Chapter 786: Chapter 786: Ji Wei Really Wants to Reply with Two Words: Hehe

"Rest assured, this hotel is part of the Gu Family’s enterprise. We recently finalized a collaboration with the international luxury brand JK. Many of tonight’s guests are sponsored by them, and Mrs. Gu’s dress is one of their latest spring-summer designs."

Ji Wei’s gown clearly exuded extravagance, easily worth millions.

Ji Shanshan glanced at the light blue sequined gown Ji Wei was wearing, then, with a trace of haughtiness, she finally relented, "Alright, I’ll go with you."

As her words fell, she turned, intimately patted William’s chest, and playfully fluttered her lashes, saying, "Darling, I’ll come as soon as I change my clothes. Wait for me, okay~"

William smiled and nodded.

Ji Shanshan strode confidently ahead, her chest proudly up, while the staff followed closely behind her with cautious attention as she exited the banquet hall.

Meanwhile, Chen Ke swiftly maneuvered through the crowd and leaned in to whisper a few words into Gu Moqian’s ear.

In Gu Moqian’s deep gaze, a flicker of chilling sharpness surfaced. He gave a faint nod. "Proceed as planned."

"Understood." Chen Ke stepped back two paces and quickly faded into the crowd.

Once Ji Shanshan left, William refused to give up. Thick-skinned as ever, he approached Ji Wei again, obstructing her path.

"Miss Ji, why are you avoiding me tonight?" William raised an eyebrow, pretending to look puzzled and unaware.

This man’s face was practically as impenetrable as a city wall—and utterly oblivious!

Ji Wei ground her teeth quietly, unwilling to waste words on him, and coldly spat out two syllables, "Move!"

"You’re the birthday girl tonight, Miss Ji. I specifically prepared a gift for you. Would you like to open it and take a look?"

Despite Ji Wei’s frosty demeanor, William persisted, retrieving a luxurious purple velvet box from the pocket of his tailored trousers and presenting it to her.

Ji Wei didn’t even lift an eyelid.

"Apologies, I don’t accept gifts from strangers," she rebuffed sharply, with a mockingly polite smile.

William looked slightly taken aback before his grin returned. "Miss Ji, there’s no need to keep me at arm’s length, is there? I just want to be friends—nothing more."

Ji Wei very much felt like saying two simple words: "Ha. Ha."

"Being friends isn’t necessary. We won’t be seeing each other again, anyway." Ji Wei dismissed him mercilessly.

"Miss Ji, do you have some sort of misunderstanding about me?" William asked, his face showing genuine confusion. He was convinced he hadn’t done anything particularly off-putting, but why was Ji Wei so distant?

There are some people who simply fail to evoke any goodwill. From their very first meeting, Ji Wei had already excluded William from her social circle.

And yet this foreign man had an unrelentingly inflated sense of self.

"Coming to a banquet with a date, and still running around flirting—Mr. William’s character is... well, let’s just say it’s not quite to my taste. My apologies, I’ll take my leave now."

Ji Wei spoke coolly and decisively, unwilling to linger even a second longer.

Seeing her walk away, William immediately reached out his arm. But before his hand could even brush against Ji Wei’s fair wrist, another hand came out of nowhere and forcefully shoved him aside.

Ji Wei felt her slender wrist tugged, and the next instant, she stumbled into Gu Moqian’s broad chest.

The faint yet familiar scent of the man engulfed her senses. Looking up at Gu Moqian, who had suddenly appeared, Ji Wei’s delicate face lit up with a smile.

She lightly grasped the comfortable fabric of his suit sleeves with both hands and cheerfully called out, "Moqian."

Gu Moqian gently patted the back of her hand in acknowledgment. In the fleeting moment when his gaze fell, a tender warmth appeared in his dark eyes. Yet, as soon as he looked up at William, his stare turned noticeably colder, like an icy abyss.
