Chapter 72: Chapter 72: How to Be Good to Him

"I-It’s working hours, you..."

"I’m just giving you a hug. What are all these wild thoughts running through that little head of yours all day?"

Summer Lancaster was mortified. ’Is he mocking me? How humiliating! He was just staring at me with those eyes full of desire, and now when I try to stop him, he says he just wants a hug?’

’Ugh... I’m going to lose my mind. If I fall into his trap again, I’ll... I’ll change my last name!’

Kenneth Yates let go of Summer and walked toward the dining table. He couldn’t care less that it was still working hours. He was the president; didn’t he call all the shots here? Besides, Summer had been really busy today. She must be exhausted.

"Come eat with me."

Summer got up and walked over to him, watching as he opened the lunchboxes. "Wow! Does the president eat this well every day? This is a feast!" As she spoke, she was practically drooling.

"Hurry and sit down. You’re about to drool all over the place," Kenneth said, smiling at Summer. ’She must be starving.’

Summer accepted the invitation, sat down, and began to dig in without a care for her image.

"Who prepared this lunch for you? It wasn’t one of the secretaries, was it?" Even with a mouthful of food, Summer couldn’t stop talking, still curious about the meal’s origin.

"Fletcher."

"Wow, Fletcher is such a nice guy. You should be nicer to him from now on."

Kenneth Yates put down his chopsticks and looked at her. He remembered Zane Fletcher once mentioning that Summer had told him she thought he and Kenneth were the perfect fantasy for a fujoshi. He hadn’t paid it any mind back then, but now, what Summer just said made it all click.

"What are you looking at me for?" Summer suddenly felt a little self-conscious, seeing Kenneth staring at her while she ate.

"So, how do you think I should be ’nicer’ to him?" Kenneth asked, feigning deep thought as he pressed a hand to his forehead.

"PFFT..." Summer couldn’t hold back and sprayed a mouthful of food. Her eyes went wide as she angrily slammed her chopsticks down. "By giving him a raise, of course! A raise!" ’Could Zane Fletcher have told Kenneth what I said back then?’ The thought made her skin crawl.

Meanwhile, in the staff cafeteria, Zane Fletcher let out a huge sneeze. "Ah, who’s talking trash about me?" Little did he know, he was already being messed with by the president and his wife...

"Oh... so you meant a raise," Kenneth said, letting out a long, meaningful sigh.

"What else would it be?"

"What do you think?" Kenneth raised an eyebrow at Summer.

Summer avoided his gaze. "How should I know?" She quickly stuffed a bite of food into her mouth. She felt guilty...

"I think you’re the expert on the subject. I’m not interested in men, understand?"

"Mmm..." Summer didn’t dare look at him. ’So he really knows. He knows now. Kenneth Yates is a huge pervert, and a straight-as-an-arrow guy.’

"Don’t go spreading rumors about me."

"I know, I know. But you and Fletcher just look so good together," Summer mumbled under her breath. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"What did you say?"

"Ah! Nothing! I’m full, I’m going back to work." Summer fled the office like the wind.

The secretary outside glanced at her watch. Summer Lancaster had been inside for a total of one hour, twenty minutes, and thirteen seconds. It seemed the rumors were true.

Back in her office, Summer flopped onto her desk, grabbing her hair with both hands. "Ah! I’m seriously going crazy today! Argh!"

"Argh! I forgot to ask what’s supposed to go on the main display stand! Ugh! This is all Kenneth’s fault, spouting all that nonsense and making me forget about actual work."

Frustrated, she picked up her internal phone and dialed the President’s secretarial office. As soon as the secretary heard who it was, she transferred the call directly to the president’s office. "What’s wrong? Miss me already?"

"Stop flattering yourself. I’m calling to ask what we’re putting on the main display stand at the jewelry exhibition."
