Chapter 281: Hu Fei

Lee Zhen Ren’s Residence.

Inside the residence, there were men dressed in their luxurious clothes, seated in the dining hall.

They were enjoying the food on the table and savoring the free flow of wine.

All of them had gathered here on the invitation of Ruo Zhi.

Being the representative of the Six Pulse Sword Sect here in Hong Feng City to protect it, she had arranged for such a gathering for a purpose.

The Governor favored her over the Qing Feng Sect, and she wanted to take advantage of it.

She had invited all the clans and families in Hong Feng City for this dinner gathering.

It would help her gauge the support she would be able to get from them if she made her move on the Sima Family and Qing Feng Sect.

Several of them came and others didn’t.

Those clans and families who didn’t were people like Lin Xuan Qi.

They were mostly factions that were close and worked with the Sima Family or Qing Feng Sect by proxy.

When she glanced at the heads of the clans and families being stuffed with food and tipsy with wine, she decided that the atmosphere was right.

"Thanks for attending the dinner." Ruo Zhi stood up and raised her hand with a wine cup to propose a toast to them.

They turned around and returned the toast with their cup of wine.

After they downed the wine in a mouthful, she went on and said, "As the appointed protector of Hong Feng City, I am more than willing to help you with your grievances.

"All of you are aware that the position of Magistrate is currently empty, and any disputes or issues can’t be resolved timely with the Governor being the one taking on the duty of the Magistrate.

"He is already busy with his administration of the city and handling such hassle isn’t as timely as it should be.

"I understand that it hinders your ability to operate your businesses.

"So, I feel that it would be my duty to help the Governor with it."

The heads of the clans and families glanced at each other, unsure of what she meant or wanted with what she had said.

Hu Fei, the head of the Hu Family, which was the second largest in Hong Feng City behind the Sima Family, stood up and asked, "If I may ask, how would you help?"

He was on the fence about the struggle between Qing Feng Sect and the Six Pulse Sword Sect.

And he wouldn’t mind to tip the scale over to the Six Pulse Sword Sect’s side if it would be advantageous to his family.

Ruo Zhi gave him a smile and said, "For example, with your businesses operating in Hong Feng City, I’m sure that there would be business disputes with the others."

She slowed and emphasized on ’the others’ while she completed her sentence.

Hu Fei gave her a smile and nodded his head, "And how would you help to resolve these disputes..."

"I will see to it that justice will be served and whoever breaks the law of the Da Qian Dynasty shall pay for it." She said with a clenched fist.

But that wasn’t too convincing for Hu Fei.

He shook his head and said, "What about those behind ’the others’?"

Ruo Zhi gave him a smile and said, "The Six Pulse Sword Sect will take care of them."

However, it wasn’t enough to convince Hu Fei.

The other heads of their clans and families also felt the same.

They lowered their heads and kept quiet.

Years of experience told them that Ruo Zhi isn’t thinking straight.

Hu Fei gave Ruo Zhi an awkward smile and said, "I guess right now, we don’t have much of any business disputes to be settled."

He glanced at the others and they nodded their heads and chattered in agreement.

"It’s been pretty smooth for me so far."

"Same for my clan’s businesses."

"Yeah, the Governor is pretty hardworking after the rebellion."

Ruo Zhi fumed inside when she saw and heard their response.

These sly old foxes... She grumbled to herself silently.

They wanted the spoils of battle without putting in any risks.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch in the world.

Ruo Zhi wasn’t too pleased with how it was going and she knew that she had to think of something later to force them onto her side.

She gave them a smile and said, "If that’s the case, I’m glad to hear that. Just remember that I’m here in case you encounter such grievances."

Hu Fei and the other heads of their clans and families cupped their hands at her.

"Sure, we will if something arises."

"I would be more than happy for your help."

"Hopefully, things would go smoothly for everyone in the future."

They replied with courtesy but deep down, they started to have doubts with their decision to come here on Ruo Zhi’s invitation.

Their confidence with her had lessened.

She was heavily underestimating what the Sima Family and Qing Feng Sect were capable of.

But Ruo Zhi was determined to change things around for the Six Pulse Sword Sect and she was already scheming for a better plan.

"In that case, it’s late and we should be going back."

Hu Fei and the other heads of their clans and families didn’t want to waste their time and they bid her farewell.

Leaving the messy tables with the leftovers behind, just like what Lee Zhen Ren did to her.

It irked her and the wine cup she had in her hand burst into smithereens.

"Senior martial sister..." Lee Qing came up to her and tried to calm her down.

Ruo Zhi closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

"Maybe we can start to create havoc first, they would join in if they see what we are able to do?" Lee Qing bowed and said.

"What do you have in mind?" Ruo Zhi glanced at her with a side-eye and asked.

"We can start with the weakest link among them."

"Weakest link?"

"The Lin Clan..." Lee Qing said and bowed to Ruo Zhi.

She was intrigued with how Lee He Song was so courageous to stand up to her even though he was just a martial art fighter.
