Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Will Not Leave You (Part 1)

Lara Nash huffed coldly.

"I know he doesn’t want me here. That’s exactly why I’m going over—to piss him off!"

Lara couldn’t help but smile smugly as she thought about Julian Donovan’s awkward, standoffish temper.

"I never knew what my purpose in life was, but now I’ve finally figured it out. It’s to annoy Julian Donovan to death! Haha, let’s go, time for the feast!"

Lara dragged Ronan Joyce out the door. Ronan, completely unable to handle Lara, followed her next door. To be honest, he was also curious to see the dynamic between Julian Donovan and Naomi Shaw. He had a feeling that gentle girl might just be able to move Julian’s heart.

Something came up today, so this is later than usual. There will be another Chapter shortly.

When Julian Donovan finished work and returned home, the first thing he saw upon walking in was Lara Nash and Ronan Joyce sitting casually in his dining room, laughing and chatting. He almost thought he’d walked into the wrong house. In the kitchen, the figure of a certain young woman was busy at work. His expression immediately darkened.

Lara leaned close to Ronan Joyce’s ear and whispered,

"Look, look, his face is about to change!"

Ronan ignored her, simply nodding and smiling at Julian. Julian returned a polite smile before turning to the petite figure in the kitchen and saying in a cold voice,

"Naomi Shaw, come with me for a moment!"

Unexpectedly, Naomi Shaw just glanced back at him before quickly turning around again.

"Julian, you’re back! Did you need me for something? Just a second, let me just finish ladling out this last soup!"

Julian’s face darkened further as he strode upstairs. Lara burst into unrestrained laughter behind him. ’Naomi’s innocent personality is the perfect counter to Julian’s awkward, brooding nature. It hits the mark every time. Julian’s fuming over there, and Naomi has no idea she’s made him mad.’

Naomi Shaw ladled out the soup, brought it to the table, and said to Lara and Ronan,

"You two go ahead and eat. I’m just going to pop upstairs for a second!"

She went up to the bedroom. The moment she walked in, Julian Donovan dragged her inside and pinned her against the back of the door.

"Who gave you permission to invite them over for dinner?"

She blinked her big eyes, looking utterly innocent as she asked him weakly,

"What’s wrong? The three of us used to eat together all the time."

Julian was about to lose his mind.

"My woman serves only me. Why are you waiting on them?"

She looked even more innocent.

"I don’t feel like I’m ’waiting on’ them. I had to cook anyway, I just made enough for two more people..."

Julian felt it was impossible to communicate with her. He released her and gave a cold command,

"From now on, they are not allowed here again. I don’t like strangers in my house!"

He was so domineering and unreasonable that even the good-natured Naomi Shaw felt aggrieved.

"But Lara is my best friend. She helps me out so much, and she can’t cook. Why can’t I invite her over?"

"I said no, and I mean no!"

Julian refused her flatly. She bit her lip, a hint of stubbornness in her eyes as she looked at him.

"If that’s how it’s going to be, then I’ll just move back out!"

She loved him, but she couldn’t abandon her best friend just for the sake of love. This was just too much.

"You dare!"

Julian couldn’t stop himself from roaring. ’Damn it, this woman is threatening to move out over a friend? Am I not important to her?’

Naomi Shaw flinched back a step from his yelling, her eyes starting to fill with tears. If this had only concerned her, she would have endured it. But now it involved Lara, and she didn’t want her friend to be treated like this. She lowered her eyes and said softly,

"You go down and eat. I’m not hungry anymore."

With that, she walked over to the bed, burrowed under the covers, and pulled them over her head. Julian couldn’t believe she dared to throw a tantrum and defy him like this. He walked over to the bed, looming over her as he demanded,

"Naomi Shaw, what is the meaning of this?"

There was no response from under the covers, only silence.

You have given so much. I’m sorry I’m not good enough. I have failed you.

Julian bent down to rip the covers off her, but she held onto them tightly. Annoyed, he yanked hard, tearing the blanket away. Left with no choice, Naomi Shaw sat up, but she wouldn’t look at him. She just sat there with her eyes lowered and said softly,

"I don’t mean anything by it. I’m just not in the mood to eat. You go ahead. Don’t worry about me."

In truth, Naomi really didn’t mean anything by it. She didn’t want to fight with him, but she also didn’t want Lara to be wronged. So, all she could do was be angry at her own powerlessness.

After speaking, she tried to pull the covers over herself again. Julian gritted his teeth and enunciated her name,

"Nao... mi... Shaw!"

Then he lunged forward, pushing her down onto the large bed and pressing his body on top of hers, his large hands gripping her waist tightly.

"So, you don’t want to eat, is that it?"

Naomi Shaw, frightened by the fury in his eyes, raised her hands to push him away in protest. Just as they were locked in a stalemate, Lara’s voice drifted up from downstairs.

"Hey, Julian! Are you two done talking yet? What’s taking so long? Don’t tell me your ’talk’ moved to the bedroom?"

The two of them, frozen in a suggestive position on the bed, were struck by a wave of embarrassment. Finally, Julian gritted his teeth and relented. He pinched her chin and scoffed,

"In the future, you can invite them over for dinner on the weekends. On weekdays, I’m busy and tired. I don’t like all the noise."

Since he had compromised, and Naomi wasn’t the type to press her advantage, the stubbornness in her eyes faded. Besides, Lara and Ronan spent most of their weekdays dating and eating out anyway.

Seeing her expression soften, Julian finally let her go and ordered unhappily,

"Now, get downstairs and eat!"

He stormed out of the room after he spoke. Naomi got up, straightened her clothes, and followed him down.

Julian Donovan actually quite admired Ronan Joyce. Ronan was the type of person who came from a humble background but was hardworking and ambitious. But as for that Lara, he really couldn’t bring himself to like her. Not that Lara liked him either, so the two of them barely exchanged a word the entire time. Julian spent most of the meal talking to Ronan.

Halfway through the meal, Lara suddenly exclaimed, "Oh!"

"Hey, hey, Naomi, have you gotten a wedding gift for Tyson yet? I have no idea what to get him, it’s such a headache!"

Ian Shaw was starting to prepare for Tyson’s wedding now that he was back from the hospital. Hearing Lara mention it, Naomi couldn’t help but furrow her delicate brows.

"Yeah, I haven’t decided what to buy yet either!"

Lara quickly chimed in,

"Exactly! Tyson was so good to you, I mean, he doted on you and gave you his all. You absolutely have to put some real thought into his wedding gift!"

Naomi Shaw was completely unaware that Lara had led her into a trap designed to displease a certain someone. She was still nodding along with Lara’s words.

"Mhm, you should come shopping with me another day!"

That night, Naomi Shaw was ruthlessly tormented by Julian Donovan, pinned to the large bed. He whispered huskily in her ear as he moved against her, asking,

"Have you decided on a wedding gift for Tyson yet?"

She answered honestly,

"Not yet..."

He sneered and thrust forcefully into her.

"I think giving yourself to him would be a great gift. If you care about him so much, why didn’t you marry him yourself? If you want to, I can make it happen for you right now. I can even cancel Tyson’s wedding for him. And you... I can let you go, too!"

Naomi’s heart ached, wounded by his words.

"Julian, how could you say something like that..."

Tyson may have had feelings for her, but she only ever cared for him as a younger sister would for an older brother. There was never any romantic love between them. If she’d had even the slightest romantic feeling for Tyson, she wouldn’t be here now, being bullied by Julian like this.

Julian lowered his head and bit down hard on her delicate lips.

"You don’t like hearing that? Then in the future, don’t let me hear you mention Tyson, and don’t let me see you with him!"
