Chapter 206: Genny’s secret

Braelyn’s POV

I stared blankly at the little girl before.

"Mummy there is a beautiful stranger here..."

Ehm...who was her mummy? Did Genny secretly get pregnant behind my back? At that moment, I forgot my own problems and was caught up in the gossip.

I stepped out of the doorway to check the number. It was indeed Genny’s apartment number. I glanced back at the gremlin who was staring at me with those cute eyes

Something must be wrong with me. I stepped out again, in case I didn’t make a mistake, it was indeed Genny’s apartment. But when did she have a daughter, or did she have someone staying over?

I blinked at the little girl, still trying to process what I was seeing. Strawberry-blonde curls framed her tiny face, her blue eyes wide and curious, far too familiar for comfort. She didn’t look like Genny that much, the only similarity was her habit. Her brows were knitted together the same way Genny’s brows knit together when she was trying to figure something out

"Beautiful stranger?" I muttered under my breath, my voice hoarse. I pulled out my phone from my bag to call Genny, maybe just maybe I got to the wrong apartment

The phone rang, and I heard it ringing from the sitting room. It was indeed Genny’s place. Did I mistakenly cross Dimensions and enter a multiverse, and have a daughter?

The girl blinked. "Are you looking for someone? There isn’t anyone here aside from my mummy. "She said and my face froze. I squatted over to her level, still keeping a safe distance between us, not to scare her.

She took a safe step back, clearly wary of my appearance. "Honey, please, who is your mummy?" I asked her

Her face turned serious, and she said seriously like a little adult. "My mummy said I should not tell others she is my mummy. " Her words made my frown deepened

I nervously gulped, and my fingers twitched. I didn’t know why I felt so panicked at the fact that it might be Genny’s child. Was it jealousy because of my condition, or was it because my best friend hid something so important from me?

"Is your mother Genenieve?" I asked and the girl’s eyes went wide. She couldn’t hide it. My heart squeezed. The child was truly Genenieve’s child.

Before I could ask her any further questions, footsteps rushed toward us.

"Alora!" a woman’s voice called out sharply. "What did I say about shouting?"

"Mummy there is someone at the door." The girl replied, and then Genny appeared, her hair damp as she stepped out of the shower, her body wrapped in a bathrobe.

She froze the moment she saw me. I glanced between the girl and her we both looked pale

"Brae?" Her eyes widened, then immediately softened. "Oh my God. What are you doing here?" she blurted rushing forward

Before I could even say her name, Alora spun around and pointed at me dramatically. "She’s really pretty, mummy."

I let out a weak, breathless laugh despite myself. "Hi," I said awkwardly, giving the little girl a small wave. Before giving Genny a look of pure betrayal. "When did you get a baby this big and why am I just finding out by coincidence?" I shot at her. The betrayal of her keeping something so huge made me forget all about Raphael, or Lucien, or even Mum’s diary.

Genny looked between us, her lips parted, then closed. She was looking for a really good excuse. " Alora sweetheart, go sit on the couch for a moment, okay?" she urged the girl, her hand fixing her bathrobe knot.

"But...." Alora wanted to argue. Genny gave her a firm pat that shut her up.

"Now," Genny said gently but firmly.

The girl huffed, shooting me one last curious look before trotting off into the apartment.

The moment she was out of earshot, silence fell on both of us. "So you are going to talk first. You have a kid." I said quietly.

She hesitated for a moment before nodding." She turned 5 last summer." My stomach dropped. Her daughter was already 5. I missed five years of being my Bestie’s child aunt.

"5 years..." I repeated, and Genny awkwardly laughed, rubbing her head. "You are telling me you have been a mother for 5 years and it never crossed your mind to tell me. Are we even best friends?" I questioned her and the look of pure guilt filled her face.

"I thought we were soul sisters. " I said dramatically. Part of me was using this as an excuse to avoid my problems.

Genny really stared at me. "Were you crying, Brae?" She asked, leaving me stunned. I rubbed my sticky cheeks then glared at her.

"Yes, I was crying, but this isn’t about me, but you. Don’t try to change the topic. " I pointed a finger at her nose. It was comical because Genny was pretty tall. She was around 185 cm which was almost 6 feet 1 inch.

She laughed rubbing the back of her head. Alora’s voice rang again. "Mummy!!" She seemed like a bundle of trouble.

"It’s a long story but we can’t talk here." She stepped aside for me. "Come in Brae. I know you also have a lot to say considering you came to my home pretty unannounced. "

I walked past her. "So it’s a crime to come here. If I am not welcomed, I can just go to a hotel. " I grumbled. Genny shut the door behind me, then grabbed my hand, pulling me towards the living room.

" I know you are pissed, but don’t say stuff like that." She snapped.

We got to the living room. Alora was watching a random cartoon I didn’t know while Genny forced me to take a seat.

"Please wait here, let me get us something to drink and change clothes." She said before leaving me with Alora.

As soon as Genny was gone Alora turned towards me and asked. "Are you Mummy’s close friend?" She asked.

I nodded. "Why did you ask?" I questioned her.

She sighed." Because mummy normally doesn’t agree that she is my mummy. You must be best pals for her to tell you." The girl admitted to leaving me more stunned. What was going on here?
