CEO, Your Wife Has Left-Chapter 80: Powerless
"Oh, right, Dad. I saw Auntie and Yvonne at the hospital a few days ago." Summer had been so busy these past few days that she had completely forgotten about it. She originally planned to come home after work today, but the trade show ran too late, so she decided against it. She didn’t know if it was fate or some perversion of the heart, but it seemed she ended up following her original plan after all.
"Is your aunt sick?" Gregory Lancaster suddenly grew tense, jumping to his feet and roaring.
"Dad, don’t worry. Sit down first. Neither of them is sick, but... I think Yvonne was pregnant. She went to get an abortion."
"What did you say? How could she..."
Just then, Yvonne Lancaster arrived home. Seeing Summer there, she couldn’t help but feel a flicker of worry. But they had already snatched the report from her, so as long as she denied everything, Gregory Lancaster wouldn’t do anything to her. After all, he had doted on her since she was a child. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Summer, what are you doing here?" Yvonne was wearing a tight, low-cut black dress and excessive, heavy makeup. It didn’t suit the youthful air of an eighteen-year-old at all; instead, she looked like one of those girls who grind their hips in a nightclub.
In Summer’s memory, Yvonne had never called her "sister" unless they were in front of outsiders. In recent years, she had just called her "Summer" even then. The only exception was at her wedding to Kenneth Yates; she probably only called her "sister" on that occasion so she could call Kenneth "brother-in-law"!
Gregory Lancaster had told her countless times that Summer was the elder sister and should be addressed as such. But Yvonne would always argue that Summer wasn’t born to her mother, so she wasn’t her sister. After a while, Gregory stopped correcting her.
Summer was about to answer when Gregory Lancaster cut her off. "Yvonne, why is a young girl like you dressed like this? Where were you fooling around this time?"
"I was out having fun. My friends invited me out, I couldn’t just say no, could I? Am I supposed to wear a school uniform when I go out?" Yvonne rolled her eyes at Summer and tossed her purse onto the sofa. It was a very expensive designer bag. The Lancaster Family wasn’t as well-off as they used to be; a bag like that probably wasn’t bought by Gregory Lancaster.
"Your sister said she saw you at the hospital getting an abortion..." Gregory Lancaster sighed. It was his own failure to discipline her that led to Yvonne turning out like this. "Is it true or not!"
Yvonne panicked. She stopped looking at them, instead turning to pretend to look at herself in the mirror. "Daddy, how can you just take her word for it? I was just out having fun. I didn’t do anything that outrageous. Besides, she doesn’t have any proof! She’s just jealous of me! Jealous that Daddy treats me better than her!" For the last sentence, Yvonne spun around, marched up to Summer, and pointed at her furiously.
Summer laughed. ’I knew it would be like this.’ This proved that they were the ones who had ambushed her that night... To think, she used to hold back out of consideration for their shared blood, giving in to her at every turn. But that had just become something for Yvonne to exploit. From now on, Summer Lancaster would show no mercy!
However, what happened next was completely unexpected.
"Summer, are you just making things up? Do you have any proof at all? I know you resent your sister, and it’s all my fault, but don’t frame her and her mother. If you have a problem, take it out on me."
The sudden shift of blame sent a chill through Summer’s heart. ’Is this still the same father who used to dote on me?’
"Dad, you don’t believe me? I found the report that day, but her mother and she sent people to snatch it away." Summer lowered her head in disappointment.
"Them? They would send people to snatch something from you? They’re just two women who couldn’t even truss a chicken."
Summer slowly raised her head, tears already welling in the corners of her eyes. "Dad, I’m a woman too. And I’m your daughter, too!"
