CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 213: Psychosmith
The group met Becky in the Valley District. The Valley was where most of the glamour of Aeliz city focused.
But where they were contained a different kind of vibe than the rest of the district. Instead of the shiny sunlight of the Valley, they arrived at a dark alley in between large buildings. Houses here were low and built into the ground.
"What is this? Some kind of shady dealership?" Loretta said.
Selina shrugged, "Doesn’t matter what it is. Let’s go see her."
They arrived at the place. It was a house built beneath the ground. A small stairway led downwards, leading to a small wooden door.
Selina stopped in front of the door and knocked.
The slide on the door shifted open.
"You are?" A pair of eyes appeared behind the slide.
"Becky told us to come here." Selina said.
"Ah. She’s inside. Come in! Come in!"
The slide closed and there were countless locks clicking on the other side of the door.
The door finally opened, leading into a dark ominous hallway.
Loretta gulped. "That looks scary."
"Come one, Loretta. You are a Psychic. Grow a pair."
Selina and Mater walked inside the door.
The woman from before flicked over the light switch, revealing the old ancient structure of the house.
"Follow me. Adam is tinkering for Becky."
In front of them was an old woman with a hunched back and a full head of gray hair. She led them deeper into the house.
Becky was sitting on a specialized chair that looked like those you found in the dentist. There was a middle aged man, around his forties to fifties, messing with some kind of scanner above Becky’s head.
"Hmm. You have a strong wave. What kind of PSI do you want? An accessory? A device?"
"I’d like it to be built into my phone." Becky said.
"I see. The technological type, eh? Your PSI will be ready in a few days."
The group arrived at the room.
"Selina! Loretta! You came!" Becky said.
She bucked off the chair, causing Adam to almost drop his scanner. He grumbled incomprehensible words inside his mouth.
"Kids these days..." Adam said.
Becky scratched her head, "I’m sorry, Ad."
Adam flicked his hand. "Just go and explain to your friends." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Alrighty."
Becky hopped to where the group was.
"What is this, Becky?" Selina asked.
"Well. Adam is a Psychosmith."
Apart from the common PSI that the big corporations sold, there were independent artificers that built personalized PSI and other Psychoware. They were called Psychosmith. Adam was one of them.
"Big Corp PSIs are very good but they usually don’t last long. The quicker they break, the more they can charge you." Becky said.
"Makes sense." Selina nodded.
"Do you girls need some food?" The old woman from before brought a dish of fruits to the room.
"Ma! I told you not to disturb my clients!" Adam rubbed his temples.
"Please. Your customers always like me."
"She isn’t wrong." Selina chuckled.
The girls took a few bites from the fruit dish before Ad’s mother went away because of her son’s disdain.
"Well. I can’t say that I am the best Psychosmith out there. But my PSIs are reliable. If it breaks because of my fault, I will fix it for you free of charge.
Of course, if you break it in combat or other means, there will be a price." Ad said.
"I want to see some of the PSIs you have." The black cat’s deep voice echoed.
Adam turned toward Mater. Surprisingly, he wasn’t fazed at all when he saw a talking animal.
"A familiar? The last time I saw one that could talk it belonged to a PHANTOM." Adam said.
"Don’t tell me her name is Iris." Mater’s mouth twitched a little.
"How do you know?" Adam widened his eyes.
The black cat pointed at Selina, "She’s her daughter."
Adam got off his chair and lifted his magnifying glasses up.
"This face. It really is very similar." Adam said. "What a coincidence! I didn’t think her daughter would follow her footsteps. I only heard that she and Thomas had a daughter once."
"You know my mother?" Selina said.
"I have had the pleasure of working with her in the past. I made her first PSI."
Adam pulled himself rolling on the chair. He took a small bracer out from the glass shelf.
"I still have it here. She didn’t need it later so I asked for it as a memento."
Adam blew onto the bracer. A cloud of dust floated to the air.
"Want to have a look?"
Selina nodded and took the PSI. It was a metallic bracer with a cyan paint job. It had many marks on it and the paint peeled off here and there. Selina could even feel a certain familiar Psycho Force there.
"It really did belong to my mother. Mr. Ad... Do you know what happened to her?"
"You don’t know?" Ad raised an eyebrow.
"A few people knew but they won’t tell me about it."
"Luckily I didn’t sign any damn paper so I can tell you. Your mother was lost in the Void." Ad said.
"The Void?"
"Ah. You probably don’t know about it yet. The Void is a place with extreme negative psycho energy. It is a dimension that is directly adjacent to ours.
You know about the Great War, yes?"
Selina nodded, "The world war."
"It wasn’t actually a world war. The ordinary people think that it’s a battle between the countries of our world. But it was the opposite. It’s a fight to protect our homeland from the Void."
Becky frowned. She heard about it before but didn’t know that Selina’s mother was inside the Void. Loretta never heard about the Void but she knew that there was something off about the Great War everyone heard about.
"The Void corrupts the mind, the most sensitive parts of our existence. There were many countries that were enslaved by it. We liberated many. But until now, there are still many countries still under its influence.
Your mother had a mission to infiltrate a Void Gate inside one of those countries. She never returned."
Selina’s eyelids fluttered. She held the PSI tightly in her hands.
"And my father?"
"Thomas was a brave boy. He was deeply in love with your mother. He went after her."
"And he left me." Selina mumbled.
"I know Thomas, kid. And I assure you that it was not an easy choice for him."
The black cat stroked his whiskers and listened attentively to everything. The Void could be anything. The invasion of another world. A touch of an Outer God. Whatever it was, Mater had already known that this world was sought after by many.
The Ascendant was a proof. Those deities inside the Lambkins Mansion.
"No one can get this world. It is mine." The black cat grinned widely.
