Chapter 415: Chapter 415: I Love Him Very Much

Ruby Sullivan was suddenly struck into silence by his question, watching the faint smile emerge in his eyes, feeling a sense of unease as though her thoughts had been seen through. She turned her gaze away, stubbornly saying, "You’re the father of two kids; worrying about you is only natural."

Ethan Sterling listened to her clumsy excuse and sighed, "Ruby Sullivan, is admitting you love me such a hard thing to say?"

Ruby Sullivan frowned, staring at the slippers on her feet, "Go away, I’m tired."

"Are you still meeting that man tomorrow?" Ethan Sterling stubbornly asked.

"Yes, he helped me out today." Ruby Sullivan explained awkwardly, regretting her words as soon as she spoke them. Why explain? Why tell him? Really absent-minded.

She furrowed her brows tighter, reminding herself to be cautious.

"I’ll come with you," Ethan Sterling said, turning around, "Remember to lock the safety lock behind you." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Ruby Sullivan was momentarily stunned, watching his back with a face of bewilderment — why was he coming along?

Ruby Sullivan didn’t know what kind of antics Ethan Sterling was going to pull tomorrow, it made her head hurt just thinking about it.

After falling asleep in a muddled state, she found herself in the restaurant where she would have dinner with T, and suddenly Ethan Sterling rushed out, pulling out a Walther PPK pistol like something from 007, aiming it at T’s head and saying, "I shall vanquish you in the name of the moon!" Just as Ruby Sullivan was dumbfounded, he pulled the trigger, and she jolted awake from her dream, her mouth dry, forehead covered in cold sweat.

She glanced at the time, it was only five o’clock, and she had slept for less than three hours.

Ruby Sullivan exhaled a long breath, drank two large glasses of water, wrapped in her pajamas, went to knock on Ethan Sterling’s door, and the guy quickly opened the door, his face filled with irritation which turned into a smile upon seeing her, "Can’t sleep?"

Ruby Sullivan pushed him, barged in, closed the door behind her, and said standing at the door, "You can’t come with me to dinner."

"Afraid I’ll be the third wheel?" Ethan Sterling asked with obvious displeasure, though his tone remained gentle.

He had just fallen asleep a little while ago, and the knocking had woken him up; it seemed there would be no more sleep tonight.

"We’re not even friends, there’s no need for you to overthink it."

Ethan Sterling raised his eyebrows, "Are you here to explain?"

"I’m here to notify you," Ruby Sullivan said angrily, turning to leave.

Ethan Sterling chuckled watching the door shut again. He certainly wasn’t going with her — would he be a clown if he did? He was simply expressing his jealousy, and had no idea she’d be so concerned about it.

Knowing her worry was for his safety, he felt a mix of happiness and unease in his heart.

The joy was because she cared a lot about him; the unease was because she saw him as so vulnerable.

Ethan Sterling did know a bit about this T guy, because after returning to his room, he called Vivian who had lived in Caelus for so many years, and should know more than him about such matters.

After Vivian shared what she knew, she quickly added, "Don’t mess with this guy."

He understood the weight behind his mom’s warning.

Ethan Sterling, at his age, although he disliked others being better than him, was used to others being better — in this world, who dares say they’re the best?

Of course, it wasn’t because he wanted to avoid confrontation with T that he wasn’t going; he just thought there was no reason to be so rude. This was also why last night he preferred waiting in the hotel lobby for her to come back instead of calling to ask where she had gone.

Making Ruby Sullivan reveal her whereabouts over the phone was something he believed he could easily accomplish.

After Ruby Sullivan returned, despite being tired and sleepy, she quickly fell asleep again but still didn’t rest well, having several similar dreams. Only Ethan Sterling was different each time.

In her dreams, Ethan Sterling performed various mixed roles, quite spectacular.

In the morning, Ruby Sullivan was brushing her teeth in front of the mirror, her mind still swirling with the dreams she’d had, utterly exhausted.

When she left, she specifically checked around the lobby, didn’t see Ethan Sterling, and after getting into the taxi, looked back several times, even asking the driver to confirm they weren’t being followed, finally letting out a long breath and feeling at ease.

She arrived a little ahead of the agreed time, ordered the meal in advance as a sign of courtesy.

She had no idea of T’s preferences but, based on his liking for Celestian cuisine, she decisively believed their tastes were somewhat similar and ordered what she thought was delicious.

Before long T arrived, in a black suit with a burgundy shirt, elegance tinged with a hint of wildness, coupled with his deep western face, it was a perfect fusion.

After a simple greeting, the two began dining, T was quite satisfied with the dishes Ruby Sullivan ordered, and as he ate, a smile replaced the once indifferent expression on his face.

"If you weren’t such an exceptional perfumer, I’d really want to hire you as my personal chef." T said with a smile.

"I’m glad you like it," Ruby Sullivan replied in a formal tone.

When it came to the desserts, she hesitated a bit, "Though I ordered two pieces of chocolate mousse, don’t feel obliged to eat it if you don’t like it, I can eat them all myself."

She guessed T wouldn’t be fond of sweet things given his personality, making this part particularly uncertain for her.

Upon hearing that, T smiled regretfully and said, "If you want two servings, you might need to order another because I love chocolate mousse."

Both of them laughed after that.

Ruby Sullivan felt the atmosphere was quite nice and, taking the risk of being a fool, said, "Though I’m divorced, I still love my ex-husband a lot."

T nodded, "I could tell; yesterday you were very apprehensive of him, like... if I had a gun in hand, you’d definitely stand in front of him."

Ruby Sullivan gave a shy smile, "Honestly, I don’t know if I could be that brave, but I hope he’s well." Watching his reaction, she understood he had no personal interest in her; his actions the previous night were likely due to knowing her previously and having a good relationship with L.

Though her words seemed obscure, gaining the information she sought was worth it.

After leisurely finishing the dessert, T said, "I really like you; the interest started while observing your perfuming skills, turning into genuine fondness after tasting your cooking. But L wouldn’t let me run off with you, so back then we had a duel, which I lost — it’s a shame. That kid’s fencing was quite impressive."

That kid... Ruby Sullivan didn’t know what to say, L was at least ten years older than him, wasn’t he?

After inwardly mocking the notion, she suddenly realized she was missing the point, but being able to speak openly probably meant it was in the past.

"When you left L and headed for Celestia, I thought of confessing, but you know my status, leaving Euronia isn’t easy, so hearing from Luna that you’d come over last night, I thought it was God’s arrangement. Hmm..." He pressed his lips into a thin line, smiled with a bit of loss and continued, "After meeting that man, I knew I truly had no chance this time. I wish you happiness, and if that kid L ever bullies you, I am willing to help."

Feeling her face heat up, Ruby Sullivan thought about the previous unpleasant news she faced back home, wondering if T knew about it too.

"I... am honored and grateful for your affection." Ruby Sullivan smiled, "Thank you." Being admired by such a gentleman was surely a joyous thing for any woman.

"You’re welcome." T shrugged, feigning nonchalance. "However, if there’s a chance for me to visit Celestia, you’d be willing to cook a meal yourself for me, right?"

"Of course."

After parting, T insisted on driving her back, but seeing her earnest refusal, he didn’t persist.
