Chapter 95: Stealing Spot

At this moment, the port of Pine Town was crowded with millions of people, and the harbor was filled with ships. Everyone was undoubtedly there to board Sky Island.

Seeing this, Carlotta had no choice but to anchor the Moonlight on the beach not far from the port. Then, she and Amelia each put on Illusion Masks to hide their identities before stepping onto the land of the Kingdom of Brandon.

They brought two pirates to assist them, while the rest stayed on the Moonlight to guard the ship.

Although both had expressed their desire to go to Sky Island, it wasn’t something they could do just by wanting to. They needed to gather necessary information first.

Fortunately, in Pine Town, most people were there for Sky Island, so obtaining relevant information wasn’t difficult.

As they walked towards Pine Town, they asked people along the way and quickly got a general idea of the situation.

"How did the Adventurers’ Guild get involved?"

Carlotta was a bit confused.

According to the information they gathered, only the Adventurers’ Guild had the slots for boarding Sky Island.

The Adventurers’ Guild will only select a group of outstanding adventurers from its members to go to Sky Island. In other words, those not affiliated with the Adventurers’ Guild had no chance with Sky Island.

Amelia thought for a moment and said, "Let’s gather more information."

Carlotta nodded.

They entered Pine Town, where the streets were neither too wide nor too narrow, lined with dome-shaped buildings. People in various outfits came and went, and the town was bustling with noise.

There was a clock tower in the town, its hands ticking away, showing that it was currently 3 PM.

The large building beneath the clock tower was the Adventurers’ Guild, which was almost now bursting at the seams with people.

"You two, go and gather some information."

Carlotta contains the two pirates following them.

The two pirates, one male and one female, didn’t dare to say much and quickly squeezed into the Adventurers’ Guild.

Carlotta said to Amelia, "Even though we don’t know yet how to get a slot to Sky Island, it seems the exploration of Sky Island hasn’t started yet. We didn’t arrive too late, so there’s no need to rush."

Amelia nodded, "That’s true."

"Let’s take a break first."

Carlotta’s gaze shifted and she spotted a juice shop not far away. She immediately pulled Amelia towards it. freewёbnoνel-com

After a few steps, she noticed that she had subconsciously grabbed Amelia’s hand. She couldn’t help but glanced back at Amelia, who seemed unfazed by it, showing no particular reaction to being held.

’She doesn’t seem to mind me holding her hand, so... I’ll just keep holding it.’

Carlotta thought to herself.

She held Amelia’s soft hand and slowly walked to the juice shop. Her eyes scanned the drink menu and found that the juices here were somewhat unfamiliar, all made from local fruits. They likely had a different taste from the juices in the Wendell Empire, and she wasn’t sure which one would be good.

While Carlotta was still pondering, Amelia had already ordered two "Blue Citrus Bubbles," a light blue-colored juice with plenty of bubbles.

"I quite like the Blue Citrus Bubbles here. Maybe you’ll like it too."

Amer handed one cup to Carlotta.

Carlotta took a sip and found it incredibly sweet, smiling with satisfaction, "This taste is really good. You know about the drinks in the Kingdom of Brandon?"

As soon as Carlotta asked, she felt her question was a bit redundant. As a noble lady, Amelia’s knowledge was undoubtedly vast, and it wasn’t strange for her to be familiar with the beverages of the Brandon Kingdom.

Amelia smiled slightly and said, "When I was young, I read many books. Some of them recorded the specialties of all regions in the Northern Continent, so I have some understanding. Additionally, my family occasionally buys some raw materials to make foreign drinks. However, the local ones are still more authentic."

She sipped through the straw, taking a few sips of the blue orange soda, her eyes slightly dazed as the familiar taste brought back some past memories.

When Amelia bought the drinks, she let go of Carlotta’s hand.

Carlotta held the drink cup with both hands, sipping the juice leisurely through the straw, her gaze scanned the streets of Pine Town, quickly familiarizing herself with this foreign town through sight.

Before long, the two pirates sent out to gather information returned.

Although the Adventurers’ Association was crowded, and squeezing in and out was quite exhausting, this man and woman were skilled pirates, and navigating through the crowded crowd was relatively easy for them.

They explained quickly the information they had gathered, which surprised both Carlotta and Amelia.

They finally understood why the slots to enter Sky Island were provided by the Adventurers’ Association. It was because Sky Island had appeared due to the Adventurers’ Association.

It was said that the Adventurers’ Association had paid a huge price and performed an astonishing ritual, which caused the ethereal Sky Island to appear above the coast, thus granting them the slots to enter the island.

