Chapter 695: Want To Join Me?

Mu Yuze opened his arms as if asking for a hug, and it was a gesture so adorable that He Juan felt his heart melting like a block of butter heated on a pan. "Up we go," he cooed softly, once again scooping the omega into his arms, but this time Mu Yuze took an extra mile by wrapping his legs around his torso, sticking as closely as possible to him like a baby koala.

Despite the omega’s clinginess testing his sanity, He Juan couldn’t help but feel a hint of amusement. "Come to think of it," he remarked as they left the room. "This feels familiar. Have we done something like this before? On the day we met again..."

He was rewarded by the dazzling twinkles in Mu Yuze’s eyes. "Oh, you remember..."

"Of course, haven’t I told you so?" He Juan squeezed Mu Yuze’s hip lightly in admonishment, drawing a surprised gasp from the omega’s lips. "Do you think I would lie to you about something like this?"

In the kitchen, He Juan opened the refrigerator, whistling when he found that it was full with side dishes. It was really good to have Chen Youzhi as a housekeeper. While the tempting options were appealing, He Juan had a specific goal in mind— he merely retrieved the bacon, eggs, and celery he needed. Moving to the pantry, he found a loaf of bread he’d been searching for.

Once he had gathered all the necessary ingredients, he proceeded to heat up the pan.

Mu Yuze stayed true to his words and kept still like the good boy he was, and it wasn’t until He Juan tossed a few pieces of bacon into the sizzling pan that he spoke up hesitantly, "Gege, do you need my help?"

"Hmm?" He Juan answered absent-mindedly, his mind calculating the amount of food he needed to prepare for his mate.

"Well, your cooking skill is..."

It took He Juan two full seconds to comprehend Mu Yuze’s meaning, and he almost laughed, half in anger and half helplessness. His cooking skill was... what? Barely adequate? Disastrous? Nonexistent? Unable to help himself, he slapped Mu Yuze’s plump ass, eliciting a surprised yelp from the other. "How many years ago are you talking about? I’m certain I’ve improved recently under Doctor Jia’s tutelage. Watch me."

Perhaps it was his pride as an Alpha talking, but he put in extra focus on grilling the bacon, not wanting to let his omega think that he wasn’t capable of providing for them.

Soft sizzles filled the air as the thin strips of bacon transformed into a tempting reddish-brown hue, releasing a mouth-watering aroma. He Juan felt his stomach growling, and only then did he realize that he had not eaten for quite long. Once again, he rummaged through the refrigerator, pulled out a few side dishes and heated them up in the microwave.

With each spoonful he ate, he made sure to feed Mu Yuze, watching with a heart full of warmth as the omega munched on the food with bulging cheeks, still leaning on his shoulder.

"Is it good?" He Juan asked with a smile, and Mu Yuze responded with a drowsy nod. His eyes couldn’t help but drift to the bruise on Mu Yuze’s cheek, which had morphed into a dark purple. Tightening his jaws, he retrieved a few ice cubes from the freezer, wrapped them in a thin cloth and gently applied it to the bruise.

"Does it still hurt?" he asked, his heart aching.

"What? Oh, this?" Mu Yuze took the ice compress from He Juan’s hand and pressed it on his cheek with twice the force, seemingly unfazed. "It’s nothing." This little bruise was nothing compared to the ones he had endured during his line of duty, yet He Juan still worried about it nonetheless.

"Keep it on for now, it will help reduce the swelling."

After that, He Juan continued his endeavor to create delicious and perfect sandwiches for his mate.

Halfway through, he was caught by surprise when Mu Yuze’s legs suddenly loosened around him. He instinctively supported the omega’s buttocks with an arm, asking, "What’s wrong?"

Mu Yuze gathered the blanket tighter around himself as if building a cocoon. "You’ve been carrying me around for so long, and you have a lot of injuries yourself..." a hint of embarrassment and guilt crossed his features, a sight He Juan had to rectify as soon as possible.

"So what?" He retorted in the matter-of-fact tone, pulling the omega closer by the waist and planting a loud smooch on his forehead. "They’re all superficial wounds, and you’re as light as a feather."

Mu Yuze blushed and playfully slapped him on the chest. "Pay attention to your bacon, they’re almost burnt!"

That warning succeeded in diverting He Juan’s attention. After Mu Yuze stepped aside, he hurriedly flipped the bacon and managed to salvage the burnt part. Alas, a breath of relief had barely escaped him when he sensed Mu Yuze’s slender arms wrapping around him from behind, nearly causing him to choke on nothing.

"X–Xiao Ze?"

Mu Yuze’s palms splayed over his abdomen, feeling out the hard and muscular surface. He rested his cheek against He Juan’s broad back, making himself comfortable there. "Hmm? It’s okay, just ignore me, Gege. I will stay like this."

He Juan let out a hot exhale, beads of sweat rolling down his cheeks. Calm down, He Juan, he told himself. He was certain that Mu Yuze did not mean anything by this. He was just acting spoiled, but unwilling to put a strain on He Juan, he opted to stick close like this rather than being carried around. He Juan understood it with his mind, but the same couldn’t be said with his Alpha that was thrashing and howling in joy at the sensation of the omega’s fluttering touches on his body.

All of his senses were painfully aware of the soft and lithe body behind him. Mu Yuze might not know it himself, but he had been steadily releasing happy and contented pheromones, which only served to drive He Juan more insane.

Summoning all the willpower within him, he focused on preparing the sandwiches and placed them on a plate. He moved twice as fast, and ten minutes later, everything was ready.

"Okay," he said, carrying the plate of food with one hand and large bottles of mineral water in the other. "Let’s go back."

Mu Yuze nodded and trailed behind He Juan like a baby duckling as they re-entered the room. This time, He Juan locked both doors, effectively sealing both of them inside until an indefinite amount of time in the future.

The sound of Mu Yuze swallowing echoed audibly in the air as they gazed at each other. "W–What now?" he asked, his nervousness palpable.

He Juan’s skin felt sticky with sweat, and the thick aroma of bacon tightly clinging to him caused him to frown. "I’m going to take a shower first," he told Mu Yuze. "You..."

He was about to tell Mu Yuze to wait for him for a while, but when he saw the way Mu Yuze gazed at him – half in nervousness and half in anticipation – the words that came out of his mouth transformed into:

"...want to join me?"
