Chapter 380: Chapter 357: Resolution

In early May, Liu Huahua and Chen Zhong, who had significantly recovered, were sent away overnight to Gu Niannian’s grandfather’s house.

This was the result of a discussion between Qin Xi and Gu Niannian’s father.

The old man lived in his ancestral village, raising pigs and farming. When he was free, he would come to visit his grandson and old comrades. His house was spacious, and the area was quite remote.

Before leaving, Chen Zhong went to Guizi Port and left some money as a down payment, claiming it was for the purchase of sorghum. He said he would return to buy the sorghum at the end of the year. He temporarily could not stay in the village because he was genuinely scared.

This news greatly disappointed the villagers. They didn’t expect Chen Zhong to be so timid, but they still planted the sorghum as he instructed.

The money was privately lent to Chen Zhong by Li Xianglu. She wanted him to hide for a while to ease the intensity against him. Since Chen Zhong was leading this matter, there was a possibility that they wanted to silence him just in case.

Shortly after sending Chen Zhong and Liu Huahua away, those two people showed up again. As previously discussed, Qin Xi told them that the two had secretly left, which was quite odd.

The visitors were suspicious, but since Qin Xi had taken so much of their money, he had to bear some risks, so they left.

Three days after those people left, Xu Wu came with four unremarkable-looking men and women. These people didn’t look strong like Da Li but seemed the type you wouldn’t recognize in a crowd.

The old man was quite pleased. Now there were people to help turn over the soil at home.

Xu Wu stayed for two nights and sneakily drove back. He couldn’t bear to leave openly since the two little ones were crying heartbreakingly.

Even so, when the little ones found out he was leaving, they cried terribly too. Li Xianglu, infuriated, smacked their little butts hard several times, but they cried nonetheless.

Li Xianglu was beside herself with anger and scolded, "Cry, cry, cry! Tomorrow I’ll send you both off to your uncle!"

To this, the children actually stopped crying. Ba’er, with a face as small as a kitten’s, asked pitifully, "Send us to uncle? Really?"

Li Xianglu was annoyed, thinking that having these children was a waste! They got so happy upon hearing they’d be sent away.

Su Yan, amused, suggested, "How about I go live in the capital with your grandfather for a while? You and your husband could have some peace for some time."

Li Xianglu felt a bit reluctant, but the unresolved issue with Chen Zhong made her anxious, so she agreed.

However, when it was time to leave, seeing that both their parents and even Li Xianglu, who usually followed them, were not going, the children started crying again.

Gu Niannian was also crying. Seeing this, Li Xianglu thought it might be possible to take Gu Niannian with them. It was not the New Year, and after going there, Minmin would be there too. The children could play together in a courtyard, which wouldn’t be too bad.

After consulting with Zhu Hong, Gu Niannian packed a small bag and was sent to the capital.

Now, the house finally quieted down. Li Xianglu was initially not accustomed to the silence when she returned home in the first few days, but gradually, she found the tranquility soothing. She would call the capital daily to check on the twins, who seemed quite happy and well-adjusted, except for Ba’er occasionally complaining that his brother was bullying him. Hence, Li Xianglu slowly set her mind at ease.

Time flew by, and in July, Li Xianglu and Qin Xi secretly visited Chen Zhong. Surprisingly, Liu Huahua was pregnant, already over a month along—a blessing indeed, as calamity spared her life.

Chen Zhong was initially restless, but became much calmer and steady after chatting with the old master of the Gu Family.

Not long after returning to the county, Li Xianglu heard rumors of many arrests in a neighboring county.

Qin Xi was highly conscientious about Li Xianglu’s safety, arranging for the two remaining household members to chauffeur her to and from work daily if he was unavailable.

Unexpectedly, Li Xianglu was indeed being followed, with someone even stationed outside her bank. The bank’s security notified Chairman Xu immediately, who mistook it for a bank robbery attempt and called the police.

Several men were arrested. These were unlucky, as they had only intended to kidnap Li Xianglu, but couldn’t clarify the misunderstanding of attempting a bank robbery, especially with tools like ropes and knives in their vehicle. The police treated it as a major case, and it was soon revealed that these men had planned to kidnap Li Xianglu and were linked to the cases in the neighboring county.

Two months later, in September, the case became clear. From top to bottom, the leadership in the neighboring county was entirely replaced, and virtually everyone in the banking system was changed, including hospital directors and financial officers - a significant purge.

The news spread far and wide, revealing that an entire county had been taken over, from the government to the banks, and to hospitals, with nobody resisting.

Moreover, some top provincial leaders and even a few from the capital were implicated. However, the significant figures in the capital remained silent, but the Lu Family meticulously recorded those involved.

After clearing out the malignant tumor, everything brightened considerably. Li Xianglu called the capital, hoping the elders and children could return. The old master and Su Yan, missing Li Xianglu as well, immediately agreed.

A week later, the same modified minibus brought a group of passengers, including Minmin.

On inquiring, Li Xianglu learned that Lu Anna was already six months pregnant, her belly notably large, and had gone to Hong Kong early, accompanied by Mrs. Lu, which is why Minmin was brought along.

Minmin burst into tears upon seeing Li Xianglu, reminding her of her mother. Li Xianglu quickly retrieved a plush bear from her Storage Ring, a relic from her past life, to comfort Minmin.

Minmin’s tears turned into laughs, inadvertently causing jealousy in Ba Yibao. They felt aggrieved that their mother hugged Minmin first and ignored them.

Helplessly, Li Xianglu put Minmin down and embraced her two sulking sons, soothing them and giving each a plush dog, and one to the eager Gu Niannian as well.

The four children happily compared their plush toys. Li Xianglu was bewildered, having always thought that only girls liked plush toys; apparently boys loved them too.

Seeing this, Su Yan suggested with a smile, "Why not get a dog for the home?"

Li Xianglu frowned, considering if it was appropriate since the kids were still young. Hearing Su Yan’s suggestion, the old master, who had just washed his hands and joined them, agreed, "Let’s get two, so they can both have a companion to play with."
