Chef at the University Canteen-Chapter 494 - 278: Why Not Hire Her as the Boss’s Secretary?
"This person is pretty good. Got their senior chef certification at 24, is currently the head chef at a restaurant, and even wrote their purpose for applying clearly—they want to come to the Seventh Dining Hall to learn skills!"
"Tsk tsk, how come there’s even a female chef? That’s rare! The résumé looks quite impressive, not only has she worked in cold dishes but also in hot dishes. Such extensive experience, remarkable!"
"This one... this intermediate chef doesn’t seem to have any specialties, nor any eye-catching experience, better skip this one!"
"Applying for an apprentice position? Didn’t even read the job advertisement properly, eliminated!"
"Huh! What on earth is this? We are hiring chefs, and this person sends a résumé applying for a programmer position—what’s that all about? Completely ridiculous!"
"..."
Seventh Dining Hall, in a private room on the first floor.
Jiang Yu and Lu Shuwu were sorting through a large stack of résumés, carefully screening them one by one.
Jiang Yu was quite calm, sipping tea while sifting through the résumés, placing the suitable ones on the sofa and the unsuitable ones directly on the coffee table.
Lu Shuwu, on the other hand, was much more excited, mumbling continuously while reading the résumés. Occasionally, when spotting a decent application, he couldn’t help but make some comments.
Of course, among these over a hundred résumés, the majority were ineffective, merely causing trouble.
The so-called "ineffective résumés" obviously refer to those that clearly do not meet the job requirements.
For instance, the job advertisement clearly stated that Seventh Dining Hall was hiring chefs, yet many people, adopting a try-it-and-see attitude, still sent résumés for "apprentice" or "waiter" positions.
Among them, there were quite a few girls wanting to apply as "waiters" for the Seventh Dining Hall, with most of them attaching personal photos at the end of their résumés.
This piqued Lu Shuwu’s interest, often eliciting a lecherous "hehe" laugh:
"Boss, boss, take a look at this! This girl is really something, tall and leggy, fair-skinned and beautiful, with quite an impressive figure!
I think maybe waitressing isn’t quite right for her. How about hiring her as your secretary instead?"
"I think it’s time to find a girlfriend to keep you in check."
Jiang Yu glanced at him and said blandly,
"When I visit your family’s elder this August, I’ll make sure to bring this up. I reckon he’d love to become a great-grandfather."
"Hey, boss, don’t do that! I haven’t had enough fun yet, I don’t want to find a girlfriend so soon!"
Upon hearing this, Lu Shuwu’s face changed suddenly, quickly smiling and saying,
"I was just joking with you, alright? I won’t say another word, is that okay?"
For a while afterward, Lu Shuwu indeed became much more reserved, focusing on sorting through the résumés without the previous theatrics.
The two of them busied themselves for nearly two hours to finish reviewing the large stack of résumés on the coffee table.
Out of all those résumés, only about thirty actually met the basic requirements of the job advertisement.
"Ah, finally done going through them!"
Lu Shuwu tossed the last résumé in his hand onto the rejected pile, breathed a long sigh of relief, got up from the sofa, stretched vigorously, and shook his head while sighing,
"Seeing this thick stack of résumés, I thought there were that many chefs applying. Turns out there were so many just filling in the numbers, completely wasting our time."
"We are only hiring two or three chefs in total. After filtering, there are still about thirty people left, and I feel even that is too many."
Jiang Yu also sighed, picked up the already cooled tea from the coffee table, took a big sip, smacked his lips, and said,
"There’s still a few days until the application deadline. I guess we’ll receive quite a few more résumés, and we’ll see if there are any more suitable ones then.
After that, we need to further refine these preliminarily selected résumés, keeping just about ten people, and then gather them for an interview."
Lu Shuwu paused for a moment, instinctively asking: "Refine them again?"
"Of course."
Jiang Yu turned to look at him, saying,
"Having too many people is not manageable, and when people come all the way over only not to get hired, it’s a minor waste of their time but it can affect their jobs.
Many applicants are currently employed, and we need to ask them first—if they get the job, how soon can they start? Some restaurants or hotels might not even agree to let them go, dragging things out will be a hassle."
"That’s true."
Lu Shuwu thought for a moment, then asked, "What criteria should we use for further screening?"
"This is what I think: even though chef turnover is common in the culinary industry, I think no matter what industry, no boss would want to keep hiring new people frequently, and I’m the same way."
After a brief thought, Jiang Yu said seriously,
"So, for further screening, we can exclude those with résumés that show frequent job-hopping.
Also, applicants whose sole purpose is to improve their personal skills can be directly excluded. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to learn cooking skills, but I’m not as selfless as they imagine, and the Seventh Dining Hall is not a culinary school. Those wanting to solely learn skills should not come."
