Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 22: Sheryl Is Missing
"Whether there is a misunderstanding or not, your approach this time... is indeed a bit excessive. Normal girls can’t accept this, sir. Do you want to hire an expert to teach you how to pursue the girl you like?"
The butler watched his expression carefully and timidly suggested.
"Who said I’m pursuing her?" Maxim Sinclair sneered and flatly denied, "Uncle Owen, you’re mistaken. I’m not pursuing her; I’m punishing her. She became a director by stealing things from my side, shouldn’t I teach her a lesson?"
Uncle Owen, who had been working for the Sinclair Family since Maxim Sinclair was born, had always been around.
It could be said that Uncle Owen watched Maxim grow up, and he understood Maxim’s temperament very well, so he easily sensed that Maxim was being insincere.
Uncle Owen didn’t directly confront his thoughts: "But sir, keeping a young lady at your house without reason would damage your reputation if people find out."
"It’s fine, I don’t care about others’ opinions. I just want that little fox to know she shouldn’t have provoked me back then."
"Young girls sometimes act recklessly and make mistakes. It’s normal," Uncle Owen advised earnestly, "I think Miss Lowell is very frightened. If something happens because she’s scared, it won’t be good."
"Don’t worry, I won’t torment her to death." Maxim carefully folded his cuffs. "This is just the beginning. Summer Lowell isn’t that fragile. Besides, since she dared to come to my side as an undercover, she should have expected this outcome."
"If you keep going on like this, you might truly offend Miss Lowell, and it will be hard to win her back." Uncle Owen couldn’t help but remind.
Hearing this, Maxim instead laughed and gave Uncle Owen a confused look: "I said, I’m not chasing her. I just want to teach her a lesson."
Seeing him stubbornly refuse to admit his feelings, Uncle Owen didn’t dare to persuade further, fearing that more persuasion might lead Maxim to do something even more drastic.
Uncle Owen could only barely audible sigh: "The arranged taxi has already picked up Miss Lowell. Should we continue following?"
"Follow her," Maxim blew off non-existent dust from his sleeve, "It seems she has upset someone else. Notify the person following her to be careful and relay any news back promptly. I haven’t finished my revenge. Anyone else who wants to act against her must wait in line."
Watching him care about her in such a twisted way, Uncle Owen could guess what Maxim’s reaction might be once he became aware later on.
At the intersection, Summer Lowell, finally escaping, took a deep breath and with trembling hands, dialed Noah’s number.
On the other end, Noah seemed busy, letting the phone ring for a long time before picking up: "Hello, Director Lowell, how’s your recovery? Can you return to work today?"
"President Norris," at the sound of his voice, Summer couldn’t help but get teary as she realized she finally escaped, "President Norris, I’m heading to the company now. I have something very important to tell you."
"That’s great. The company is very busy right now. But are you sure you’re feeling okay?"
"I’m fine," Summer closed her eyes, took a deep breath, suppressing the lump in her throat to regain her usual calm and capable demeanor, "President Norris, I have clues about the leaked Moonlight manuscript. The leak was by Stellart’s designer, Sheryl. I’ll discuss the details when I get back, but you’d better take control of Sheryl now."
"Sheryl?" Noah’s tone became strange on the other end of the phone, "I didn’t get a chance to tell you, but while you were on leave yesterday, Sheryl submitted her resignation via email, which I haven’t approved yet. But as of now, no one in the company can reach her."
Hearing about Sheryl’s resignation, Summer’s heart sank as she recalled what Maxim had told her in the early hours.
Sheryl was problematic, but even Maxim didn’t know who instructed Sheryl to target her, let alone Sheryl’s true motives.
"Summer? Summer? Are you listening?" After not hearing from Summer for a while, Noah, mistaking the call for being disconnected, repeatedly called out.
Summer rubbed her temples and sighed helplessly: "Let’s leave it for now. I’m on my way to the company, and we can talk about things in detail when I get there."
"Alright, we’ll talk when you get to the company then," responded Noah readily, "It’s not really convenient to discuss on the phone anyway."
Half an hour later, Summer changed into a spare business suit in the office break room and took a moment to apply some makeup.
Her face, having lacked rest for two consecutive days, wasn’t exactly presentable.
After finishing her makeup, Summer took the elevator to Noah’s office and pushed the door open.
Behind the desk, the visibly overwhelmed Noah quickly rose and waved her over: "You’re finally here." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"President Norris, I couldn’t quite hear over the phone earlier. Did you say Sheryl resigned?"
"Yes," Noah smacked the desk in frustration, "She emailed her resignation early yesterday morning. I planned to wait for her to come to work so we could talk, but she didn’t show, and she’s not answering her phone."
This was not good. Summer’s slender brows furrowed: "She always had good relationships. Have you tried getting other designers to contact her?"
"Of course, I have," Noah spread his hands, "But no one can reach her; we’ve tried calling, emailing, contacting her on every social platform—nothing’s worked."
"This...," Summer’s expression grew increasingly grim, "Should we call the police?"
"Let’s wait and see," Noah shook his head and then brought up the matter Summer mentioned earlier in the car, "Now about your side, you mentioned on the phone that Sheryl was involved in the Moonlight manuscript leak?"
"Yes, I suspect that Sheryl leaked Moonlight’s manuscript."
Summer recounted the surveillance incident from that day. After finishing, seeing Noah’s doubt, she thought for a moment and decided to also reveal the incident of being drugged by Sheryl at the bar the day before.
"What did you say?" Noah’s expression changed drastically, "Sheryl drugged you when she invited you for drinks?"
Summer nodded grimly: "Actually, before this, I always thought Sheryl was the only designer who accepted me. I never expected that she would be the harshest of all."
"Then this escalates things. We should report this to the authorities!"
Noah said as he picked up his phone, but the next second, Summer reached out to stop him: "Not yet, if this gets out, it’s not good for the company’s reputation. Let’s first gather evidence about her maliciously leaking the manuscript, and then file a lawsuit. This way, we can recover some of the losses from the Moonlight manuscript leak."
"But, in doing so... it means your grievance will go unaddressed?" Noah put down his phone, looking at Summer with concern in his eyes.
"That doesn’t matter. The most pressing thing now is to mitigate the company’s losses."
Besides, Summer didn’t want anyone to know that Maxim saved her again.
