Chapter 339: Her princess

Braelyn’s POV

The scan was arranged so quickly it almost felt unreal. This hospital was owned by the Voss family so it wasn’t too surprising. One moment I was still trying to process everything, and the next I was lying on the bed with machines around me while nurses moved with quiet urgency.

My fingers stayed wrapped around Lucien’s hand the entire time. I did not even realise how tightly I was holding on until he shifted slightly and tightened his grip in return, like he understood without me needing to say a word.

Francesca stood close by, I was glad she stayed. Her presence gave me a weird sense of comfort. Kyle was the one in charge. Honestly this was a job beneath his expertise but I was Braelyn Voss. He could not afford any mistakes.

The cold gel touched my stomach and I flinched a little, my body already too sensitive. The cold sensation rang through my spine.

"Relax," Kyle said softly. "It will be over soon." His calm voice made me visibly relax. This all still felt like a fever dream. I nodded, even though my heart refused to slow down.

Lucien’s thumb brushed slowly over my hand in a reassuring way and I focused on that instead of the screen, instead of the storm in my head. I stayed like that until Kyle finally moved the probe.

For a moment, there was nothing but static..My chest tightened and I held my breath without realising it, my entire body going still as if any movement would ruin whatever fragile thing was about to happen.

Then I heard it..A sound, a slow rhythmic beat that made me gasp. My eyes widened as the rhythm filled the room, something inside me snapping into place.

"Is that...?" My voice came out quiet, almost afraid.

"That is the heartbeat," Kyle said. Lucien still beside me. Kyle gave him a knowing look. Everything inside me stilled in a way that felt almost painful.

It was real. Not a mistake or something I imagined. I was carrying a child.

Lucien’s hand tightened around mine, and I turned slightly, just enough to look at him. He was staring at the screen, his expression unreadable, but the tension in his shoulders had eased in a way I could feel even without touching him.

"It is strong," Kyle continued. "Very stable. From what I can see, everything looks good."

A shaky breath left my lips as tears burned in my eyes and slipped out before I could stop them. I was scared my condition would affect the baby growth

"Can you tell the gender?" I asked, the words coming out faster than I intended, like I needed to know everything at once.

Kyle let out a small laugh. "It might be a little early, but we can try..." he said probing further searching for something Lucien’s eyes caught first.

"It is a girl." Lucien’s voice cut in calmly, his gaze locked on the screen. That wasn’t a guess, I keep on forgetting my lover was a doctor.

I turned to him fully this time, my heart skipping in my chest..Francesca gasped beside me, her excitement immediate. "A girl?"

Kyle chuckled, shaking his head slightly. "I guess the Voss family curse does not apply to you."

I did not even question what he meant. My attention was locked on the screen, on the tiny flicker of movement that felt like everything all at once.

A girl. My future princess..The thought wrapped around my chest tightly in a way I could not explain. Each heartbeat echoed in my ears, syncing with my own.

Francesca leaned closer, already pulling out her phone. "Can I tell them? I have been holding this in for too long." her eyes were pleading literally begging.

I hesitated for a brief moment, the outside world creeping back in. She tried had enough to stay silent this long. But then my hand moved instinctively to my stomach, and something inside me shifted.

She sensed my hesitation and added. " With a child in the equation Yelena would back down and even if she does not the Voss family never forget blood ties."

Her words struck me. My father walked out from the family but they never forgot him

I swallowed and nodded. "Just the family. For now."

Francesca’s face lit up instantly. "Of course."

She started typing immediately, her excitement impossible to hide.

Lucien leaned slightly closer, his voice low enough that only I could hear. "I am not letting you out of my sight again." There was no teasing in his tone, no playfulness to soften it. He meant it

"And I am not giving up on revenge either," he added quietly.

A faint smile touched my lips. "He still refuses to divorce me. Honestly, he can take everything my father left."

Lucien’s head snapped toward me, his gaze sharp enough to make my breath catch.

"Have you lost faith in me?" he asked, his voice low but firm.

I blinked, caught off guard.

"He will sign those papers," he continued, his tone leaving no room for doubt. "Trust me." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

Something about the way he said it made my heart race. It did not sound like hope..It sounded like a promise.

********

A few minutes later, I was seated in Kyle’s office, and the warmth from earlier had completely disappeared.

Something felt off. Francesca had stepped out, still glued to her phone, but Lucien remained beside me, his presence steady and unmoving.

Kyle wasn’t the only doctor. Dr Melissa Scottfield was also here. The same doctor who had handled my tests months ago.

My stomach tightened immediately.

Kyle leaned forward slightly, his expression serious now, stripped of any earlier ease. "There is something we need to discuss."

My fingers curled unconsciously over my stomach. "What is it?" He mentioned the baby was safe earlier what could it be.

He glanced briefly at Dr Scottfield before looking back at me. "Your previous test results were delayed because there were inconsistencies we could not explain at the time."

A cold feeling crept up my spine. "What are you trying to say?" I blurted

Kyle exhaled slowly. "We understand why with your recent pregnancy..." he started. "Firstly this isn’t your first pregnancy to be more accurate you were once pregnant 5 years ago but the child was lost more like forced out when it was less than a month.."

My heart began to pound again, slower this time but heavier. What was he saying? I had never been pregnant before
