CEO Ex-Husband, Don't Bother Me-Chapter 58: Leaving Him Unable to Back Down
Julian’s old place had been completely converted into servants’ quarters since Tyson had also moved out after getting married.
Julian Donovan waved his hand.
"I’ll just sleep in her room. Is Dylan asleep?"
Mrs. Sommers led Julian Donovan to the little one’s nursery.
"Yes, he just fell asleep. You can go see him."
"You should get some sleep. Don’t worry about me."
"Mrs. Sommers, is Dylan okay? Did he cry for me?"
On the other end of the line, Naomi Shaw had just woken up from a hangover. The first thing she did was call Mrs. Sommers to ask about her son. Although Lara had dragged her out to take her mind off things, her heart was still at home with her son.
Julian Donovan was bursting with anger and had nowhere to vent it. He would never have taken the initiative to call and question her. Now that she had called back and walked right into the line of fire, he decided to settle old and new scores at once.
"So you do remember to call back and ask about your son? Why don’t you just keep running wild out there!"
Startled by his voice, Naomi Shaw shot up in bed.
"You... you... you... you... what are you doing at home?"
’Isn’t he supposed to be in Meridia? How is he in Thailos? And at the Shaw Residence, no less? It’s so early... did he sleep there last night?’
Julian Donovan scoffed and retorted,
"Why can’t I be here?"
Naomi Shaw calmed herself down and then said to him,
"Um... is Mrs. Sommers there? Could you please let her take the call?"
She didn’t want to talk to him or have him disturb her peace of mind, but he ignored her question.
"When are you coming back?"
She had no choice but to answer honestly.
"Probably in about half a month. Um... could you please pass the phone to Mrs. Sommers?"
’Lara’s booked almost all the sights here in Rhovan: Lake Lugon, Mount Cryndor, Xylovale, and Shamballa. The whole trip will take at least ten days to half a month. Can’t he just pass the phone to Mrs. Sommers already? I want to ask about my son and hang up as fast as possible.’
Her attitude—trying to find Mrs. Sommers before they had even exchanged a few words—infuriated Julian Donovan again. He roared into the phone,
"Your son is fine! He’s not crying, he’s not fussing, and he certainly hasn’t been asking for you! Just stay out there and have your fun! Better yet, when you’re done with Rhovan, go somewhere else. You don’t even have to come back!"
After he finished speaking, he furiously SLAMMED the phone down. Hearing the noise, Mrs. Sommers came out of the kitchen. Seeing his dark expression, she started to ask what was wrong.
Julian Donovan just gave a noncommittal grunt and went upstairs to change. Mrs. Sommers looked at the disconnected call and figured it must have been Naomi. ’I’ll call her back after breakfast,’ she thought.
On the other end, Naomi was completely bewildered by his shouting. ’What is he so angry about all of a sudden? What did I do to set him off this time?’ She had assumed he didn’t want to talk to her, so she tried to get Mrs. Sommers on the line to ease the awkwardness between them. She never expected him to get angry again. She shook her head helplessly. ’Perhaps when you don’t love someone, everything they do is wrong. Just like him with me.’
Caleb Rhodes and the other two only stayed in Thailos for a few days before leaving. Julian Donovan didn’t return to Meridia with them. Although he had more or less handled his business there over the past few days, and Juliet Jennings was calling him several times a day urging him to come back, he refused. He was determined to wait for her return and settle the score with her properly. ’Why should I be the one who loses face and gets ridiculed while she gets to be out there, living it up?’
He had just stepped out with his luggage when he saw her and Lara getting out of a taxi, laughing and talking. So they were coming back today.
He didn’t know what they were discussing, but Lara was speaking animatedly while Naomi giggled nonstop. He was instantly fuming. However, she completely ignored his presence. Aside from a flicker of surprise when she saw him, she just gave him a faint smile, picked up her luggage, and followed Lara toward Lara’s house.
