"But I don’t recall any prisons in this area?"
"If I’m not mistaken, this building was owned by an international private company over decades ago. As for its purpose... well, I don’t know either. Could it have been a staff dormitory?"
The officers shared their speculations in hushed voices, but the real answers continued to elude them, which made the building seem all the more mysterious.
Tak Jung-Hwa, who was walking near the back, furrowed his brow when he heard that. He did not think this was the staff dormitory. In fact, he agreed that this building looked more like a prison. Even though all the furniture had been removed, the lights dismantled, and the floor blanketed in thick dust, he could almost imagine what this building looked like back in the day.
Cold, oppressive, and suffocating.
Truly like a prison.
The team methodically combed through the floors. Upon finding nothing on the first, they moved to the second, then the third, and the fourth. They gradually noticed that the higher they climbed, the larger the rooms and the more numerous the windows – like some kind of sickening privilege that came along with the ascent.
This building gave nothing but a strange and inexplicable feeling for Tak Jung-Hwa, and he couldn’t help but keep his guard up. Finding nothing on the fourth floor, they proceeded to move to the fifth, where the officers finally stumbled upon something noteworthy.
"Look!"
"These footprints... they’re new! Someone – no, a lot of people have just passed by here!"
Flashlights illuminated the floor, revealing the messy footprints amidst the thick dust. Tak Jung-Hwa stepped forward and sniffed around, asking, "Is it only me, or... is there a strong scent of blood around here?"
They glanced at each other before coming to an unilateral decision, "Let’s go!"
This time, Tak Jung-Hwa took the lead in charging to the fifth floor, and the closer he got, the stronger the pungent stench became. Until he arrived in front of a certain room, and he immediately shouted, "Stop!"
"What is it, Agent Tak— ahh! W–What’s happening here?!"
The officers recoiled in shock and horror. In the room before them lay eight dead bodies, blood staining the floor.
"What the fuck..."
"They... do you think this is done by Mu Yuze?"
"What makes you think so?!"
Tak Jung-Hwa retrieved a nylon glove from his pocket and slipped it into his good hand with the help of his teeth. "Let’s go in and check," he said in a low voice before carefully stepping into the room, avoiding the puddles of blood. The officers followed suit behind him, and after a brief investigation, they made a few grim discoveries.
"They all died from bullet wounds..."
"Tsk, look at this. He almost turned into a sieve! Who would shoot another person so many times?"
"Judging from the wounds, it seemed like they had just died not long ago..."
Tak Jung-Hwa stood up and discarded his bloody glove. "One more thing," he added to the discovery. "They’re all Alphas."
Heavy silence reigned in the room after he uttered those words. A kidnapped Omega, with a few dead Alphas found on the scene... there was only one scenario the officers could think of.
"Fuck..." someone cursed quietly. "They couldn’t have... to Mu Yuze..."
Too immersed in their own thoughts, they failed to notice the rising temperature in the air. Not to mention, the thick stench of blood and death managed to conceal the spreading smoke. When the officers realized something was amiss, it was too late— the fire was rapidly spreading to their floor!
"Fuck, why did the building suddenly catch fire?!"
"Should we bring these bodies downstairs first?!"
"What about Mu Yuze? We haven’t found him yet!"
Tak Jung-Hwa surveyed the origin of the fire and was stunned to realize that it had spread from the upper floor. What did it imply? It meant that someone upstairs must have started the fire!
A certain someone’s face flashed in his mind, and he quickly instructed the team, "Go out first and evacuate the bodies. Contact Team 1 for updates; they might have found Officer Mu over there. I will check the upper floor and catch up with you soon!"
"The upper floor?! Agent Tak—!" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
With no time for explanation, Tak Jung-Hwa rushed out, covering his mouth with his sleeve. The tongue of the flames licked him a few times as he climbed up the stairs, but fortunately he managed to escape unscathed except for his sleeves and the ends of his hair that were a little burnt.
However, the situation on the upper floor was worse than he expected. The fire had nearly engulfed every nook and cranny, and the smoke stung his eyes, rendering his vision blurry.
But Tak Jung-Hwa still scoured the floor with a single-minded determination, his gaze sharp and focused.
Until eventually, he found the culprit in the room at the end of the hallway. This was one of the rooms with a window, most likely the biggest one he’d seen in the whole building. It faced the undeveloped and barren land behind the building, emitting a dreary and bleak atmosphere.
Amidst the roaring flames, sitting in front of the window and gazing at the desolate scenery outside, was none other than Luo Xuan!
Coughing, Tak Jung-Hwa choked out, "Hey!"
The silhouette of his straight back, hair tied in a high ponytail, somehow reminded Tak Jung-Hwa of their first confrontation on a vessel in the open sea seven years ago. Back then, he had assumed that Luo Xuan was a helpless and pitiful omega accidentally stranded there, only to learn a harsh lesson when he almost lost his life at the other person’s hands.
Just like that time, Luo Xuan now exuded a distant and unfathomable aura, seemingly unfazed even by the rising flames around them.
"What are you doing there?! Get out!" Tak Jung-Hwa rushed forward, but before he could grab the omega, he heard Luo Xuan speak in a nostalgic tone,
"This really brings back memories. From the moment I was born until I was eleven, this was the only scenery I’ve known of the world."
