Suarez Mansion.

With the news of Luis and Alicia's return. David had rushed to the Suarez estate and was now sitting with Ronald and Lumine, drinking tea. From time to time, his eyes would drift towards the clock, expressing his anxious mood.

"Say, David," Ronald placed the cup back on the table. "I know you are excited to see Alicia. There's no need to be so anxious, right?"

"No, you don't understand, Ronald," Davis shook his head, his tone serious. "After Maria left us, Alicia has been withdrawn all these years. Finally, now, because of Luis, she has opened up a little. I'm worried—"

"You are worried she might revert to her previous self. Building that invisible wall again. Being wary of everyone. Is that it?" Lumine said, watching the variety of emotions on David's face.

"Yes…" David nodded with a heavy expression. "That is exactly what I'm worried about. Even with Luis' company, I don't know if the Academy's environment might affect her."

Lumine blinked, "Don't you call her to check on her situation?"

David sighed. "Raising a daughter is different from raising a son. Besides, Alicia's personality is just like that. If there's nothing important, she hardly makes a call. If I call for casual chatter, she will hang up in a few seconds."

Ronald and Lumine glanced at each other. They saw the same strange look in each other's eyes. Ronald hesitated, then asked after receiving Lumine's threatening glare.

"Um, if I may ask. When was the last time you called her?"

David recalled. "Two days ago, right after we returned from the expedition."

"What was the content and length of your conversation?" Lumine asked.

Although confused why she asked that, he answered honestly. "I said, [I'm back], She replied, [Ok], then hung up the call. About 3 seconds."

"…" Ronald and Lumine looked at David with sympathetic eyes and pity.

David didn't notice it because all his attention was now on the couple at the entrance. "Alicia!" He stood up with a smile.

Upon seeing his precious little princess after a while, made him both excited and happy.

Just then, Alicia showed a sweet smile and greeted them. "Hey, Mom~ Uncle Ronald." And added in an undertone. "Oh, Dad is here too."

*Crack*

David felt as if his heart cracked at that moment. He just stood there, frozen. His little princess barely gave him any attention. 'Am I so redundant?'

"Hello, Uncle David," Luis, who was ignored, spoke with a forced smile.

"It seems you are doing great." David nodded and patted his shoulder, pretending to be normal. As she sat back in his seat.

The stern expression on his face showed no emotion, but Luis, with his [Performer Talent], could easily see the sadness and envy hidden in his eyes when he looked at Alicia, Mom and Dad chatting happily like a true family.

Luis could very well relate to that feeling and empathise with him.

"Welcome home, Alicia," Ronald said with a smile.

"Come over, give your mom a hug?" Lumine spread her arms wide. Alicia also, without hesitation, went up and hugged her back.

"Well, did the trick work?" Lumine asked in a low voice.

"Mmm," Alicia nodded and replied, her voice barely a whisper. "He loved my cooking."

"Fufufu~ Guess that's good progress." Lumine glanced at Luis, her gaze filled with interest. She could see that something definitely happened between them; now she was itching to know.

Everyone in the room had keen hearing, so they all heard their conversation.

David's eyes widened as he gripped the armrest, turning it into dust. His breathing quickened, and his hateful gaze lingered on Luis.

'Alicia cooked for him??? WHY?! Even I, as her DAD, never got that chance! WHY HIM?! So what if he is my son-in-law?! I'm her Dad!!!'

No matter how much he complained in his heart, the fact wouldn't change.

Luis could see the obvious dissatisfaction on Uncle David's face, which he wasn't even trying to hide.

'Don't look at me as if I've committed a sin. I challenge you to give me the same reaction after actually eating your daughter's cooking.'

'And Mom. So, it was indeed you who gave Alicia the idea to cook! No matter what, you also need to have a taste then.' 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

With his [Performer Talent] in action, Luis started his plan to trap the three adults. 'Since I've suffered, don't blame me for being impolite.'

A wide smile appeared on Luis' face as he showed a surprised expression. "Oh! I didn't expect it was Mom who suggested Alicia try cooking."

"How was it, then? Isn't your mom awesome?" Lumine's lips curled up in satisfaction.

"Thanks, Mom. You've got no idea. Her cooking was full of flavour, especially made for me. Just ask her how deliciously I ate everything." Luis pointed at Alicia, who smiled back in response. Her expression was quite shy because of his praise.

"So amazing?" Ronald's eyes widened. As he looked at Alicia with curiosity in his eyes. "It seems Alicia is very talented at cooking. Barely cooking something edible on their first try is beyond good enough. But making something very delicious? It's very rare."

"Now I'm certainly curious. Alicia, can you cook for us sometime?" Lumine asked in a coquettish tone.

"No problem, Mom. How about I cook lunch?" Alicia raised her hands, quite ready for the chore.

David's wilted and resentful look turned to that of utter joy when he heard her words. So what if he can't try her first time cooking? He can try them now.

Ronald also showed a somewhat expectant look, wondering about the taste of his future daughter-in-law's cooking.

Only Luis had a stiff smile on his face. Which soon turned into schadenfreude.

'I've been through heaven and hell. So, I want to share the same joy and sadness with everyone.'

'Don't blame me, Mom. Although I truly want to thank you. My pain doesn't allow me.'

He thought of some random quotes, trying to lighten the guilt of tricking them. Still unaware of what fate awaits him.
