Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 75: Three-Person Dinner—A Total Battlefield
"Look at what you’re saying, I have such a good memory, how could I possibly forget that Stellart considers me a rival!"
Maxim Sinclair warmly put his arm around Justin Huxley’s shoulder and gave him a couple of ambiguous pats, "You’re here, it’s just a meal, it’s not that serious. Besides, we have such a good relationship, you wouldn’t be unwilling to even have a meal with me, would you?"
Justin Huxley, who didn’t dare to offend him yet, immediately shook his head and denied, "How could that be, I just heard people say that there’s a competitive project between your two companies, I said it for both of your sakes, to avoid outsiders seeing and easily spreading rumors against you two. Since President Sinclair doesn’t mind, let’s go together."
Since Justin Huxley, who was hosting, nodded in agreement, Summer Lowell could only suppress her dissatisfaction and walk forward alongside him.
Maxim Sinclair, who was separated from Summer Lowell by one person, used his height advantage to sneak a peek at Summer’s expression, and then, with a pointed tone, said, "Do I look like someone easily swayed by rumors?"
Justin Huxley, intending to shield Summer from Maxim’s gaze, laughed out loud and deliberately covered Summer as they walked forward, "President Sinclair, young and promising, naturally you aren’t afraid of gossip. The place I booked is on the fifth floor, let’s take the elevator up, please go first, President Sinclair."
Maxim Sinclair’s feet stayed firmly in place, with a gentle smile on his face, he lifted his gaze to ask Summer behind Justin, "Ladies first, won’t you go in?"
Not wanting to engage with him, Summer politely shook her head, "President Sinclair, you go first."
As soon as she finished speaking, Justin shoved Maxim into the elevator, "I’ve never seen you be so formal with me before, we’re all so familiar, no need for formalities and politeness here."
"No need for formality with you," Maxim leaned lazily against the elevator, his gaze fleeting over Summer, still hidden behind Justin, "Today is different, there’s a lady here requiring a display of gentlemanly etiquette."
"Cut it out!" Justin interrupted him with a playful tone, then diverted the topic, "Where are your assistant and bodyguard? Why aren’t they with you?"
"Why should they follow me? I’m just out for a stroll because I’m free, having so many people around would only be conspicuous!" Maxim replied lazily.
In the other corner of the elevator, Summer stared straight at the changing numbers, inwardly regretting.
If she hadn’t accepted Justin’s invitation today, she wouldn’t have been so unlucky to run into Maxim.
The thought of having to sit in the same private room with Maxim, with Justin nearby, made her wish she could grow wings and fly away immediately.
Now she just hoped Maxim wouldn’t do anything outrageous later, or it would be bad if Justin misunderstood.
Once in the private room, Maxim deliberately sat directly opposite Summer.
Sitting directly opposite wasn’t enough, he even made a point of chatting with Summer back and forth, with a particularly sincere expression, "I heard that Director Lowell doesn’t have as much work stress as before?"
Summer’s expression remained unchanged as she nodded, "Mm-hmm, thanks to President Sinclair, you generously took over the toughest project I had, lightening my burden immensely. I’ve luckily had some time to rest these past few days. You can’t imagine how good it feels to be well-rested."
Maxim knew she was being sarcastic, yet instead of getting angry, he found her charming like this and wanted to stir things up more.
For some reason, he enjoyed seeing Summer angry.
Especially when it was due to his actions.
"I’ve helped Director Lowell quite a bit, how are you going to thank me?" Maxim clinked glasses with Summer with a warm smile, "If you really think about it, I’ve helped you more than a little!"
Summer, unable to lose her temper, could only seethe inside. She lifted her glass and clinked it against Maxim’s with gusto, "I’ve always remembered, President Sinclair, you are my benefactor. Here’s to you, and I hope President Sinclair can continue to lend a hand in the future."
Seeing Summer’s demeanor, Maxim was momentarily surprised, suddenly feeling something was off.
But he couldn’t quite put his finger on exactly what.
In the moment he was dazed, Summer had already set down her glass and turned to happily chat with Justin.
From his perspective, it was obvious the smile Summer gave him differed significantly from the one she gave Justin.
Watching the two chattering across the table, a dark storm brewed in Maxim’s eyes, and he raised his glass to the pair across the table, "It’s rare for the three of us to gather for a meal today, let’s toast!"
Just as he lifted his glass, he sensed someone sitting down next to him, turning his head to see, surprisingly, it was Tina Huxley.
Tina, impeccably made-up, greeted Maxim with a dazzling smile, "Brother Maxim, are you so surprised to see me?"
Maxim set down his glass, discreetly glanced at Justin diagonally opposite, and casually asked, "Did you happen to be shopping around here? Or did your brother especially invite you over?"
Upon hearing this, Summer also turned to look at Justin.
Because Tina was also someone she preferred not to see.
Before Justin could answer, Tina spoke up, "My brother didn’t call me, I was just shopping nearby, and I vaguely saw Brother Justin’s silhouette upstairs, so I texted him to confirm if it was him. He said yes and mentioned he was here having dinner with you all, so I decided to join in."
By this point, Summer had lost the desire to continue the meal.
She maintained a courteous smile as she greeted Tina, then while Tina was talking to the two men, she discreetly pulled out her phone under the table and sent a message to her assistant.
A few minutes later, her assistant’s call came as expected. Summer hurriedly said a few words as planned in the text, then quickly hung up, apologizing to everyone at the table, "I’m really sorry, my assistant just called, asking me to return to the company now. They said there’s a small detail issue with the draft, the designers are debating endlessly, and I need to go address it."
Maxim, who vaguely sensed the reason for this sudden call, promptly stood up, "I happen to have something to attend to back at the company as well, I’ll drop you off on the way!"
Summer dared not let him drive her, shaking her head quickly to refuse, "No, no, my assistant has already booked a car for me, I’ll be able to go straight back to the company, no need to trouble you, President Sinclair."
As she spoke, she turned and also declined Justin, who was rising to see her off, "Senior, I’m sorry I can’t finish this meal with you today, I will invite you sometime when I’m free."
