CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 205: Right and Perfect
Henry entrusted Amy to Mary’s care and went to the vacant meeting room provided by the hospital for him and his security team. Since it was still early in the morning, he decided to wait for a few more hours to call Rei to ask for an update.
To Henry’s surprise, Rei was already there together with Ava and Dave, and they don’t look good at all.
"You all look terrible. I know how important this case is but you all need some sleep. You won’t be able to solve this case if you are all sick, or even worse, dead," Henry exclaimed, not appreciating the dark circles under their eyes and how exhausted they all look.
"There was bad news. I already know it since yesterday but I did not want to disturb you last night since informing you won’t change a thing," Rei uttered, reflecting a defeated look.
After receiving a nod of acknowledgment from Henry, Rei proceeded, "The engineer that the resort hired has passed away." Henry’s eyes narrowed in response, prompting Rei to provide further details, "It was reported as a car accident, but the authorities had suspicions beyond that."
Dave reported on the engineer’s work situation, stating, "He worked part-time at the resort since they only utilized their planes and served clients occasionally. The engineer didn’t have any other employment due to his issues with drinking, which made him less desirable for other businesses to hire." Dave also pointed out that the engineer’s alcohol problems were the reason he charged the resort a lower rate, as he struggled to secure alternative job opportunities elsewhere.
Ava chimed in, sharing additional information, "His family had abandoned him because of money problems, and according to the report, he was making efforts to gather funds in order to reconcile with them."
"So, I’m assuming that he was killed because his attempt to kill us failed and was poorly executed as well? Is that correct?" Henry speculated, seeking confirmation or further insights from the team.
"That’s what everyone thinks, but that’s not the real bad news. The worst is that, it is a dead end. We have no leads beyond that. It was as if the engineer did it on his own accord but we already check, and he has no connection to both of you. The only thing that we are sure about is that he was paid by someone to do the job," Rei explained, running his hands over his face and head in frustration.
Henry, with a determined yet resigned expression, firmly held onto Rei’s shoulder and spoke reassuringly, "I have full confidence that you will soon identify the person responsible for it. As for me and Amy, we are safe and unharmed. However, for now, I want the three of you to go home and get some rest. Allow your minds to recharge.
Perhaps, after a good rest, you will be able to think of new approaches or strategies. And that’s an order, I am your boss and it’s work hours so unless you want to get fired, you will all go home and sleep."
Rei was about to rebut and refuse Henry but Ava pulled him out of the room before he could say anything.
Henry went back to Amy’s room only to find Anton in the hallway. "Mary is inside, why don’t you go in?"
"They are talking about something important," Anton replied.
Henry’s expression turned into a frown as he questioned, "What could be so important that you are not allowed to hear?" Henry expressed his curiosity and concern about the nature of the conversation.
"Me..." Anton replied confidently.
Henry chuckled and scoffed in response to Anton’s statement. "You? What could be so significant about you?" Henry expressed his amusement and disbelief at the idea that the conversation would solely revolve around Anton.
"Mary saw me doing self-service in the bathroom last night," Anton said with a blank face. Henry was flabbergasted at Anton’s answer. He bit his lips to stop himself from laughing out loud.
"Don’t you dare laugh, Henry! They are talking about something else as well. Come on, let’s buy them breakfast," Anton dragged Henry away from the hallway and they went to the hospital’s cafeteria.
Not wanting to embarrass Anton further, Henry remained silent and observed him. He noticed that Anton appeared lost in deep thought as if contemplating something important but uncertain about it.
"Anton, if you want to say something, just say it. You look like you’re having constipation with how deep your frown is," Henry jested to encourage Anton to speak his mind.
"I think I’m in love with Mary..." Upon hearing this Henry lost it, he burst into uncontrollable laughter. Overwhelmed by mirth, he couldn’t help himself and doubled over, clutching his stomach while crouching down.
"Hey! No laughing! You don’t get to laugh at me when you proposed to Amy the day you met her," Anton said.
"I’m sorry, I am not laughing because you are in love. I am laughing because of how you looked. I thought you and Mary were having relationship problems with how you scrunch your face. If you are sure of how you feel then tell her," Henry explained.
Anton mulled over his feelings once more and the fact that he had heard Mary said that she is willing to spend the rest of her life with him made his confidence to confess even stronger. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
The thought of confessing to her already made him nervous and anxiety wash over him. Even though he had overheard Mary and Amy’s conversation, he still can’t erase from his mind the possibility of her saying no. What if she changes her mind about her priorities?
He is not even sure if she loves him or not. He knows that Mary is a logical person and what if she is choosing him because for her it is the logical thing to do and not because of love? He had made a lot of mistakes in his past relationships and now that he found the right woman for him, he wanted to make everything right and perfect.
