Chapter 385: Chapter 362

Li Xianglu turned around at the sound and saw Chou Xue, who had been preparing to come up behind her, suddenly collapse on the ground.

By this time, the room was filled with thick smoke, and Li Xianglu was utterly exhausted. A security guard rushed over and jumped through the window, soon helping the unconscious Chou Xue out, and then followed himself.

By then, the area surrounding the bank was crowded, and everyone had buckets in their hands, throwing water at the severely burning front door.

Li Xianglu felt pain in her legs and dizziness, but still managed to glance at the locked rear door, which was locked from the outside.

At that moment, Li Xianglu heard a familiar voice—it was Qin Xi arriving, along with a large group of people. Li Xianglu, along with the unconscious and some injured security guards, were taken to the county hospital.

Li Xianglu’s calf had been struck by a heavy object, causing a minor fracture and abrasions in various parts of her body, including her face.

Qin Xi’s expression was tense as he watched the doctor examine Li Xianglu. Seeing that there were no serious issues, his expression eased slightly. Li Xianglu had a minor fracture, and the doctor suggested that it be cast and fixed for a few days, recommending at least a month of rest.

Chairman Xu also arrived soon after; pale-faced, he greeted Qin Xi first before inquiring about Li Xianglu’s condition. Relieved that no lives were lost, he remarked, "It was really close. I heard you tripped? Chou Xue saved you?"

Li Xianglu, receiving an IV for inflammation, nodded in response to Chairman Xu’s questions: "Yes, I was pushed by someone. When I tried to get up, my calf was hit by something hard and I couldn’t get up."

Upon hearing this, Chairman Xu’s expression turned grave: "These three security guards are no match for a single girl like Chou Xue, who still knew to save her own colleague in times of danger. These guys, on the other hand, ran first, totally disregarding the lives of others."

Li Xianglu remained silent, prompting Chairman Xu to add, "The fire is out, and we are investigating the cause. However, the bank’s damage is minimal as all important items were locked in the underground storage. You should rest well, but you can’t leave immediately—you need to wait until the investigation and questioning are done here."

Chairman Xu turned to Qin Xi with an apologetic look.

Qin Xi nodded, "Chairman Xu, don’t worry, I’ll handle things here."

After escorting Chairman Xu to the hospital room door,

Qin Xi returned to find Li Xianglu staring blankly at her leg, deep in thought.

Qin Xi approached, took off his shoes, squeezed in beside her, and wrapped her in a comforting embrace. "It’s alright, stop overthinking, it’s good that you’re safe."

Li Xianglu, feeling the warmth of Qin Xi’s embrace, relaxed her stiff back, leaning into his chest, then finally raised her head and asked, "Qin Xi, do you believe me?"

Qin Xi frowned slightly, "What are you talking about? What happened exactly?"

Li Xianglu chose her words carefully: "This incident is a bit strange. I was just behind Chou Xue, and as I was about to run, I was pushed."

Qin Xi’s expression grew cold: "Are you saying, that Chou Xue pushed you?"

Li Xianglu shook her head, "I didn’t see. The power was cut off, and then I thought about it—Chou Xue was actually beside me, not at the position that pushed me."

Qin Xi paused, "Then could you have tripped over something?"

Li Xianglu shook her head, "No, I wasn’t tripped by an object, I was pushed by someone."

Qin Xi furrowed his brow thoughtfully: "Afterwards, Chou Xue helped you up, and then she took you to the chairman’s office, letting you leave first?"

Seeing Li Xianglu nod, Qin Xi continued, "Yet she fainted because of the heavy smoke and got hurt while saving others?"

Li Xianglu nodded again.

Both husband and wife fell silent; if Chou Xue had planned this, what was her ultimate aim?

Because Li Xianglu needed to be observed overnight before leaving, Sister Su brought meals. Chou Xue, as Li Xianglu’s lifesaver, also received warm care from Qin Xi and his wife, who brought her meals.

Chou Xue woke up an hour after the meals were delivered; fainting due to thick smoke, she too had some abrasions and needed overnight hospital observation.

Qin Xi personally delivered the meals; Chou Xue was delicate and pretty. Qin Xi courteously thanked her; however, she spoke little and appeared shy.

After delivering the meals, Qin Xi came out with a very grim expression.
