Chapter 26: School
"Are you sure it's you? You are not joking, are you?"
Dante didn't know what to say anymore. What will he get from joking about it?
"Of course, I'm not joking."
The reason they were doubting him was probably because he had a different hair color in that ID. It was his ID from last year. That time he bleached his hair to light blue, thinking it would make him look more cool. But the result, well, not worth mentioning. He even got scolded by the teachers.
Now he had his natural dark brown hair again.
By the way, he caught the two girls with them sneaking glances at him. If it was before, he would be thinking these two had a crush on him. But right after those traumatic experiences in the past where most girls in the school gave cold shoulders at him, plus the confession incident with Neneth, Dante just couldn't give a fuck about stupid love anymore.
As soon as they heard the dubious words of their companion, one of the girls stepped forward.
"Let me see," she said.
There were four of them. Two boys and two girls. But then again, he still had no clue why they needed to guard the gate.
Right after she took off her eyeglasses, she looked straight at Dante. He was taken by surprise when her eyes changed color to bluish. He did not expect this girl to be superhuman.
Seeing the people with her did not look as surprised as he did, he believed they were already aware of it, and maybe they were also the same as her.
Although his outer appearance didn't show any reactions, in his mind he was quite the opposite.
After the girl's eyes returned to normal brown, she said, "He's telling the truth. But he's a student on the other side." The way she said those words carried a hint of losing interest. Like she was disappointed by something.
'And what she meant by 'other side' by the way?' Dante thought suspiciously. Her ability was rather useful though.
The girl returned to the side of the other girl. But as soon as she stopped there, he heard them whispering, "What a waste of a handsome face."
'Could it be they were talking about me? Maybe they heard the rumor about me being a playboy.' Well. Never mind, he no longer cared about it.
"Uh-huh, so one of the useless ordinaries," said one of the two men. His words seemed to be mixed with sarcasm and disregard.
Dante slightly frowned as he wondered about his words.
"Come in fast before we change our mind," urged the other dude.
Dante was about to step inside the gate when suddenly he stopped and asked.
"Are you guys superhuman?"
"Ha? Of course, we are!" The expression on his face was seemingly saying, "Why are you even asking that?"
Upon hearing his reply, Dante fell into contemplation.
"What in the world is happening? Are superpowers as common as the names James, John, and Michael nowadays?" Dante mumbled in disbelief.
Although he said it in low volume, it seemed the people around him could still hear him.
Unfortunately, it happened that a person by the name of James was standing right behind him at that moment. With him were two other people. Their names were John and Michael.
Dante noticed the grim expression on the faces of the gatekeepers as they were looking behind him with faces that seemed like looking at a ghost.
"This idiot is done for..." mumbled one of them.
Out of curiosity, Dante looked behind only to see three pairs of glaring eyes.
"What? Did you need something?" He asked nonchalantly, wondering what these people's problems were. Why were they looking at him as if they wanted to devour him?
"What did you say about our names again?" A muscular man with a towering build asked him.
"Pardon?"

"Uhm, don't you know? These three are James, John, and Michael..." said one of the girls.
"What? Really?" Dante gawked.
The four guarding the gate nodded in unison.
"Uhm, I didn't mean to—" Out of a sudden, pem pow pow!
Thanks to his fast reflexes, none of the punches hit him. Before they could fly some punches again, he ran inside the campus.
It's better to escape than retaliate. He was at fault after all even though he didn't say it to intentionally mock them. But who would believe him in that situation? Anyway, he never thought of such a coincidence to happen. Unbelievable.
After that, Dante followed his plan. He went to the library to kill time while waiting for the break.
As soon as the break time started, he headed to his classroom. While he was walking in the corridor, he gathered glances from the students he encountered on the way. He even heard some of them asking "Who is he" or whether he was a transfer student.
When he entered the classroom, the same thing happened. He gathered his classmates' attention and most of them wondered who he was.
As soon as he sat on his desk, one of his classmates approached him and asked in surprise.
"Da—Dante? Is that you?"
He glanced to his side and frowned. "What kind of question is that, Creep?"
It was Sujin. His otaku classmate.
"Holy, Creep! It's really you. It's been a long time, but aren't you in a coma? When did you wake up?"
"Just yesterday."
"You just woke up yesterday and you're already here in school? Did the doctor not advise you to spend more time resting?"
"He did. But I know my body better than anyone, you see?"
"What a true sigma. You're built differently, huh? Oh, by the way, something in you looks more different than before, you know?"
"What, really? Well, I don't feel it."
"Bro..."
While the two continued talking, their classmates who heard their conversations looked bewildered.
"That's Dante? For real? He looks so different from before."
"Is it because he grew taller? That's why he looks more mature and handsome now?"
Without minding his classmates' conversation, Dante mentioned to Sujin what happened a while ago at the gate. Sujin was batshit laughing when he heard it.
"Puwahaha! Had that really happened to you a while ago?"
"Do you think I would lie about it?"
"Well. But man, you're lucky that it's not James Cheng who heard you say that."
"And who is this James Cheng again?"
"Well, he's a psycho who goes on beating people whenever he was pissed off."
"Sounds like a dangerous person."
"Haha! Yeah, I am dangerous, especially to someone who makes fun of my name and to those who call me psycho."
Suddenly, someone interjected in a voice carrying a peal of cold laughter.
Sujin quickly looked behind. "J-James!" His face lost all colors immediately.
James glared at them. "Bring these two to the usual place," he said to his companions.
Dante noticed they were surrounded.
'Fuck! I'm done for!' Sujin thought nervously.
