Chronicle of the 70s-Chapter 343 - 330: Second Military Transfer Update
Qin Xi’s transfer order was approved quickly, issued in early June, allowing him to report in July.
Moreover, Li Xianglu submitted her job transfer report in mid-May, with Mr. Li’s assistance the response came quickly. It was quite coincidental that the county was in dire need of personnel and had already requested the headquarters to arrange for staff.
Thus, when Li Xianglu’s transfer request came through, she was directly assigned a director position.
Based on Li Xianglu’s qualifications, although she had repeatedly achieved merit and her business capabilities were outstanding, she was only a bit over twenty-four years old—we would normally expect her to wait until she was twenty-seven or twenty-eight.
However, things were different in the county. The level was different and, given the extraordinary circumstances, an extraordinary response was called for. After all, there was a genuine lack of talent there, so her being a high-achieving graduate from Shoudu University, it was reasonable for her to serve as a director.
Once her transfer was confirmed, Li Xianglu stopped going to work, spending her days at home packing and playing with her two children.
Su Yan and Xu Wu, both American citizens, could enter Hong Kong just with their passports, so they headed straight to Shanghai by plane and then took an oil tanker to Hong Kong, saving quite a bit of time.
With Xu Wu away, Da Li and Qin Xi, who was on vacation, handled the business.
Both Qin Zhen and Li Jianqing finally took their leave; a one-month vacation, and everyone returned.
June’s weather had just started heating up, and the fruits planted by Mr. Li in the yard were ready to be eaten.
Li Xianglu prepared a pot filled with pig’s trotters, tendon meat, flower knotted tofu skin rolls, eggs, pig tongues, pig intestines, and some pig liver.
Then, Sister Xing washed two basins full of dough and Hu Zi directly set up the gas stove and a large square table under the yard’s shed.
The two steamed over seventy sheets of dough before stopping.
Old Geng and Leng Qing, who went to pick up people from the train station, also just entered the house.
Having mentioned beforehand, Anna Lu came directly after work with her kids, so Qin Zhen directly returned to the courtyard house, his personality unchanged.
As soon as he entered, not even putting his backpack down, he rushed to the square table, reached into the pot, grabbed a piece of intestine and stuffed it into his mouth, chewing while his eyes rounded: "Wow, this is so delicious, I’m about to starve."
Li Xianglu, annoyed, came forward and slapped away his hand reaching into the pot again, saying: "Go wash your hands, you’re an adult now, how can you still be so unruly, your two nephews are watching."
Only then did Qin Zhen notice that at the round table nearby sat two kids also stuffing their mouths with food. He put down his bag and, fascinated, reached out to touch one of them, but the little guy, thinking someone was trying to steal his food, smacked Qin Zhen’s reaching hand.
Qin Zhen was taken aback for a moment, then his eyes widened, but the child wasn’t frightened at all and glared back, quickly stuffing all the remaining meat in his hand into his mouth.
Watching amused, Li Xianglu said helplessly: "He thought you were trying to steal his food."
Qin Zhen then turned to look at the other one; Ba Yi found this odd uncle strangely endearing and extended the meat in his hand forward.
Qin Zhen took it from his hand, took a bite, and Ba Yi, not crying but staring with wide eyes, amused Qin Zhen even more. His Minmin likes to pretend generosity; she offers her favorite food, but the moment you actually take a bite, she bursts into tears. So seeing Ba Yi’s true generosity really entertained him.
Li Xianglu couldn’t help but shake her head helplessly and handed her sons two pieces of meat the size of quail eggs. This uncle was beyond help, not even sparing the little bit in his nephew’s hand.
After washing his hands, Li Jianqing came over and started playing with the two kids. Leng Qing was in a particularly good mood and helped Li Xianglu adjust the soup and mashed garlic.
Just as everyone was having a great time in the yard, Lu Anna arrived. Li Xianglu checked the time; it was only 5:30 PM. It seemed she had left work early.
As soon as she entered, Qin Zhen embraced his wife and daughter. Lu Anna, usually so strong-willed, immediately teared up. Minmin, now a two-year-old girl, seeing her mother cry, also started crying.
Li Xianglu quickly calmed them both down. Dinner consisted of cold skin noodles and various braised meats; Sister Xing was worried it wouldn’t be enough, so she heated up some meat-filled buns.
At around 6:30 PM, everyone sat under the pavilion. Qin Zhen announced publicly that he was planning to move with his wife and daughter, applying for a military family house. Lu Anna would also work in finance locally, and since Minmin was two, she could attend the military unit’s childcare class.
At this point, Li Xianglu couldn’t help looking at Leng Qing; she had known about Lu Anna moving with the army, but what about Leng Qing?
Then Leng Qing smiled and said, "I plan to go with Brother Qin to the county, take care of the twins and see what else I can do there."
Hearing this, Leng Qing glanced at Li Xianglu, who somewhat embarrassingly said: "We have caused you trouble."
Li Jianqing gently patted Leng Qing on the shoulder and told his sister, "I still haven’t received approval to move with the army, so for now, it’s just Leng Qing staying with Anna. It’s a bit troublesome for Anna; please take good care of her." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
So that was it. Li Xianglu smiled and said her brother was too polite.
Mr. Li’s appetite had dwindled with the hot weather, coupled with Su Yan’s move to Hong Kong. Feeling lonely, he’d eaten very little these past few days. Today with the children back and discussing amusing military training stories, Mr. Li managed to eat a bowl of cold skin noodles, a bun, and some meat before he patted his belly, wanting to walk off the meal.
Qin Xi entered at 8 PM. Li Xianglu prepared a bowl of cold skin noodles for him and added some freshly cut meat to his bun.
However, having already eaten his fill, Qin Zhen sat down again, chatting and occasionally taking a few more bites with his chopsticks.
Li Xianglu shook her head in resignation and refilled the plate with some meat and sausages.
The brothers, having discussed military matters extensively and satisfied, each went back to their rooms, while Li Jianqing and Leng Qing headed straight back to their compound.
Qin Zhen and Lu Anna stayed the night, planning to visit the Lu Family for a couple of days thereafter. Meanwhile, they were also scheduled to dine at Mr. Qin’s place; Qin Zhen hadn’t been back to the capital since Mr. Qin’s return, making it three years since father and son had last seen each other.
Back in the bedroom, Qin Xi, holding a grumpy Ba’er, and Li Xianglu, holding a well-behaved Ba Yi, placed the kids directly on the bed. Ba’er continued his loud grumbles, and Li Xianglu, annoyed, smacked his bottom twice and pointed outside saying, "It’s dark now, time to sleep!"
Receiving a sharp smack on the bottom from his mother, Ba’er burst into loud tears.
Qin Xi, seeing this, didn’t interfere and simply took Ba Yi to bathe.
Originally, the three kids were playing together. As bedtime arrived, and considering it had been a while since the couple had time alone to talk, Ba’er stubbornly clung to Minmin, refusing to let go and insisting on continuing to play. Frustrated, Li Xianglu handed the child over to Qin Xi to carry back; the child grumbled the whole way.
