Chapter 341: Father of the Twins

"Tom right?" Ash said. "You look pale. Are you ok?"

"Yes, sir." Tom quickly fixed his expression.

"Is my wife giving you a hard time too?" Ash asked.

Amy rolled her eyes, "What are you talking about? I am always nice to everyone." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Ash laughed before coughing hard again.

"Oh gosh, you should rest," Amy quickly got out of the car and Charled moved Ash’s wheelchair closer to the car’s door and instructed Tom to help Ash get into it.

Everyone then gave Ash a warm welcome as he entered the mansion. Amy cut it short insisting that her husband needed rest because of the long hours of flight from Brookegrove to Monte City.

Tom was surprised to see the newly installed elevator still smelled fresh from the box. He continued pushing the wheelchair to the master bedroom but Ash stopped him.

"Woah, wrong room bro. The room to the right is my room. The left room is Amy’s in case you need to carry her when she gets drunk again," Ash jested and smiled at Amy who squinted at him.

’Does she really not remember anything last night?’ Tom asked himself while watching Amy help Ash and his nurse settle him into the bed.

Tom walked out of the room to help others in the preparation for the party when Amy called for him.

"Tom, I know this is not the right time. But I wanted to apologize for my actions last night."

Her apology surprised him but also made him wonder which action she was referring to.

"It’s ok ma’am, I understand you were drunk. And it’s natural to miss your dead husband and wish for him to be alive again," Tom said casually.

Amy slightly tilted her head and narrowed her eyes as she tried to decipher what is Tom talking about.

Tom’s eyes widened and realized that he and Amy were thinking of different things. Tom waved both his hands and said, "I just meant that you were saying things while sleeping."

Amy stepped closer to Tom and he stepped back until his back touched the wall in the hallway. She pointed her finger at his face and squinted her eyes, "YOU! Whatever you heard last night, you should keep it to yourself if you want to keep your job!"

Tom dropped his jaw and nodded excessively, "Yes! Ma’am." He was stunned at the fierceness that Amy showed.

Amy then walked to her room and gave him one last glance as she raised one of her eyebrows before slamming the door close.

’Wow, she’s feisty. And here I thought she was apologizing,’ Tom shook his head and smirked before going on his way.

Amy leaned against the door and placed her hand on her chest. "What was that about? What did I do last night?"

Just like Mitch said, everyone in the mansion was invited, and the workers took turns serving and partying. Tom stayed on the sidelines and watched everyone enjoy themselves.

He was drinking wine alone, sitting on a bench under one of the trees when a plate with a slice of cake appeared right in front of his face. Tom saw Jayson grinning before urging him to take the plate.

Jayson sat beside him, "Are you enjoying yourself?"

"Yes, sir. Your family is a joyous one," Tom said before he tasted the cake that they bought earlier.

"Call me Jayson, and I will call you Uncle... Tom. I think that’s what you like right?" Jayson said. "It is almost perfect. We’ve lost so many people and we are going to lose another one. But I am glad you are here Uncle."

Tom furrowed his brow, he felt like Jayson was insinuating something by the way he talked. Tom decided to stay silent and observed the boy for a while. When Jayson did not talk, his curiosity got the best of him.

"You said you will lose someone. Who is leaving?" Tom asked nonchalantly.

"Uncle Ash is terminally ill... He has stage four lung cancer and will die soon..."

Tom stopped eating and was frozen from his seat. In just twenty-four hours of working for Amy, the surprises that he gets are never-ending. The calmness in Jayson’s tone shocked him the most. It was as if the boy was just telling a normal story.

"Is that why he has his separate room from his wife? To keep him from getting viral diseases?" Tom asked after he shifted his position and faced Jayson.

Jayson glanced at him and smirked before his gaze returned to the party. "No, Uncle Tom. They have been like that ever since they got married almost three years ago. After Avery was born and Aunt Ava died."

Jayson faced him and smiled, "They only got married on paper to fulfill Aunt Ava’s dying wish. At that time, Uncle Ash was sick too. Avery will be an orphan like me and Jena if Uncle Ash does not re-marry before he dies."

Tom was once again stunned and just stared at Jayson who had more to say. If his shock for the day can be converted into gold, he is surely rich by now.

"Aunt Amy and Uncle Ash love each other as friends. Aunt Amy smiles in public, but you will hear her crying in her room. Even though Aunt Ava and Uncle Ash did not get married, his love for his fiance did not change. He is looking forward to meeting her again and is complacent that Avery is in good hands with his best friend."

Tom’s eyes started to well up with Jayson’s touching story. But he gathered all his strength to clear the emotions that were brewing in his heart.

"You’re family’s life story is confusing... So if they are just friends, then who is the father of the twins?" Tom stammered trying to make sense of it.

To his surprise, Jayson chuckled, "You are not so smart anymore, Uncle. I think the fire melted your brain as well. You will figure it out soon, I’m sure. And when you do, please go back to your family. You have to fulfill your promise. Plus, they miss you a lot." Jayson smiled once more before he ran back to the party, and left Tom completely flabbergasted.

’Does he know?’ Tom asked himself.
