Chapter 245: Potential Connections (2)

At Bellory Main Office...

"So, this is why Josephine is absent without leave today?" Amy asked Roana as she entered her office, having been briefed by Anton about the recent developments.

"Yes, boss. I’ve attempted to reach Ms. Hart on both her mobile and home phone, but there has been no response," Roana reported.

Amy nodded, her brow furrowed with concern. "That’s troubling. It seems she’s intentionally avoiding contact. We’ll have to wait and see how the police investigation unfolds. In the meantime, let’s ensure that her responsibilities are covered, and if necessary, we’ll make the appropriate arrangements to keep things running smoothly."

Amy voiced her frustration, saying, "But if Josephine truly had no connection to the case, it must have been a shocking revelation for her. She deserves time to process and come to terms with the situation."

Henry, who overheard Amy’s frustrated statement, couldn’t help but enter the room, questioning, "What is going on? Why does it seem like my wife is feeling so hot-headed today?"

"I can’t understand why everyone is automatically assuming that the person on the recording is Josephine," Amy retorted, her frustration evident. "Have any of you considered the possibility that it could be someone else, another woman? After all, you found nothing suspicious on the device you placed in her office."

Amy’s words caused a momentary pause in the room as Henry and Roana contemplated her perspective.

"Hey, hey, let’s take a step back here," Henry said, concerned by the escalating tension. He motioned for Roana to exit Amy’s office, providing them with some privacy. With a gentle touch, he placed his hand on Amy’s back, soothing her.

"Tell me, Amy, what’s behind this sudden doubt?" Henry asked, his voice filled with genuine care and curiosity. He wanted to understand the source of Amy’s distress and address it right away.

"Henry, Josephine has always been incredibly supportive and has brought exceptional employees into our team," Amy expressed, her voice filled with gratitude. "But now, with her sudden absence, I can’t help but worry. What if something bad has happened to her? It concerns me, even more, knowing that she doesn’t have any family."

"Did Josephine personally inform you about her family?" Henry inquired, seeking clarification as he frown.

Amy confirmed Henry’s question with a nod. "Yes, she did mention it to me," she replied.

Her answer made Henry more curious. "When did Josephine share this information with you?" he asked, wanting to establish a timeline of their conversation to confirm his doubt.

Amy tried to recall all information she got from Josephine during their interview, "She told me during the hiring interview," Amy explained.

"I asked her why she had relocated to Monte City and why she decided to work for a startup like Bellory when she was clearly overqualified. That’s when she shared that she wanted a fresh start after experiencing the loss of her family. She had gone through a long period of grief and was now ready to face the world again. Josephine felt that working for a larger company would be too overwhelming, which is why she chose Bellory."

"Did she share any additional details about her family?" Henry inquired.

Amy paused for a moment, recollecting more about their conversation. "Hmm, yes, I remember she mentioned that her father had been ill for a long period of time before passing away, and her sister passed away shortly after. However, I didn’t ask more about the topic. I felt it wasn’t appropriate to pry into someone’s personal life," Amy replied.

"Thank you, my love! You’re a genius!" Henry exclaimed, giving Amy a swift peck on the lips. Without saying goodbye, he abruptly left her office, leaving Amy bewildered and questioning his sudden retreat.

"What just happened?" Amy pondered to herself, feeling puzzled by Henry’s unexpected behavior.

Henry hurriedly returned to the CEO’s floor, his steps almost running. "Toby, inform Anton that I won’t be able to attend the meeting with Theo," he exclaimed urgently to his secretary, before rushing off to the investigation room to see Rei.

"Rei, Ava!" Henry called out as soon as he entered the room.

Startled by his loud and sudden arrival, Rei and Ava quickly moved towards him, their attention fully captured by his presence.

"I think I’ve figured out my connection to Alex. Please check if any of my exes have passed away," Henry stated, his words filled with a mix of certainty and urgency.

Ava, taken aback by his unexpected request, responded with surprise, "Excuse me, Sir?"

Without hesitation, Henry reiterated his instructions. "You heard me correctly. Go check now," he exclaimed, prompting Ava to swiftly make her way to her laptop to check.

"What is going on?" Rei asked in confusion.

"You’ve never been wrong with your hunches, Rei, and I have complete trust in your instincts," Henry stated, his voice filled with conviction. "I believe it’s Josephine. She’s the one responsible for all of this."

He then told Rei what he found out from Amy and his speculation that the sick person Alex is talking about is Josephine’s father. It just puzzles him what is his connection to them.

They didn’t have to wait long for Rei already had a list of the women in Henry’s past and soon enough Ava went back to them with the answer.

"Here Sir," Ava handed the printed file to Henry, "The only dead ex-girlfriend you have is Ervina Lee. But according to this, she has no siblings. Her father died due to a stroke. She and Ms. Hart are not family, Ms. Hart’s father is still alive.

"Hmm... Then why did she tell Amy that her father died?" Henry rubbed his chin with his finger as he thinks deeply. "Can you dig deeper into both women? Check their family history, there must a connection between them."

Ava nodded and went back to her laptop, while Rei stayed and placed his hand onto Henry’s shoulder before squeezing it firmly.

"Good work, this is something. I will work on this. Go and run your company, you’ve been missing too much lately," Rei said which Henry quickly agree.

"Toby, tell Anton I will join the meeting so he better wait for me," Henry exclaimed as he rush back to his office.

"What the? I just told everyone that he is not joining," Toby murmured.

Rick who was seated beside Toby laughed, "Get used to it. Haven’t you noticed? Ever since our boss met his wife nothing is consistent with him anymore. He became unpredictable ever since.

Which is good right? it’s a welcome change from our mundane routines. And to top it off, he seems happier and more cheerful these days, unlike before.," Rick, Henry’s executive assistant said making them both smirk.
