CEO Ex-Husband, Don't Bother Me-Chapter 164 - 142: The Children Join Forces
The middle-aged man writhed on the floor in agony, as if he’d been given some sort of potent poison. It wasn’t lethal, but it was excruciatingly painful. His expression was a mixture of terror and pleading. "I’m sorry, boss! I was just getting anxious about Mercy’s recent attempt to acquire the Donovan Group, so I wanted to find a way to threaten Julian Donovan and make him back off..."
The man’s rage flared again. He abruptly smashed the pen holder in his hand to pieces, his voice growing as cold as a freezer. "Make him back off? Trying to kill that mother and daughter—is that what you call making him back off?"
The middle-aged man frantically waved his hands in denial. "No! No, boss! I only sent three men. I never told them to take their lives..."
The tall, thin man’s body suddenly went rigid. ’If he didn’t order it, then who did?’
The next second, the man’s face darkened, a thick killing intent rising in his eyes. He strode toward the door, but the middle-aged man on the floor saw him leaving and scrambled over, hugging his leg and begging wretchedly, "Boss, the antidote! My antidote!"
The tall, thin man stopped. He glanced down coldly at the middle-aged man on the floor, then pulled a pill from his pocket and tossed it to him. "Wendy Lowe, if you ever dare to act on your own again, the only thing waiting for you is death!"
The greatest advantage of being a Pharmacist was his skill in concocting all sorts of drugs. Whether it was a lethal poison or a life-saving medicine, as long as he wished, he could save a life—or kill without a trace.
After tossing the antidote to Wendy Lowe, Sean Donovan turned and left, a sinister aura clinging to him. Wendy Lowe, meanwhile, eagerly swallowed the antidote and collapsed on the floor, waiting for the medicine to take effect and purge the poison from his body.
「Nursing Home.」
Sean Donovan practically stormed into the room where Charles Donovan was staying. Charles’s caregiver was just about to help him lie down, but seeing Sean burst in like that, the caregiver tactfully withdrew. Sean stood there, seething with rage, and confronted Charles. "You were the one who sent someone to kill them, weren’t you?"
Charles Donovan was deeply displeased. "Sean, is that any way to speak to an elder?"
In Charles Donovan’s memory, Sean Donovan had always been gentle and polite. In all these years, the grandfather and grandson had almost never argued. Now, for the sake of a woman, he was shouting at him like this. Charles’s loathing for Naomi Shaw intensified.
Sean Donovan’s eyes were filled with deep despair and even deeper sorrow. He looked at Charles Donovan, his voice tinged with misery. "Why would you do this? You knew how important she is to me, yet you still acted so ruthlessly. Will you not be satisfied until you’ve left me with nothing?"
’He hated Julian Donovan, and he hated Charles Donovan. If it weren’t for Charles, his father and mother never would have ended up in that disastrous union. He would never have been born into this world, forced to endure the cruelest of separations. Now, when he had finally managed to fall in love with a woman, Charles was trying to strip him of his right to happiness once again. How could he not hate him?’
Charles Donovan snorted coldly. "Only if that woman is dead will you be free from Julian Donovan’s influence. Only then can you fight him with everything you’ve got! Back then, two women were tangled up in a mess over your father. Are you and Julian now going to get tangled up over one woman?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Sean Donovan squeezed his eyes shut in despair. When he opened them again, they were filled with coldness and killing intent. "From this day forward, stay out of my affairs. Otherwise..."
He paused, his gaze on Charles Donovan turning sinister. "Otherwise, don’t blame me for what I do!"
Charles Donovan trembled with rage at his arrogant and disrespectful tone. "You bastard! What is this attitude? Are you going to kill me next?!"
Sean Donovan said nothing more. He just shot Charles Donovan a venomous glare before turning to leave. ’If they push me too far, they can’t blame me for destroying everyone. The truth is, all these years, Charles never really treated him like a grandson—only a puppet. If Charles hadn’t treated him this way, he never would have sought his own opportunities elsewhere, starting down this road of no return.’
Charles Donovan was so enraged he began to gasp for breath on the hospital bed, breaking into a violent coughing fit. Fortunately, the caregiver came in just in time, helping him sit up and soothing his breathing. He finally calmed down; otherwise, he might have literally died of anger from Sean’s last words and that final glare.
Back at the hospital, Naomi Shaw kept a tireless vigil over Joy. Julian Donovan went out and brought back some food for her, but she just shook her head. "I can’t eat..."