Currently, the Adventurers’ Association has not yet decided who will receive these slots. Instead, they had made a public promise that anyone who made sufficient contributions to the Adventurers’ Association, regardless of their background, would have the opportunity to enter Sky Island.

Additionally, the Adventurers’ Association did not prohibit others from becoming new adventurers. It was still possible to join the association now.

Carlotta and Amelia looked at each other in surprise.

"What is the official stance of the Brandon Kingdom on this?" Amelia asked.

"Uh... we don’t know," the female pirate replied.

"Then continue to gather information," Amelia said.

The Brandon Kingdom wasn’t controlled by the Adventurers’ Association. How could the kingdom have no reaction to such an event?

Following Amelia’s orders, the two pirates had to continue blending into the crowd, gathering information.

After the two left, Amelia asked Carlotta, "What do you think? Should we join the Adventurers’ Association?"

Carlotta smiled slightly, "We’ve just arrived and know very little. There’s no need to rush into anything. Let’s find a place to rest first. We can make a decision tomorrow."

"That works," Amelia agreed.

Carlotta naturally planned to wait until early morning to see the intelligence.

The two then walked around Pine Town, visiting some inns, but eventually had to leave in disappointment.

There were no available accommodations.

The appearance of Sky Island had caused such a sensation that millions of people from across the kingdom had gathered in Pine Town, filling every corner with people. It was no surprise that there were no places to stay.

After all, this was just a small town, not a big city.

"We’ll have to stay on the ship tonight," Carlotta had to say.

Amelia nodded, "That’s fine. Staying on the Moonlight is more reassuring."

However, it was still early, so they didn’t need to return to the Moonlight immediately.

The two walked around Pine Town again, gathering information about this foreign place and also purchasing some daily necessities.

Unconsciously, the sky gradually darkened.

In Pine Town, street lamps lit up one by one, quickly illuminating the entire town.

It was said that these street lamps were temporarily installed after the appearance of Sky Island. There hadn’t been so many street lights before.

After nightfall, the two pirates sent out by Amelia also returned, contacted through the soldier list.

The male pirate respectfully said, "From what we know, it seems the Adventurers’ Association promised the kingdom’s officials many slots, so the kingdom’s officials have left this matter to the Adventurers’ Association to handle."

The female pirate nodded beside him, confirming this was the case.

This situation was reasonable, but it meant that for anyone who wanted to get involved with Sky Island, the Adventurers’ Association was an unavoidable hurdle.

"Anyway, let’s head back," Carlotta said.

It was dark, so there was no need to stay in Pine Town anymore. Besides, they had already gathered the information they needed.

The group turned and walked out of Pine Town.

The port of Pine Town was packed with ships, and on both sides stretched beaches that extended as far as the eye could see. Beyond the beaches, the sea was filled with ships, also extending to the horizon.

"Even at night, there are so many people on the beach..."

Carlotta asserted as they walked back.

Pine Town was too crowded, and many people had stayed outside the town. This kind of scene was unprecedented for Pine Town.

However, Carlotta could understand. The legends and stories surrounding Sky Island were numerous, making it hard for people not to come.

Soon after, Carlotta paused, frowning.

The group arrived at the beach near the Moonlight. To avoid hitting rocks, the Moonlight wasn’t too close to the beach, keeping a certain distance.

But now, behind the Moonlight, there was a ship pressing against it. Many people stood on the deck of that ship, confronting some pirates on the Moonlight.

"What’s going on?" Carlotta asked, glancing at Amelia.

Amelia, who had the Soldier Roster and could sense the situation of the pirates on the Moonlight, must have known about this earlier.

Amelia said, "It seems they’re here to steal our spot. After all, suitable places to dock are getting farther away. Luckily, we didn’t arrive too late."

She spoke in a speculative tone, stating the truth.

Carlotta understood. Even around the beaches near Pine Town, there weren’t many spots left.

"But why are they targeting our ship?" Carlotta asked again.

"Probably because most pirates can’t show themselves openly," Amelia said helplessly.

Pirates couldn’t stand openly on the deck. Many of them were wanted criminals, and if they stood on the deck openly, the Brandon Kingdom’s guards would soon come after them.

So most pirates were ordered to stay in the cabins, and only a few whose appearances didn’t matter stayed on the deck to watch the ship. But like pirates, those who weren’t afraid of being wanted were undoubtedly newcomers, often of low rank, making them easy targets.

"I see," Carlotta understood, then said with a smirk, "These guys sure know how to pick their targets."
