Capturing the Young Doctor's Heart: Mr. Big Shot Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 152: Afraid to Reach Out
Claire Prescott nodded, not saying much.
Although they hadn’t seen each other for a long time and he had changed a lot, she still recognized him at a glance.
What she didn’t expect was to reunite with him at the hospital under such circumstances.
The doctor then said to Chase Chambers, "Since you know each other, I won’t do much introduction. Let Dr. Prescott take a look at you first."
Chase glanced at Claire Prescott and responded, "Okay."
Claire came back to her senses, moved a bit closer to him, and extended a hand towards him, "Give me your hand."
Chase hesitated for a moment, his gaze falling directly on the gold ring on her middle finger, an indescribable emotion surging in his eyes.
Her five fingers were long and delicate, the skin so fair that the ring stood out exceptionally, glittering subtly in the light.
Just as he was about to lift his hand to give it to her, he withdrew it halfway.
"It’s better to put on medical gloves first; I’m afraid of infecting you."
Some rashes on his skin had been scratched and were festering, though they had been disinfected, he didn’t want her to touch them directly with her bare hand.
The doctor behind quickly took out a pair of protective gloves from his pocket and handed them to her.
Claire accepted and put them on, then grabbed his hand, examining the rashes. Through the thin glove, she could clearly feel the granularity on his skin.
Her gaze focused intently on his afflicted area, unintentionally catching a glimpse of the scar on his shoulder, and a memory surged like a tide.
She naturally remembered, it was an injury he sustained while saving her back then.
That rainy night, he appeared in time, so the stone that those bad guys raised didn’t end up hitting her head.
He pushed the bad guys away, and though he got injured during the fight, fortunately, the police arrived in time to stop the situation from getting worse.
But that night she fainted, and she didn’t see the whole scene clearly.
Zara Leighton later told her that on the way to the hospital, a boy covered in blood himself, held her all the way without letting go.
The memories slowly gathered.
Claire furrowed her brows, and while feeling his pulse, she asked, "Do you have any on your leg as well?"
"Yeah."
Chase quietly observed her luminous, clean face.
After many years, her temperament had grown more serene, her focused manner even more pleasing to the eye, yet she still retained a purity that made it hard to look away.
Claire asked again, "Have you had any previous history of allergies?"
Chase shook his head, "On the way back from vacation a few days ago, these rashes appeared. I ate the same as usual, and didn’t do anything else."
If that’s the case, she couldn’t determine much, except that his allergic reaction was severe; otherwise, there were no other issues.
Claire released his hand, "Your heart rate is very fast. There’s an old remedy you can try. Use sun-dried ginger stalks, mint, and mugwort to boil a pot of water for a bath. Boil it until it bubbles, let it cool a bit before soaking. Usually, soaking once will have an effect."
Chase asked, "Then can I be discharged now?"
The doctor beside said, "If you’re not better after the bath, I’d suggest you stay in the hospital for observation."
Chase then looked at Claire, "Do you have those herbs at Sinclair Apothecary?"
"I have them at home, you can just go to Sinclair Apothecary later to get them. I’ll call my grandmother and ask her to put them on the counter for you."
These are common things found on farms, kept sun-dried for health purposes, and they’re not stocked as usual herbs at Sinclair Apothecary, but her grandmother keeps some at home.
Chase paused, courteously saying, "Thank you then."
He promptly asked again, "Are you working here now?"
"No, I’m here to take care of a friend who is ill." Claire changed the topic, "I’ll call my grandmother now, you can go to Sinclair Apothecary directly after you’re discharged."
"Okay."
Claire took off her gloves and said goodbye.
However.
Just after she walked out the door, a man came walking towards her in surprise calling out, "Claire Prescott?"
She paused.
Although she couldn’t quite remember his name, she knew he was one of Chase’s closest friends.
Not very familiar, she didn’t feel like catching up, she just gave a slight nod to him and walked past.
Immediately after, three doctors walked out from the ward.
Kyle King walked over to them, asking a few questions about Chase’s condition.
The three doctors, though showing complex expressions, patiently explained the situation just now.
After understanding.
Kyle walked in and saw Chase already wearing a shirt.
His athletic build was well-covered by a loose, white casual shirt, although upright and handsome, his face showed grim determination. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Kyle’s eyes flickered with a meaningful smile, "What was Claire Prescott’s reaction to your physique?"
"..." Chase helplessly, "Covered in rashes, what reaction could there be."
Saying this, he tossed him the car keys.
Kyle caught it accurately with ease, "Discharging now?"
Chase responded, "Heading to Sinclair Apothecary first."
"Sinclair Apothecary?"
"To get some herbs for a bath."
"Claire Prescott told you?"
"Yeah." Chase packed his things, preparing for discharge.
In the car.
Caden King couldn’t help asking, "She seems more and more poised, are you not considering pursuing her again?"
In fact.
Chase had never directly told Claire Prescott he liked her, only silently watched over her, unable to stand others spreading rumors or seeing her get hurt.
"She’s already engaged." His voice sounded desolate when he spoke.
"What?!" Caden was stunned.
"She’s wearing a ring on her hand."
Even if she’s not married, it’s very likely she has a partner.
Besides.
With someone as outstanding as her, she was never short of admirers.
Caden teased, "Always away, never returning home or contacting her, if she doesn’t elope with someone else, who will she be with? Remember how worried you were back when she was bullied, you nearly couldn’t pass the military exam because of that shoulder scar. With how you silently like someone, when will it ever come to fruition."
Chase didn’t reply, frowning as he looked out the car window.
Back then, failing the college entrance exam, he disappointed his parents’ expectations, and in her rage, his mother blamed it all on his early romance, even going so far as to scold Claire in front of her entire class.
In short, the words were harsh; he heard a few sentences as he rushed over, quickly intercepting his mother’s raised hand...
It’s not that he doesn’t contact her, it’s that he doesn’t dare to.
Caden glanced sideways at him, "Since Claire Prescott already has someone, do you want me to introduce you to someone? At twenty-five you’re still young, but always stuck in a group of men makes it hard to find someone."
Chase said indifferently, "Not necessary."
