CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 228: Before School
The ACPD quickly arrived and established a perimeter around the burial site.
Detective Alister was not there. Only Cole arrived at the location.
"You really solved this case, Miss Isles?" Cole said. He didn’t hide his surprise. "Many Psychics tried to hunt down the NCEs but they kept bouncing back up like they couldn’t be killed."
"I just found their main bodies." Selina shrugged and acted like it was nothing.
She always felt incredibly embarrassed for taking Mater’s credits.
"You’re such a good bounty hunter, Miss Isles. Maybe you can join the force after the Institute. Either the Police Department or the Department of Supernatural Interference should be great for you." Cole said.
"I was actually thinking of making my own Psychic Organization actually. I heard that I would be able to accept Government Contracts like that."
"An organization?" Cole rubbed his chin. "A freelance type, huh? Well, even if we won’t share the same path. I still wish you good luck, Miss Isles."
Selina laughed, "Don’t worry, Cole. I won’t become those greedy corporations like the Atlas Seven. My interest will always be of the Union."
Selina actually didn’t care. But she liked Cole so she just told a white lie.
"That is good to hear." Cole shared a relieved breath. "I will be joining the Institute this semester as well, Miss Isles. Maybe we will be in the same class."
"You do?"
"That’s right, Miss. Detective Alister has become a Captain. He intended to climb even higher and would like me to accompany him. I’d need a diploma from the Institute to do that."
The black cat was lying on Selina’s shoulder. Its eyes were half-closed.
’The man finally decided to move on, huh...’ The cat thought silently.
"Really? That’s great to hear, Cole."
Cole was joining the Institute. Loretta and Becky would be there. Jesse, Crow’s friend from the previous life, was also a student this semester.
There were many more people that Selina knew joining the Institute than she thought.
And even some that she wouldn’t even think about.
Aurora also wanted to have a spot. Mater intended to deal with her legal trouble then also have her join the Institute.
Evelynn Monroe, now with the fake identity of Jean Mollison, could also join if she could register as a Psychic.
With Selina’s connections, it should pose no problem. A lot of people would want to gain her favors. That Doctor Avaline was also pretty easy to be talked with.
’In any case, I also have the credits to smoothen the process.’ The black cat thought.
Past enemies, new foes. Friends and allies. A lot of people that Selina knew would be there. And her life in the Institute would pose great challenges and hardships. Whether or not she came out on top, that would remain to be seen.
They left the premises of the burial site as there was nothing left to do.
Tomorrow morning. Selina picked Aurora up from her parents’ house. They visited the lawyer once more.
Reviving her legally now posed an issue because of the potential fraud that her parents may face. But Justin was a supreme lawyer. He managed to lower the case of fraud into a simple misunderstanding.
Of course, Aurora would need to testify in course. But Justin had already handled everything.
They managed to ’win’ the case. Her parents didn’t have to suffer any legal repercussions but they would need to pay back what they owed to the insurance company.
Selina was there to handle that issue. The amount they owed wasn’t high either. It was only 200,000 credits. Her bank account was now 1,192,000 credits after the fees.
Then they moved on to the defamation case at once. The AS Journal was forced to publish an apology to Selina. Justin simply had too much evidence against them. Continuing to fight in court proved no benefits for both sides.
Justin was feeling generous that day and only took 20,000 credits of legal fees. It was dirt cheap. But Mater and Selina did help him to deal with the Mafia. Justin was wise enough to not bite the hand that saved him.
Selina’s bank account was lowered to 1,172,000 credits.
The Highway Case came back right after. The ACPD rewarded her for another 20,000 credits and 10 tokens. This one had the least amount of reward compared to the last two bounties.
Selina’s bank account was now 1,192,000 credits. Her tokens reached 533. Her rank stayed at the top 1 of the Bronze Rankings and couldn’t go up further.
Because she exceeded the Silver requirement but wasn’t a Silver Rank herself, the token reward was reduced significantly. This was enforced by the Union to prevent certain malpractice from the Bounty Hunters. Selina would need to reach Silver Hunter to be able to work normal again.
After Aurora got her identity back, she and Jean Mollison, who was Evelynn in disguise, also took a Psychic examination.
Psychic Examination measured one’s Psycho Force and Supernatural Conversion Rate. They were basically Chaos Well and Magic Affinity. With the right adjustment, Mater easily helped the two of them pass the examination.
They passed the examination with flying colors and became one of the strongest recruits the Institute had. Alongside them were Selina and a few other people.
Coincidentally, Mater met the boy, Jesse O’Shea, from before. He also came to take a Psychic Examination. The boy was very bright and a true talented Psychic, only had lower scores than Selina.
Aurora and Evelynn had higher scores. But both of them were Warlock Servants. Their high scores were because of Mater, not their Psychic Talent.
Selina spent the remaining free time to train with Crow and learned more Psionic Skills that Mater took from the Atlas Seven.
There were two skills that Selina took special interest upon.
Enhancement Augmentation. A Psionic Skill similar to Chaos Flesh. But the enhancement could also be extended to another object outside of the user’s body.
The second was Adaptive Physique. This Psionic Skill helped the body to grow stronger and more durable with physical training at a rapid rate. One could easily reach a superhuman level of strength and durability with this skill.
Selina really liked to use the sword in her Dark Knight form. But she couldn’t wear the Abyssal Helmet all the time. She ordered a long sword from the AE Forges.
Students in the Institute could have their personal weapon. Selina picked the sword as her personal weapon.
Time passed quickly and soon, the day for the opening ceremony of the Institute of Supernatural Phenomenon had come.
