Chapter 64: Hot Breakfast

Henry was deep in his slumber with no intention of waking up soon, when he suddenly felt a great sensation of extreme heat and heat alone. As Henry’s eyelids fluttered open, he was met with an inferno of orange and red hues. He was lying on a bed of black, glassy obsidian, its smooth surface reflecting the fiery glow of the surroundings. The air was thick with heat, and Henry could feel the warmth radiating up from the rock beneath him, like a gentle giant’s breath.

"Huh? Where the hell am i?" he asked in confusion

As he struggled to sit up, his head spun, and his vision blurred. The heat was overwhelming, making his skin prickle with sweat. He rubbed his eyes, trying to clear the haze, and that’s when he saw it; the majestic, fiery landscape of a volcano’s interior.

"Wait a minute, why the fuck am in a volcano!" Henry yelled but got no response, he quickly stood up to his feet and scanned his hot environment

Towering walls of dark, rugged rock rose up around him, their peaks lost in the swirling clouds of steam and smoke. The sound of bubbling lava and crackling flames filled the air, a cacophony of primal power. Henry’s gaze wandered, drinking in the awe-inspiring scenery, and that’s when he spotted the lava flow.

Surrounding him was a river of molten fire, its surface churning and boiling, flowed sluggishly through the center of the cavern. The heat emanating from it was so intense that Henry could feel it warming his skin, confirming that he wasn’t in a dream.

As Henry stood there, frozen in awe and terror, the obsidian beneath his feet began to shift and writhe. The heat from the lava flow was causing the glassy rock to soften and melt, like wax in a furnace.

"Fuck! I better get out of here," he thought and glanced around the volcano, looking for a way out. But there was no hidden cave or holes he could pass through, the only way out of the volcano was the only way in... up.

"You have to be kidding me," he muttered, staring up at the large hole that was about 4000ft away from his current position

"How do I even get up there? How did i even get down here in the first place? What is going..." Henry’s eyes widened as he felt the ground giving way beneath him. He stumbled, his feet sliding on the slick surface. The air was filled with the acrid smell of melting rock and the sound of crackling flames.

"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! There’s no time, i have to get the fuck out of here now!" he panicked, his mind racing. When all of a sudden, Henry heard a soft feminine and familiar voice from above the volcano

"My my, isn’t it too early to be cursing?" the voice stated, echoing off the walls of the volcano.

Henry’s head jerked up, his eyes scanning the topmost rim of the volcano, and that’s when he spotted her, his mother.

Felicity was smiling cheekily, she was dressed in a white tracksuit, holding a coffee mug and standing on the volcano’s rim like it was completely normal

"That’s not how the son of a leader should speak, i shall have to teach you proper speaking manners," she said before taking a sip from her mug.

Henry gritted his teeth and furrowed his eyebrow, he could see Felicity clearly even from thousands of feet away, and he could see the grin on her face. She was clearly enjoying herself

"Mum... What the fuck!" he exclaimed

Felicity’s smile broadened. "Cursing again, tsk tsk tsk, you kids just don’t learn," she sighed in disappointment

Henry’s frown deepened, he didn’t have time to play the games Felicity seemed to love so much, he was slowly melting away

"Mum, why did you put me here?" Henry asked, as he felt another part of the rock melt, he was running out of ground to stand on.

Felicity’s smile was immediately replaced with a frown. "Are you asking me, young man?" she asked sharply, causing Henry to instinctively gulp. Even though they were feets apart, he could feel her penetrating gaze and deadly mom aura.

"Fuck! I can’t believe it," he exclaimed inwardly and checked the time on his bracelet. "I was right, she doesn’t condone lateness," he sighed in defeat

Felicity noticed this and returned to her usual playful expression. "Now that you’ve figured it out, let’s begin," she declared with a smirk

Henry sighed even deeply, he knew that whatever she was up to would definitely end badly for him. "Let’s just get it over with!" he yelled

"Alright then, since you decided to disobey my order and sleep for 5 extra minutes than what I gave, I’ve also decided to upgrade your training a bit," she said innocently with a smile

Henry’s mouth was wide open, he was completely stunned. "Wait! You’re punishing me because I slept in for just 5 minutes? That’s cruelty mother, cruelty!" he complained

Felicity raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about? You didn’t sleep in for 5 minutes, you simply didn’t wake up. If I didn’t put you here, it could be hours before you woke up on your own," she stated. "Besides it’s not punishment, it’s training,"

