Clinging to Devoted Fiancé, Heiress Slays the World!-Chapter 790 He Actually Doubts Her Identity!
The birthday banquet ended at eleven o’clock at night.
After seeing off the guests and returning, the lively hall instantly fell silent. Balloons from the decorations still floated around the walls, and the floor was covered in the confetti remnants of a celebratory evening.
Ji Wei had just taken two steps inside when she abruptly stopped in her tracks.
William, dressed in a dark blue suit, leaned against one of the hall’s pillars, arms crossed as he watched the two of them leisurely.
"Mr. William hasn’t left yet—are you planning to stay the night?" Gu Moqian walked over, wrapping an arm around Ji Wei’s shoulder, his tone indifferent.
William raised an eyebrow and looked at Gu Moqian, replying, "My date has gone missing. How could I leave alone? As a man, that would be highly irresponsible."
"If someone’s missing, Mr. William should go look for her, not stand here," Ji Wei said, giving him a somewhat mocking look.
"I’ve looked, but I couldn’t find her."
William spread his hands, but his gaze lingered on Gu Moqian’s inscrutable expression. Suddenly, his words took a sharp turn, "Mr. Gu, perhaps... you know where my date might be."
Ji Wei found this amusing. "Why are you asking Mo Qian when you can’t find someone? Maybe your date has already gone home."
William smiled but didn’t answer, his eyes still fixed on Gu Moqian.
Gu Moqian remained expressionless and said, "I heard there was a woman causing a scene in the restroom. You might want to check if that’s the person you’re looking for."
William’s expression shifted slightly upon hearing this.
"Thank you for the tip, Mr. Gu. I won’t interrupt your alone time any further," William said before turning and striding quickly toward the restroom not far away.
As soon as William left, Gu Moqian took Ji Wei by the hand and led her away.
The door to the women’s restroom was tightly shut. William stood there, hesitating for a couple of seconds, then abruptly kicked the door open and stepped inside.
The restroom was eerily quiet. Faint sounds of a woman’s sobbing came from the innermost stall.
William walked straight over and pushed the stall door open.
Ji Shanshan, her clothing disheveled, was curled up in the corner, trembling uncontrollably. Her makeup was ruined by tears.
"Shanshan?" William exclaimed in shock, calling out to her.
Ji Shanshan lifted her head at the sound of his voice. She froze upon seeing him, then stumbled to her feet and threw herself into his arms.
She clutched tightly at William’s clothes, looking up with tear-streaked cheeks, and demanded bitterly, "Why didn’t you answer my calls? Where were you when I was being... raped? Why didn’t you come to save me!"
Ji Shanshan screamed and cried with a hoarse voice, her eyes filled with deep-seated fear.
William silently held her hands, staring at her for a long moment before speaking with an unnervingly calm tone, "Shanshan, tell me the truth. You didn’t lie to me, did you? You are really Aunt Zhao’s daughter..."
Ji Shanshan stared at him, tears frozen at the corners of her eyes, her eyes widening slightly in shock.
Panic surged in her heart, but she put on an extraordinarily aggrieved expression and defended herself, "Of-of course I’m her daughter! Didn’t you see the jade bracelet? That was the only keepsake my mother left me—it proves my identity!"
She had already been bullied to this extent, yet he was still doubting her identity!
Ji Shanshan was so angry she nearly broke into tears again. "William!"
With overwhelming grievance, she threw herself back into his arms and said through gritted teeth, "Do you know who did this to me? It was Gu Moqian! I swear I’ll make them pay for this!"
William looked at the nearly deranged woman in his arms and asked in a deep voice, "What do you want to do?"
Ji Shanshan bit her pale lips hard, a ruthless glint flashing in her eyes. Clutching his arm desperately, she pleaded, "William, you have to help me. Right now, you’re the only one I can depend on!"
