Craved by the Wrong Volkov-Chapter 249: he knows?
Meanwhile, New Horizon had just challenged a titan, and the business world was anticipating the war. Elsewhere, Genny was fighting her own.
Her lips twitched as she saw Joey’s annoyingly handsome face. Today she was among the photographers hired for the promotion of a fashion campaign. As much as she did not want to run into Joey, she still had to work.
Genny was still young, but she had made a name for herself in the industry. She was talented and had sufficient resources from the Moreau family. Although her family had not always supported her career choices, they had eventually decided to back their rebellious daughter.
If she had known he would be on this set, she would probably have rejected the offer. To the public, Joey was a famous online influencer whose popularity rivaled even mainstream celebrities.
He was a talented game streamer with a face that made girls who normally had no interest in games become his fans just to see him. His large, die-hard simping fan base was no joke.
In Genny’s opinion, he felt more like a peacock. His fan base rivaled A-list celebrities, and he even had stars who openly admitted being his fans. Only people like Braelyn, who were not into streaming, were unaware of his fame.
Despite his fame, Joey was picky about endorsements. Some thought he was uninterested. Only a few knew he was actually an heir of the Alvarez family, a titan in the hospitality and estate development industry.
He was not easily enticed by most deals, so Genny wondered why the infamous ice prince had suddenly become interested in so many brands, practically showing up at almost all her shoots.
She watched as Joey, flustered by other models trying to speak to him, interacted with one of the brand’s biggest faces, Natasha, the angel as she was called for her flawless beauty and charm from albinism. She was also Raphael’s sister, though that was not public.
Genny only knew because of her relationship with the Volkov family. She drew in a deep breath and tried to avoid Joey, whose appearance was becoming less of a coincidence.
"What is my duty?" she asked, glancing at the promotion campaign creative director, a woman in her late thirties dressed elegantly, grinning because she had managed to get the ice prince on her shoot.
"Today’s shoot has a lot to cover, but you will be the lead photographer handling Joey and Natasha. I heard your talent can handle the glamour," the director informed Genny. Genny almost laughed. This was no coincidence.
She forced herself to remain composed. "I will try my best," she assured the director, who smiled.
"Perfect. I trust you," she chimed before moving forward loudly.
"Positions, everyone. We are going to start in five," the director declared. Genny sighed and moved into position with her crew.
She was completely unaware of the gaze drifting toward her from across the room. Joey’s lips twitched with slight annoyance. He felt like laughing at Genny’s determination to ignore him.
"Will you be free after the shoot? We are planning on hitting a bar later," one of the female models suggested excitedly. Joey glanced at her, not knowing who she was.
He gave her a cold look, not bothering with appearances. "I have other things to do. The shoot is about to start. You should get into position," he replied curtly. The star’s smile faltered for a moment but quickly returned.
"Of course. I look forward to working with you," she said stiffly before dispersing with the other models who understood Joey’s personality. He was not one for small talk.
Everyone cleared out except for a figure that remained. Joey arched his brow at Natasha. Before she could speak, she beat him to it.
"We are working together. This is a Christmas team couple shoot," Natasha explained. December was approaching, and the brand was already preparing for their Christmas project. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Joey nodded, still disinterested in Natasha. His gaze drifted toward Genny, who was laughing at something a random guy said. He felt like rolling his eyes. She was acting like a saint.
Natasha noticed where Joey had been staring and could not resist chiming in. "Do you have something for her? You have been stealing glances at her." Her voice made Joey’s irritation double.
"I thought you had a girlfriend," she added. Joey could not ignore her anymore.
His sharp gaze snapped to Natasha. "I have no idea when the young miss of the Volkov family got interested in my personal matters. I would appreciate it if we kept things professional," he said, shutting her down. Natasha’s smile froze for a moment.
His tone was not unexpected. She and Joey had known each other for ages. He was not Lucien’s childhood best friend, and she could count the number of proper conversations they had had.
The director’s voice boomed, and everyone got into position. Joey and Natasha moved to their shoot area. Genny approached with her camera, giving them minimal instructions, and started shooting.
Luckily, the shoot went smoothly. Everyone was professional, and even though Joey and Natasha were not close, they were able to pull off the couple’s vibe. Genny took every picture with an unreadable expression that Joey found amusing.
As soon as the shoot ended for the day, Genny practically fled, packing her things to leave as soon as possible in the locker room. She was organising her bag when she heard a click from the door that made her freeze.
Her gaze locked on Joey, who was calmly waiting at the door. "When are you going to stop this game of chase?" he asked coldly, his tone colder than usual.
Genny shuddered, her jaw clenched. "I am not playing any games, Joey. Besides, why are you even bothering about me? Don’t you have a girlfriend?" she retorted, unable to hide her irritation. Her attempt to avoid him had failed.
Joey smiled at the word girlfriend. He sensed the slight bitterness in her voice, though that was not his main reason for cornering her. "You can’t avoid me forever, Genevieve. One way or another, we will have to talk about the girl."
Genny scoffed as she hung her bag, her eyes sharp. "We have nothing to talk about. I already said before she isn’t yours. After all, you don’t even remember anything." Her words confirmed something for Joey.
He straightened and strode toward her, forcing her into a corner. Even with her tall height, she was overshadowed by his frame. Her heart raced at the intensity in his eyes.
He stopped when she had nowhere to go. Joey leaned down and sniffed her hair. "Chocolate flavour," he muttered. For a weird reason, her heart jumped.
"That was the same hint I remembered from five years ago," he drawled, his eyes narrowing. "The world is a small place." He chuckled. Genny’s head snapped up. Was it possible he remembered the truth? She was screwed.
