Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Worse News

Linda, uncertain of Summer Lowell’s intentions, thanked her, adjusted her skirt, and sat comfortably on the single sofa. She then took the coffee prepared by Assistant Fletcher, took a small sip, and placed it on the side table.

She looked up quietly at Summer Lowell, waiting for her to speak.

Summer Lowell, smiling, turned and gestured to her assistant, saying, "You can leave for now. I’ll call you if I need you. Please guard the door and try not to let anyone in. I want to have a long chat with Linda."

From the looks of it, she was ready for a long private conversation with Linda.

Linda, not inclined to sit alone with her for long, reluctantly said, "Director Lowell, I still have a lot of work to do. If it’s nothing urgent, can we chat another time?"

Summer Lowell chuckled calmly, "Why are you in such a hurry? I just want to chat briefly, maybe ten or twenty minutes. It won’t take too much of your time, nor will it affect your work today, don’t worry."

"Well... alright then," Linda agreed reluctantly.

Assistant Fletcher turned and left the office, standing quietly at the door.

Once the office door closed, Summer Lowell picked up her cup of coffee and savored it bit by bit.

Across from her, Linda, seeing her so composed, defiantly picked up her own coffee.

After about half a cup of coffee, Summer Lowell put down her cup, clasped her hands loosely on her crossed knee, and smiled warmly at Linda opposite her, "Did you have any contact with the Sinclair Group today, or did they contact you?"

Linda felt a jolt but managed to keep her expression unchanged, looking blankly at Summer Lowell, "What are you talking about? I don’t understand."

"Really don’t understand or just pretending not to understand?" Summer Lowell smiled, touching her earlobe lightly, her sharp gaze never leaving Linda’s face, "I could tell you were guilty the moment you walked into the office. Let’s be honest, what high price did Maxim offer you to sabotage my brooch?"

Linda was momentarily stunned by these words but then sneered at Summer Lowell, "I thought it was something important. All this fanfare to blame me for the brooch damage? Summer Lowell, I didn’t expect you, always so righteous, to skillfully resort to such underhanded tactics!"

"You..."

Summer Lowell’s face changed but quickly returned to normal, "Linda, what if I say I’ve seen the agreement between you and Maxim Sinclair?"

Unafraid, Linda snorted, "Ridiculous, even if you slapped that supposed agreement down in front of me, it wouldn’t prove I damaged your brooch."

"So, you admit to having private dealings with the Sinclair Group?" Summer Lowell pressed, unwilling to concede.

"I never admitted to any secret dealings with the Sinclair Group, Summer Lowell. I know you’re in a tough spot and are eager to find the mole in our company to secure your position. I also know you’ve held a grudge against me for a long time, trying to take this opportunity for personal revenge, right?"

Linda said, pulling out her phone, looking triumphant as she faced Summer Lowell, "To be honest, I’ve been on a live call with a friend since before I entered this office. She has recorded our entire conversation."

Summer Lowell’s expression remained unchanged as she smirked, "But your secret dealings with the Sinclair Group are real. If I reveal this to the headquarters, do you think they won’t suspect you? At that point, what evidence do you have to prove you had nothing to do with the brooch damage?"

Linda’s face showed a flash of panic but quickly regained composure, retorting, "Then how do you explain your relationship with Maxim Sinclair? I recall you spent the night at a hotel with him the day you returned to the country, didn’t you?"

"You..."

Summer Lowell gritted her teeth lightly, knowing that Noah and the headquarters wouldn’t believe her without evidence and wouldn’t automatically suspect Linda.

They would definitely ask her for proof and question where exactly she had seen that contract.

Similarly, questions about her relationship with Maxim Sinclair would come up again.

Seeing her at a loss for words, Linda smiled with satisfaction, "Director Lowell, I’m sorry I can’t help you with this. I have other things to attend to, so I won’t disturb you. For the sake of our years of acquaintance, I wish you good luck finding out the truth!"

With that, ignoring Summer Lowell’s reaction, Linda got up and sashayed out of the office.

Seeing Linda walk out of the office, with a triumphant smile on her face, Assistant Fletcher, sensing something was amiss, made an excuse to deliver something and entered to check on Summer Lowell.

Upon entering, she saw Summer Lowell by the window, resting her forehead on one hand.

Concerned, Assistant Fletcher approached, "Director Lowell, are you alright?"

Summer Lowell slowly raised her head, "I’m fine. Why did you come in?"

"I came in to bring you something." Assistant Fletcher gestured to the box in her hand, "The manager from HR was here earlier, saying they bought new coffee they thought you might like, and they brought you a box."

"Did you thank him for me?" Summer Lowell tidied her disheveled hair and walked to her desk, turning on the computer, "In the cabinet behind you, there are some prepared gift boxes I chose as small souvenirs. Pick a couple suitable ones and give them to him in return."

"Okay, Director Lowell." Assistant Fletcher agreed, turning to the cabinet, multitasking by choosing the gifts while secretly observing Summer Lowell at the desk.

Just then, the phone on Summer Lowell’s desk rang. She glanced at the caller ID and saw it was from the president’s office upstairs.

Summer Lowell’s heart tightened, immediately considering several possible ways headquarters might handle her situation.

"Hello, President Norris."

Over the phone, Noah’s voice was deep and solemn, "Summer Lowell, I have even worse news for you."

Prepared to pack up and leave, Summer Lowell exhaled slowly, voice calm, "President Norris, just tell me directly. I can handle it, regardless of how headquarters intends to deal with me."

"Worse than anything headquarters might do," through the static, Noah’s voice remained cold and grave, "Headquarters currently hasn’t made a decision regarding your withdrawal from the competition; they only asked me to thoroughly investigate the damaged project."

Relieved that she wasn’t going to be fired, Summer Lowell exhaled slightly, "So, President Norris, what is the worse news you mentioned?"

"I’ve just received accurate information that Maxim Sinclair used extreme methods to take over the Four Seasons Wind project. There will be no subsequent bidding; the project is now directly owned by the Sinclair Group."