"This woman," Henry thought. She was right, he knew she was right, and he hated that she was right. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"Anyways, the task is simple and obvious. I want you to get out of the volcano with your full speed," she added

"Like i have a choice," Henry frowned

"Actually you do," Felicity retorted

Henry raised his eyebrow and hinted for her to explain further

"Well you see, i know that you can get out of the volcano if you use everything you have. But I want to see just how fast you are," Felicity explained

"So," Henry said

Felicity smiled. "So when I give the signal for you to begin, i will erupt the volcano at the same time,"

Henry burst into laughter, he clutched his ribs and laughed some more before slowly stopping, in horror.

"Wait! Why aren’t you laughing? Are you serious?" he asked and Felicity simply nodded

"She isn’t joking... She isn’t fucking joking!"Henry yelled in his mind

"You will erupt the volcano? Can you even do that?" he asked again, forgetting that the rock he was standing on was almost on it’s last... well legs.

"Darling, you have no idea what I’m capable of doing. Now get ready, equip whatever suit and use whatever boost you can to run out of the volcano immediately. As soon i snap my fingers, the volcano will erupt with quick expulsion, and you must use your full speed to get out at that very moment," she explained

"Does she know about the Nitro suit and... What am I even saying, ofcourse she does," Henry thought, before taking a deep breath

"Alright, let’s do this," he muttered and equipped the Nitro suit and Talaria-x, both equipments pulsing with energy to signify their activation

[+70 Agility, +20 Stamina, +10 Defense]

[+100% Speed Rate]

[Speed Rate: 2,880km/hr]

[+200% Speed Rate]

[Speed Rate: 8,640km/hr]

Felicity smiled. "Good luck darling, try not to fall back, mummy still needs you," she said and raised her fingers. "Ready?" she asked and Henry nodded, the rock he was standing on, now the size of a briefcase, lava slightly splattering on his golden boot, but the magma couldn’t do any damage to it.

"Go!"

As Felicity’s finger snapped, Henry’s world slowed down. He activated Time Perception, and the clock seemed to tick at a glacial pace. The sound of Felicity’s snap was still echoing in his ears as he leaped into action.

With a burst of speed, Henry activated Dash, and his body became a blur. He shot off the disintegrating rock like a human bullet, his golden boots leaving a trail of sparks as he hurtled towards the nearest wall.

The volcano erupted behind him, spewing forth a torrent of molten lava and noxious gases. The sound was deafening, a cacophony of rumbling thunder and screaming flames.

Henry’s Time Perception allowed him to see the lava flow in slow motion, its tendrils stretching out like ghostly fingers. He could see the individual droplets of molten rock suspended in mid-air, each one a tiny, glowing orb.

As he approached the wall, Henry’s agility and reflexes kicked in. He twisted his body, using the Talaria-x’s enhanced speed to generate incredible centrifugal force. His boots scraped against the wall, leaving behind a trail of sparks as he began to run horizontally.

The lava flow was closing in fast, its leading edge mere meters behind Henry. He could feel the heat radiating off the molten rock, his suit’s temperature controls working overtime to keep him cool.

Henry’s heart pounded in his chest as he sprinted along the wall, his vision tunneling down to a single, laser-like focus. He could see the exit, a not so distant large hole waiting to release it’s molten glory.

With a final, desperate burst of speed, Henry launched himself off the wall, soaring through the air like a human projectile. He landed hard on the exit’s threshold, his suit’s impact absorbers cushioning the blow.

As he stumbled out into the bright, sunlight, Henry felt the volcano’s fury unleash behind him. The ground shook beneath his feet, and the sound of the eruption was like a living thing, a beast that threatened to consume everything in its path.

Henry didn’t look back. He kept running, his legs pumping furiously as he put as much distance between himself and the volcano as possible.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Henry slowed to a stop, his chest heaving with exhaustion. He turned back, gazing out at the volcano’s towering plume of smoke and ash.

Felicity stood beside him, a smile playing on her lips. "Well done, darling," she said, her voice dripping with satisfaction. "You’re quite the athlete."

Henry’s eyes narrowed, his mind still reeling from the events of the past few minutes. "Are we done?" he asked, his voice filled with hope and fear

Felicity’s smile grew wider. "Oh darling, that was only just the beginning."
