Chapter 844: Chapter 436: Extra: The Engagement Ring He Made Up for Her 1

Jennifer Douglas glanced at Christine Quinn and said wryly, "Mrs. Jones, your temper isn’t great, is it? Compared to me, you’re quite lacking... But in one aspect, you are better than me, which is that you’re prettier than me."

Christine Quinn responded indifferently, "Being prettier than you is enough."

Jennifer nodded in agreement, "That’s true, men do like pretty women. I suppose that’s why Oversky only noticed you among so many people."

"Back to the main topic... you haven’t told me why you’re looking for him."

Jennifer finally answered directly, "It’s easy to guess... I saw in the news that he’s planning to sell ’Oversky,’ which worried me. Recalling how he’d previously given most of the profits from the TSOL project to Nonta to distance himself from me, causing cash flow issues for the company, I feared that might be why he’s selling ’Oversky.’ So I asked my daddy to come to Y City with funds to find him... My daddy wants to use the money to force Oversky to marry me, but I no longer have those desires. I simply wanted to help him. Yet when I saw you by his side, I suddenly changed my mind and didn’t want to help him anymore because seeing you with him makes me unhappy."

So that’s the reason...

Christine breathed a sigh of relief and asked, "So, when you said you’re pregnant, was that a lie?"

"If I said it was true, would you believe me?"

"I don’t know."

"You probably can’t be sure whether Oversky and I ever had a relationship, can you?"

"I have no doubt about that... he clearly explained to me that he’s never had a relationship with you while sober."

"He’s quite honest... but it seems that statement didn’t completely reassure you."

Christine chose silence for a moment.

Jennifer laughed, "Seems like you care, even if while drunk he mistook another woman for you. It still bothers you what he might have done."

Christine remained silent.

Jennifer suddenly leaned back in her chair, smiling at Christine, "Seeing you looking so dejected makes me really happy. But, as you said, I’m kind-hearted and soft, I couldn’t deceive you... How could I have ever had any relationship with Skyler Jones? Usually, I’m the one seeking him out. Every time I wanted to take things further, something would interrupt, or he’d find a way to avoid it... Sometimes when he gets drunk and comes to me, he always ends up calling ’darling, darling,’ which is what he calls the woman he truly loves. Even though I’m infatuated with him, I’m not so far gone that I’d let myself be a stand-in for another woman to fulfill his fantasies about her when he’s not fully aware."

Admittedly, hearing Jennifer’s words brought joy to Christine’s heart, even though she felt Jennifer might be hiding something.

"Feeling overjoyed inside, aren’t you?"

"Thank you for being so honest with me."

"There’s no need to hide it from you. Even if I used breaking you and Oversky apart as a means to return to him, I wouldn’t win his heart."

"In any case, thank you for explaining things to me."

Jennifer stood up from the chair and put on her sunglasses.

"No need for thanks, I’ll consider it a good deed... If nothing else, I’ll get going first; my daddy is still waiting for me at the airport." As she spoke, Jennifer had already turned and left.

Watching Jennifer’s departing figure, Christine breathed a sigh of relief, suddenly feeling much lighter.

Christine had only been out for a little over an hour before she returned.

When she got home, Skyler Jones was in the study, on a phone call.

Christine didn’t intentionally eavesdrop, but as she pushed open the study door, she accidentally heard him mention the word "ring."

Seeing her enter, he ended the call and smiled at her, "You’re back?"

"Yeah."

"What did you go out and buy?"

Christine walked over to him and said gently, "I told you earlier, I went to buy some personal items."

Skyler reached out his long arm, pulling Christine onto his lap. With their faces close, he murmured softly, "You’ve only been gone a little over an hour, but it felt like a century to me."

In that moment, Christine turned her face, gazed at Skyler for a second, and then took the initiative to give his cheek a quick kiss.

Skyler was quite surprised, "This..."

"Your reward."
