Chaos and Order - A Multiverse Fanfic-Chapter 969: Consequences - The Bloodline Curse! (II)
Ubuyashiki Mansion,
Verse Fusion Demon Slayer
With a gust of wind, in pristine white clothes, Kai appeared in the graveled garden of the mansion, facing away from the wooden veranda.
This was the place where the Hashiras usually gathered whenever the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps called a meeting.
Presently, the sunlit day was as beautiful as it could get.
There was a light breeze, with the air full of the chirps of birds.
The branches of wisteria, bonsai, and a few other trees beyond the graveled garden swayed left and right, their leaves singing along with the birds.
Suddenly, children came running, laughing as they chased each other.
Kai turned around to look at them.
There were four of them, all dressed in traditional Japanese attire.
Hinaki, Nichika, Kuina, and Kanata — the four daughters of the Ubuyashiki family. Then there was Kiriya, the only son, chasing them all with a demon mask on his face.
The moment they came barging out from the other side of the mansion, their eyes landed on the man standing so peacefully in the graveled garden.
Slowly, the demon mask on Kiriya’s face slid off, revealing his face.
As if that was the cue, smiles, as large as children’s could show, surfaced on their faces.
"Uncle Kai!"
The five children ran up to Kai and began levitating as he used Telekinesis on them.
Laughs, louder than ever, filled the atmosphere, catching more attention.
Before the Demon Slayers guarding the mansion could appear, someone else walked out onto the veranda.
"Miss Amane," Kai nodded toward the woman.
Amane Ubuyashiki bowed. "He has been waiting for you..."
Of course... Kai thought, Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s foresight once again astonishing him. Nothing passed through that ability... Even now...
His Luck had soared to 200 points.
He had become capable of conspiring against fate itself.
Yet, as if Luck and Fate had nothing to do with Foresight, the Leader of the Demon Slayer Corps could still see him coming.
That... was not good.
Not at all.
Kai put down the children and followed Amane to Kagaya’s personal chamber.
And the moment she slid open the door, he smelled death.
Surrounded by candles, on a woolen mat, Kagaya was lying on his back, covered in bandages. A blackish-purple color had taken over his natural, pale skin tone, rotting him from within.
This was the price of an ability that could predict even the appearance of an eldritch entity!
The Ubuyashiki family suffered from a bloodline curse.
Kai had studied the curse extensively, buying millions of Mission Credits’ worth of data from the Primordial Tower Trade Market.
There was no cure for this curse, other than Muzan’s death.
Not because the curse was directly related to the Demon King, but because it was karmic in nature.
That’s why male members of the Ubuyashiki family barely reached the age of thirty, succumbing to the curse.
The same was happening to Kagaya as well.
Not to mention, in the original timeline, the Leader of the Demon Slayer Corps had already died by now, exploding himself, his wife, and two of his daughters, when Muzan had found the Ubuyashiki mansion.
Even if the explosion hadn’t killed him, Kagaya would have barely survived a few more days.
In the Verse Fusion timeline, forget the chronology and nature of the events, even the time had surpassed that of Kagaya’s death in the original timelines.
Even though the Verse Fusion timeline had nothing to do with the Demon Slayer Bubble, it was still based on it.
So, it was only natural that the current head of the Ubuyashiki family died now, passing on the curse to his son.
Kai also couldn’t have that. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"Do I look that bad?" Kagaya asked, carrying an amusement in his voice.
Kai let out a breath and walked in, Amane taking a seat next to her husband.
"Have you visited her already?" Kagaya asked, mentioning Shinobu.
"No," Kai replied, coming to a stop next to the man’s bandaged head. "Four months have passed. If I visit her without a gift, you can bet she will poison the dinner..."
Kagaya let out a low chuckle. "That’s true... Still... Visiting the woman who’s carrying your child is more important than giving company to a dying man..."
Kai smiled at that.
Then, suddenly, his smile died.
"Have you noticed?" Kai asked.
"... So you have noticed it, too," Kagaya remarked, his voice losing all humor. "You have become strong. Again."
Kai shook his head. "Not strong enough, it seems..."
Kagaya nodded slightly, understanding the meaning. "The fate of the world feels — blocked to my senses," he admitted. "The only reason I could see you coming was that you stuck out like a thumb..."
There was only one reason behind Kagaya’s broken ability to foresee everything failing.
The Timeline had made its move!
Kai’s eyes narrowed. "Muzan is getting stronger," he admitted. "We don’t have much time. A year perhaps..."
Kagaya’s breath broke, and Amane’s face lost all color.
"How... how do you know?" the Leader of the Demon Slayer Corps asked.
"As you said," Kai replied, "I have become strong."
With ever little rise in his strength, the Verse Fusion Bubble, and its Characters, would keep becoming stronger as well. If the Timeline hadn’t personally blocked Kagaya’s abilities, then it could have surpassed all limits by now.
For the first time, Kagaya’s head shifted, as if he was looking right into Kai’s eyes. "I see..."
A silence lingered between the three of them before a helpless chuckle broke it.
"I never thought I would become useless near my end," Kagaya mumbled.
"Dear," Amane put her hand on her husband’s hand. "You are not..."
"Indeed," Kai said, cutting her off. "You have become useless..."
Amane’s head snapped up.
No one had seen anger on her face.
Even now, her face carried no emotion.
Alas, Kai didn’t need to see an emotion to know its presence.
"... and as you have already become useless," he continued, a vial of potion appearing in his hands. "What’s the harm in losing your foresight to... end the curse?"
Silence.
Amane couldn’t take her eyes off Kai.
Not only her, but even Kagaya also faced him as if he had regained his vision.
"You — are not joking..." Kagaya worded, sensing Kai’s emotions.
"With Miss Amane here?" Kai’s mouth twitched. "I have every intention of leaving this place alive, you know."
The two major storyline Characters looked at him, dumbstruck.
"That’s..." they said together, their voices breaking. "... impossible."
And Kai smiled from the bottom of his heart, pouring the potion that he, Mayuri, and Orochimaru had prepared using the Upper Moons’ blood, right over the dying man.
"Nothing Is Impossible..." the Demon King said, stretching out his hand. "... Not in this — Room!"
