CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 203: Liar Friend
Jean turned back in horror. She opened her mouth wide and was about to scream.
Crow emerged from within her shadow and grabbed Jean, preventing her from making any noise.
She squirmed and writhed but was unable to budge even a tiny little bit in front of Crow’s superhuman strength.
Evelynn smiled. She stepped inside the bathroom and came closer to Jean. Too close as a matter of fact. Jean’s face went pale and she fainted.
Crow didn’t let go. He knew how a human should faint. And what Jean did was nothing more than an act.
"Stop pretending. My friend is too clever to be fooled by something like that." Evelynn smiled.
Jean didn’t move. It wasn’t until she felt the pressure Crow put on her neck that her eyes snapped open again.
She tried to plead for her life but her mouth was still tightly covered by Crow. They could only hear gargles coming out of her throat.
"One scream and I snap your neck in half, understand?" Crow whispered.
Jean nodded.
Crow let go of her. Jean immediately tried to scream. Evelynn reached her hand out and caught Jean’s jaw, stopping her before she could make a noise.
"Still trying to fool us, huh? Do you not understand what we said?" Evelynn said.
The black cat came into vision as he deactivated his Minor Distortion.
"How good of a friend was she?" The black cat’s deep voice echoed.
"What do you mean, Master?" Evelynn said.
"She isn’t useful. Rather than using the same identity and risk exposing yourself. I’d suggest you take over her life completely. She’s a treacherous traitor. There is no point in keeping her." The black cat licked its pawn calmly while it talked. Mater used human tongue because he wanted Jean to understand also.
"So I ask again, how good of a friend was she? If there is nothing left between you two, killing her would be the better option."
Jean widened her eyes. She shook her head repeatedly.
"Please... Don’t..."
Silence fell upon the small bathroom. Evelynn looked close at the woman she once thought was her best friend. The feeling wasn’t mutual. She understood now that only she considered Jean as a friend.
After her death, Jean had done everything in her power to dirty Evelynn’s name. Was she a good friend? Evelynn could say so. Jean was reliable. But now she thought back. Evelynn was simply being used by Jean.
There was no friendship there. There wasn’t even respect.
"I don’t care about her life."
"Wait! Wait! Wait!" Jean used all her strength to mutter a few words.
The black cat grinned widely. "Let her speak. Even if she screams, we will still kill her."
There was a thick murderous intention behind Mater’s words. This time Jean actually listened and didn’t scream. Negotiation wasn’t effective on her. Only intimidation did.
"Don’t kill me! I can help you find the person who killed you!" Jean said.
"Killed me?" Evelynn repeated those words slowly. "I wasn’t killed. I died because of my disease."
"Disease? Don’t kid yourself, Evelynn. With your wealth, only cancer could get rid of you. You think a small immune disorder disease could kill you?
You died because you OD’ed, Evelynn! If you spare me, I can tell you who they were. You will never learn who they are if you kill me!"
Jean’s words were sharp. She’s a clever little witch. But Mater had no intention of keeping her. A good mouth was not enough of a reason to spare her.
Evelynn’s eyelids fluttered. She’s deeply conflicted. Because she had become Mater’s servant, she’s naturally leaning over to him for decisions.
"What should I do, Master?" Evelynn’s voice hummed softly.
"We do not negotiate with our enemies. If you truly were murdered, Master will find the murderer for you."
Mater actually knew that Evelynn wasn’t murdered. Because if she did, Evelynn wouldn’t fail in becoming a wraith. But that wasn’t what she needed to hear right now. She needed conviction and reliability, which were what Mater was giving her at that moment.
Evelynn widened her eyes a little bit. She had a natural distrust toward men. Mater was a cat. But he spoke and acted like a man. For Evelynn, Mater was a man.
But he’s different. His words could sway her. Whether or not it was because of Mater’s natural charisma or the power of the Submission Seal, we shall never know.
"I trust you, Master."
Evelynn let go of Jean.
The black cat gave a gesture to Crow. The Abomination didn’t waste any time and broke Jean’s neck. Jean’s lifeless body fell to the ground.
"That was quick. I just parked my bike and you already killed her." Selina said.
Selina and Aurora had just walked inside the penthouse.
Evelynn frowned a little bit. She wasn’t human anymore so death didn’t affect her as much. But her soul had always been very benign. She didn’t even see a fight up close in her life.
Aurora was also a gentle soul. But she changed when she became a wraith. Evelynn didn’t. That made her the most human out of everyone. Maybe even more than Selina. After all, Selina did consume Chaos from other souls before.
"You’re alright?" Selina placed her hands on Evelynn’s shoulder.
"I just... I’ve never seen anyone get killed before." Evelynn said.
"Welp. It’s lucky that her abilities lean more on the support side. I would be very concerned otherwise." The black cat snickered.
Evelynn dropped down quickly, "Please don’t abandon me, Master. I’m just not familiar with it. I can be useful to you."
This time Crow pulled Evelynn up and slapped her gently twice. Gently for him but those slaps made her snap out of that turmoil quickly.
"Keep yourself together, soldier! Master picked you because he saw something in you. He will not abandon you. Nor I. Nor Aurora."
"Am I even that good?" The black cat rubbed its chin in deep thoughts.
Selina giggled and picked Mater up. "Crow isn’t wrong. If you really are a heartless little bastard, you wouldn’t put the Zakharovs and Schattenbergs in your enemy list."
"I just don’t like their faces." The black cat shrugged.
Evelynn was able to calm down. Crow’s method was a little violent but she understood it. It reminded her of those commanders in the army she saw in the movies.
Mater rubbed his paws together. "A new Mimicry Mask is coming up!"
