CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 173: A mess
Cassandra’s eyes were filled with emotions.
She wanted to say something, she wanted to express her feelings but before anything like that could happen, A loud voice came from the side.
"They are all dead."
"How can this happen?"
"It should not be .."
Everyone’s attention went to the man who was struggling to breathe. Maybe he had suffered a lot due to running or he was too frightened by something.
"What happened?" Blazh took a step forward as he asked. His eyes were glowing when he looked at the man who stood as a fake Duke. Blazh was confused. Why would the man run back here again? Wasn’t he on the way back to the Elvira Empire with the soldiers?
[Yes, the soldiers?] Blazh thought as he looked at Prince Cedric. Although the people that came along with them were small, they were still there. Blazh knew that Princess Valeria had asked the soldiers to stay away from the mountain as she made them all walk all the way but even when this happened, the soldiers were nowhere to be seen.
"Where are the others?" Prince Cedric asked as he knew what Blazh was trying to ask.
"They are all dead. When I reached the place, they had already died." the man said.
Prince Cedric was in deep thoughts. He had seen the secretary giving something to the soldiers to drink, [Was the water poisoned?]
Prince Cedric could not cancel out the possibility. The secretary was capable of doing so.
"Why didn’t you ask the others to help?" Duke Salvador said as he walked with Amy in his arms and Cassandra at his side.
"Everyone is dead." The man said with trembling eyes.
Everyone’s eyebrows raised. They looked at the tigers.
"It is because of the witch." The darkness element aids. "She absorbed the darkness from everyone but it wasn’t a mutual transaction. The powers were tinted and the people lost their lives for disobeying the deal that was made centuries prior."
Lord Bentham who was silent blinked. "But I am alive. I too belong to the Viver Kingdom. I am too a darkness mage."
"Yes, you are." The elements said in unison. "But we cannot forget that your darkness was compromised. You are not a pure darkness mage that is the reason you are alive."
Lord Bentham’s eyes shook in horror. "So you’re telling me that everyone I know is dead? The witch killed them all?" Lord Bentham asked the Tigers who did not reply.
Achard Bentham could not control himself as he teleported to the Vivere Kingdom’s royal; palace. He could see everyone on the ground. He was transported to the throne room and saw the King and Queen on the ground along with the royal sibling.
Everyone was lying on the ground. Achard Bentham could not tell if it was reality or was he dreaming. He took a step back as he transported from place to place over the Viver Kingdom, from household to household. But he could not find a living soul.
Lord Bentham’s heart was beating fast. He could not think that something like that would happen. So many innocent lives were gone. Young children were lying dead. Lord Bentham could not even make up his mind to walk towards the body and check their breathing. He was traumatized.
There was only regret in his gaze. Maybe his mother was right. There was no use in waking the witch up. Who knew what she would do? Just because a promise should be kept, the Vivere Kingdom strived.
Achard knew that his mother was trying to protect the little child of her lady in waiting, she was trying to protect Princess Cassandra but unknowingly she had also protected the kingdom.
Achard could not help but wonder what would have happened if his father, the Grand Duke had killed Cassandra when she was young? What would happen if the witch was woken up before they all could be powerful? Maybe they would have been dead long back.
Lord Bentham went back to the Kir mountain as he looked at everyone else who was staring at him.
Princess Cassandra’s hand was on Amy’s head as her lady in waiting stood lifeless in Duke Salvador’s arms. "What happened?" the fifth Princess asked. Although she could see from the face of Lord Bentham, she still asked.
"No one .." was the only words Achard Bentham managed to say.
Although Lord Bentham was not really attached to the people of the Vivere kIngdom, they were still people. Small children, adults. They might have their own way of thinking, their own dreams, and aspirations. But now everything is gone. All the dreams had evaporated in thin air.
Prince Cedric looked down. He had a sudden realization. What if the situation had changed? What if the first Princess, Princess Valeria had succeeded? Their people, the people of Elvira Empire would have died then. But even if it was hard to understand if the witch would have listened to Valeria and given her the most power, Prince Cedric knew that his sister was also cruel.
In the end, the people of the Elvira Empire would have suffered. Maybe then Prince Cedric would be feeling the emotions that Lord Bentham was feeling now.
"Wait," Blazh said as he said to Lord Bentham. "There might be people who have other elements in them apart from the darkness just like you," Blazh said to Achard, trying to make the environment happy.
"No, you saw what happened to me." Lord Bentham said.
It was Princess Cassandra who said in a soft tone, "What if they have not consumed the crystal? The crystal is the one that exploded but darkness is also an element. And there are people who have multiple powers naturally. Look at Prince Cedric, he is a wind and water mage."
With Princess Cassandra’s words, everyone looked towards Prince Cedric but the man himself was absent-minded. His thoughts revolved around a word from Princess Cassandra.
Lord Bentham knew that it was a rare possibility but it was still there. He nodded his head when a panicked voice of the third Prince, Prince Cedric came.
"Do you mean everyone who has consumed the crystal has died?" Prince Cedric said. His words were trembling. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
"Yes." The earth element said.
"What if the crystal had been consumed ages ago. It must have been absorbed by now right?" Prince Cedric asked.
"No." The darkness element said. "Although the darkness helps it but it is never absorbed. It is not part of one’s own pool of crystal. It is an existence that should not exist. No matter how many years have passed."
Prince Cedric swallowed as he looked at them all. "’Fa .... Father ..."
No one knew why the third Prince was behaving in such a manner but soon they realized. It was quite obvious that the Emperor had taken the crystals.
"I need to go there .... I need to see..." Prince Cedric was desperate and everyone could see it. Lord Bentham did not waste any time as he pulled everyone together. The tigers looked at each other before they went back into space. It resides in Princess Cassandra’s soul.
Lord Bentham closed his eyes. Although he was a darkness mage, it was the first time he was using it to transport so many people. He was only used to transporting two.
Achard concentrated. He knew that he had to do it. Everyone in the Viver Kingdom was dead and he needed to be helpful for Prince Cedric who had always treated him well.
As Lord Bentham concentrated, the body’s started moving. But his power was not enough. He could not do anything else, Achard could feel that the strain on his body was high. His body was not powerful enough. Maybe transporting from place to place has affected him. Or was it the fight with the witch?
[Help her Princess.] Princess Cassandra could hear the words of the elements in her mind.
Princess Cassandra did not know how to do it. She had not used it yet.
[Form a link with him and then think that your power has been sent there. This will shift your power to him and the Lord will be able to teleport.]
After listening to the element’s words Princess Cassandra took a deep breath. She knew that she was able to form a link. She had done it all the time. Although the fifth Princess’s body was tired she pulled her strength off. She could not let Amy’s body be buried here. She needed to bury it near their forest. A place they visited often together.
Princess Cassandra formed a link. There was not much time left. She needed to act fast. As soon as the link was formed, Cassandra pushed her powers towards the Lord.
Achard could feel refreshed and he found his strength had increased. He looked at the fifth Princess who was the only one who could do it. Princess Cassandra smiled at Lord Bentham.
Lord Bentham closed his eyes and teleported, but when they reached their destination, everything was a mess.