’If I’d known, I would have gone back to the Shaw Residence first,’ Naomi thought, annoyed with herself. ’Then I wouldn’t have run into him. It’s all Lara’s fault. She bought so much stuff that she filled her own suitcase and then started stuffing things into mine. I had no choice but to come over here first to drop off Lara’s things.’
Just as her figure was about to disappear from his sight, Julian Donovan called out to stop her.
"I have something for you. Come here for a second."
She stopped in her tracks, standing there and watching him with guarded eyes. Seeing no sign of her approaching, Julian Donovan spoke again.
"I’ve drafted a new divorce agreement. Don’t you want it?"
She lowered her eyes.
"Oh. I’ll be over in a minute."
Naomi Shaw put her things down and told Lara she had to go over there for a moment. Lara, who had also seen Julian Donovan just now, clenched her fists indignantly.
"Should I come with you? For protection?"
Naomi smiled.
"No, it’s fine. He said he has the divorce papers for me. It should just be a calm discussion. You go ahead and unpack."
The door was open. Naomi Shaw walked in and was met by Julian Donovan’s sinister gaze. A bad feeling inexplicably rose in her heart, but she steeled herself and said,
"Didn’t you say I was here to get the divorce agreement?"
He sneered and strode toward her.
"It seems you really do want a divorce. A single divorce agreement is all it takes to lure you over!"
"Julian Donovan, let go of me!"
"Baby, look how sensitive you still are. Just this, and you’re already so wet..."
As Naomi struggled, her hand found a vase on a nearby cabinet. At first, she couldn’t bring herself to hit him with it, but his words made her lose all reason. She raised her hand and smashed the vase against his forehead. He grunted in pain and released her. She shoved him aside and, crying, screamed hysterically,
"Julian Donovan, what do you take me for? Am I someone you can summon and dismiss at will? Am I just some disposable woman you can take when you want and then ignore for months on end?"
"After you’ve been with a woman like Juliet Jennings, I’m begging you, don’t ever touch me again. I find you disgusting!"
Naomi didn’t even bother going next door to get her luggage. She just ran out, crying, and got into a taxi. The memory of how he had just treated her was a deep humiliation. She had already tried so hard to stay far away from him, to not disturb him and Juliet Jennings. Why wouldn’t he just leave her alone? ’Does he really have to torment me to death before he’s satisfied?’
She arrived home in tears. Mrs. Sommers was startled by her appearance and rushed over to ask,
"Naomi, what’s wrong?"
She said nothing, only reaching out to take Dylan from Mrs. Sommers’s arms. She held him, weeping sadly.
"Dylan... Dylan..." she sobbed.
The little boy was cradled in Naomi’s arms, his wide eyes looking up as he pressed his little face against hers. His slobbery mouth gently kissed her tear-streaked cheeks. Naomi’s tears flowed even harder, and Mrs. Sommers’s eyes reddened as well. ’This poor child, what happened to her now?’
After a good cry, she finally felt a little calmer. She handed Dylan back to Mrs. Sommers and went upstairs to sleep. When she woke up, she received a call from Ken.
"Naomi, Julian’s forehead is injured. He’s at the hospital now. I was wondering... if you wanted to come and take care of him?"
Naomi was just about to refuse when Ken continued,
"The doctor said it might be a mild concussion. Sigh... I don’t know if it’s serious. With his skills, who could have ambushed him like that? We asked him, but he won’t say!" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
She fell silent, feeling both awkward and guilty. She had been so emotional at the time, she hadn’t known her own strength. ’What if he really has a concussion?’ After a moment of hesitation, she finally spoke.
"Okay, I’ll be there in a little while."
’No matter what, he’s still my husband right now. It was wrong of me to refuse him when he wanted to fulfill his marital duties, and it was even more wrong to injure him. I should go and apologize.’
Naomi first had dinner at home, then played with Dylan for a while. She had missed her precious boy like crazy after being away for half a month. Only after Mrs. Sommers urged her repeatedly did she finally set off for the hospital.
