Chapter 224: Chapter 224: Burial Site

The children wraiths were separated. Suddenly, Mater was able to spot a faint connection from the wraiths leading to a direction.

"Huh? I just spotted a Chaos Link!" The black cat meowed.

The two wraiths joined their hands together once more and the Chaos Link disappeared.

They rushed at Selina once again. She had grown very accustomed to fighting with the wraiths.

The goth girl raised a hand and blocked the knife from the boy wraith. The knife couldn’t penetrate her Chaos-reinforced forearm.

Selina grabbed the head of the boy wraith. Her eyes shined bright red as she was about to dig two holes into his head.

"Wait! Don’t kill it! Separate them! I can spot its true body that way!" The black cat growled.

Selina’s red eyes dimmed down. She dragged the boy away, intending to separate the wraiths. But instead of that, the girl wraith lunged at her with its sharp claws.

Selina raised her forearm and blocked the claw similar to how a boxer blocked a jab. It was what Crow had taught her to defend.

The goth girl kicked at the belly of the girl wraith. Her eyes burned red again as two Laser Beams shot through the joint between their hands.

The wraiths were separated again.

Mater spat out the Dark Grimoire and pulled the two wraiths inside the book via the Page of Imprisonment.

This way, they would be separated at all times.

From the Dark Grimoire, the black cat could spot a faint Chaos Link leading further into the desert. It jumped onto Selina’s shoulder and pointed in the direction.

"That way!"

Selina climbed onto the motorcycle and diverted from the highway. She rode the Landa into the desert.

Luckily the Landa was an ADV motorcycle and could handle desert roads to an extent. As long as it wasn’t a soft road, the ADV could handle it.

Selina rode in the night. The white headlights of the motorcycle illuminated the space in front of them.

"This place is so much more dreary than the city." Selina mumbled.

"Of course. It’s a space without an inhabitant of humans after all." The black cat meowed.

They arrived at the spot that the Chaos Link led to. It was a large burial site with human remains publicly exposed on the ground.

"What is this place?" Selina frowned.

She parked the Landa just a little out of reach.

The cat floated in the air. It flew around the burial site to examine the place.

"It’s an execution area." The black cat meowed.

"What do you mean?" Selina said.

"A place to dump bodies of your enemies."

The black cat landed on a skeleton. Its claws extended and grabbed at the skull. Mater pulled the skull out of the dirt and dust. The skull had many bullet holes on it.

Selina looked around and spotted a bunch of bones tangled together. She opened her hands and used Chaos Control to open the hole up. Inside were an unidentifiable amount of skeletons. A large group of people was killed and they were thrown into the pit.

Selina grabbed a bone and caressed its surface.

"Burned like charcoal. They were incinerated together." Selina mumbled. "Who would do such a thing?"

The black cat shrugged and meowed, "Many people. Our friend, Tommy, in the Luciente Family. Any Mafia Family. The Von Schattenbergs and the Zakharovs. The Red Keepers. Or maybe the Union themselves and these are their political prisoners."

"Surely there is a better way to deal with all of this?" Selina frowned further.

"It doesn’t matter in war." The black cat’s deep voice echoed.

They followed the Chaos Link further and spotted a bottomless hole leading beneath the ground. It was as dark as an abyss.

Mater could see the inside with his cat vision but Selina couldn’t see anything.

"Let’s call some reinforcement first." The black cat’s deep voice echoed.

With his telepathic link, Mater connected with Crow. Crow was in the Atlas Seven at the moment and pretended to be Assassin.

Surprisingly, John Shaw was very close to Assassin. For the short time that Crow was here, John would look for him several times.

John told Crow many of his worries and plans. It was up to a point that Crow felt a little guilty of pretending. But Crow continued to do his mission.

His emotion did not blind him and make him forget that the man in front was an enemy of Selina.

"Come to my location, Crow!" Suddenly, Mater’s voice erupted in Crow’s head.

Crow didn’t react. He slowly got up and told John via sign language that he needed to go.

"You’re busy?" John spoke and signed at Crow at the same time.

Crow signed back, ’I have a personal mission’.

Personal mission was mission exclusive to a Psychic. It was similar to the mission that the Sheriff in Ines Sota had given Selina. The mission to return the Hunter Badges to their rightful owner.

Crow turned invisible and disappeared.

John sighed, "Where can I get competent people like Assassin?"

John left the room and dialed Olivia, "It’s me. How are our recruits in the Institute?"

Back at the burial site, Crow took only half an hour to reach Selina and Mater. He was flying on the sky as a crow before turning back and landed on the ground safely.

"Master! Miss Isles!"

"Welcome back, Crow!" The black cat meowed.

Mater summoned Sparrow out from the Dark Grimoire. The Satyr appeared fully clothed with the blinding smile he had when he left.

"Master!" Sparrow knelt.

"Come, Sparrow. It’s time to see how capable you are on the battlefield."

"I am more than ready, Master." A wooden lute appeared in Sparrow’s hands.

They approached the entrance. The goth girl stopped just before entering the hole.

"You’re not coming?" Mater said.

"I’m coming. But I have a bad feeling about this. I will hide myself to make sure you don’t need to worry about me." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Chaos leaked out of the diamond in the middle of her forehead. Thick red Chaos enveloped Selina’s body. They became agitated like electricity and caused the space around Selina to blur.

She became more and more faded until she completely disappeared.

Even Mater wouldn’t be able to spot her with his previous Chaos Eyes. But the Octagram Chaos Eyes could see through invisibility and illusion so this time Mater could locate her. It was different from when he had to guess where Assassin’s location was.

"That is a nice concealing power..." Crow mumbled.

"Let’s go inside." The black cat meowed.
