Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Mother Sinclair Tries to Persuade Maxim Sinclair Into a Marriage Alliance

At that moment, Maxim Sinclair strode in from outside, walked straight to the dining table, greeted the Huxley mother and daughter across from him, and then pulled out a chair to sit down.

Earlier, upon seeing guests at home, and those guests being the Huxley mother and daughter, Maxim Sinclair initially intended to turn and leave.

But after taking a couple of steps, his curiosity about his mother’s purpose this time piqued, so he changed his mind and turned back.

As soon as Maxim Sinclair sat down, before he even picked up his chopsticks, Mrs. Huxley opposite him started praising him from head to toe.

Once Mrs. Huxley finished speaking, Mother Sinclair, sitting to his right, reciprocated by praising Tina Huxley sitting directly across from him from inside out.

By this point in the conversation, Maxim Sinclair already understood his mother’s intention.

She had picked out a daughter-in-law for him and wanted to matchmake them!

He wondered where she got such courage.

According to his understanding of his mother, the Huxley mother and daughter must have done something to please her, likely giving her a gift that suited her tastes perfectly.

Based on previous experiences, Maxim Sinclair estimated the timing roughly.

Taking advantage of the lively conversation at the table among the three others, Maxim Sinclair sent a message to his assistant on his phone, instructing him to call in six minutes.

Seeing the conversation at the table shifting back to him, Maxim Sinclair subtly shifted the topic, his eyes flickering slightly, and started talking about the necklace on Mother Sinclair’s neck.

Mother Sinclair then mentioned the bracelet Tina Huxley gave her.

Maxim Sinclair smirked internally, casually picking up the call from Assistant Collins, and with an apologetic excuse that he had something to attend to, he got up and left the dining table.

Two minutes later, the engine sound at the door outside echoed again.

All three at the table knew that Maxim Sinclair had left by car.

Not wanting to lose face, Mother Sinclair chuckled awkwardly, "Maxim gets so busy that he neglects his meals. I’ve talked to him about it a lot, and he agrees readily, but once busy, he’s the same as always."

Mrs. Huxley chuckled cooperatively, "It’s understandable, Maxim is in charge of such a big company, he must be extremely busy, unlike us, having the leisure to sit down and eat slowly."

After the Huxley mother and daughter finished their meal, they didn’t stay long and left.

Mother Sinclair watched the Huxleys’ car drive away, stood dazed in front of the living room for a while, then went upstairs, changed into a formal suit, called for the driver, and headed to the Sinclair Group.

During the meal earlier, she had thought it over carefully.

For Maxim Sinclair, Tina Huxley indeed was a suitable marriage candidate.

After all, for Maxim, who was personally taught by Old Master Sinclair, no woman could be more important than his career.

That is also why Tina’s secret admiration for him had been unreciprocated for so many years.

Because Maxim Sinclair simply lacked that inclination, his eyes were solely on the Sinclair Group’s business.

Mother Sinclair gently rubbed the ring on her ring finger, reflecting on her strong-willed nature in her youth, the times she opposed Maxim’s father, and how she had neglected Maxim back then.

Even though Maxim was excellently raised by Old Master Sinclair, that excellence was solely career-focused.

Mother Sinclair wanted to use the opportunity of arranging a marriage for Maxim to ease their mother-son relationship.

Since all he cares about is work, she thought of arranging for him a wife who had him in her heart and whom she could manage, assisting from the side after marriage, hopefully improving their stiff and cold relationship over time.

Outside the CEO’s office.

Assistant Collins put down his work and greeted her in person, "Madam, you’re here."

Mother Sinclair stopped, maintaining her demeanor, and asked Assistant Collins, "Where’s Maxim? I noticed he didn’t eat much at lunch, so I specifically had the kitchen prepare his favorite soup and dishes to bring to him."

"President Sinclair is in a meeting inside the office with the company’s top executives, and the meetings are quite important, no one is allowed in before they conclude." Assistant Collins said, looking troubled.

"So you’re saying I can’t go in either?" Mother Sinclair was dissatisfied with his tone, her eyes disdainfully scanning him up and down, "Haven’t seen you in a while, Assistant Collins, you’ve certainly become more formidable!"

"I wouldn’t dare," Assistant Collins quickly pleaded, "Though I can’t go in, I can at least make a call to inform President Sinclair." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Then make the call."

Assistant Collins let out a long silent sigh, walked to the side secretary’s desk, picked up the receiver, and dialed the internal line, "President Sinclair, Mrs. Sinclair is here, she noticed you didn’t eat much at lunch and is worried about your health. She specially had the kitchen prepare your favorite foods and is worried you’ll forget to eat while busy, so she brought them over to watch you finish eating."

Inside the office, sitting alone on the sofa sipping a drink, Maxim Sinclair was silent for a while before saying to the person on the other end, "Accept the food and put it in the fridge; I’ll eat once I’m done with what I’m working on."

Mother Sinclair wanted to meet him personally to discuss the marriage, so she reached for the receiver, but Assistant Collins discreetly avoided her, lowering his voice, "Madam, President Sinclair still has several video conferences lined up, each one very important; he likely won’t open the office door for two or three hours. It’s a long wait, you might want to head back first? I’m afraid you can’t endure waiting so long."

"No matter how busy work is, one mustn’t neglect their health," Mother Sinclair, having come all this way, was reluctant to just leave like that, "Can you ask if he can find ten minutes before his meetings? I’ll watch him finish eating and then leave, otherwise I really can’t be at ease!"

As she was speaking, Assistant Collins passed over the receiver and explained awkwardly, "President Sinclair seemed to have hung up, he said they are discussing matters over there, no time to talk to me about this."

After saying that, Assistant Collins discreetly glanced around, secretly relieved. Luckily, President Jennings had summoned the assistants and secretaries away from the office entrance moments ago; otherwise, it truly would have been difficult to manage.

Mother Sinclair prided herself on her dignity.

If she had lost face in front of the secretaries outside the CEO’s office, it would have been disastrous for him.

While Mother Sinclair couldn’t do much to Maxim Sinclair, it would be easy for her to trip up a little assistant.

That experience was passed down from the previous assistant to the president.

"Alright then, it seems I won’t see him today. I’ll come back tomorrow. Now that I’m back in the country, I have plenty of time to come by and check on him eating every day."

Assistant Collins personally escorted her downstairs to the car and watched as it drove away.

Returning upstairs, Assistant Collins knocked on the door of the CEO’s office, approaching Maxim Sinclair who stood by the window, "President Sinclair, Mrs. Sinclair has left."
