Chapter 349: Big puppy

Braelyn’s POV

"The media is on your neck and I heard New Horizon stocks were also affected..." For a moment, I couldn’t speak, still processing everything.

Genny’s words echoed in my head, refusing to settle into something I could process properly. It felt like everything had tilted slightly, like the ground beneath me was no longer steady.

They knew Lucien was Killian Orlov.

My fingers tightened around the phone unconsciously as my heart started to pound harder. Who was behind this only a few knew. Now it was turned into a weapon.

"Those people are disgusting," Genny snapped from the other end, her voice sharp with anger. "They twist everything. They are calling you a traitor, as you planned this from the start. This is clearly a set-up. Raphael is the one who cheated first."

She was fuming. I could imagine the smoke coming from her ears already. Her words rushed out of her mouth in anger, but I understood where it was coming from. Genny had always been like this, loud and reckless when defending those she cared about

I closed my eyes briefly, pressing my fingers against my temple as the headache worsened.

"Genny, calm down," I said quietly. "You should know better than to believe everything the media says."

There was a scoff on the other end. "I do not believe them. That is exactly why I am angry. They are dragging your name through the mud like this is some kind of entertainment."

I let out a slow breath, but my chest still felt tight. I had been in this world long enough to understand how it worked. Truth never mattered as much as timing. Whoever spoke first controlled the narrative, and right now, we were the villains.

That thought alone made something cold settle in my stomach.

Genny went quiet for a moment before her voice came back, lower this time, more hesitant. "Tell me something honestly... is it true?"

I already knew what she meant.

My grip on the phone tightened slightly. For a second, I considered dodging it, but there was no point. Genny would find out eventually, and lying would only make it worse.

"Yes," I said softly..There was silence.

Then a sharp intake of breath. "No fucking way... Lynn, are you serious? This is insane." Genny almost screamed. It was beyond her imagination.

I let out a small breath, my gaze unfocused as I stared ahead. "I know. I was equally shocked when I discovered everything. " I answered patiently

Genny started saying something else, still caught between disbelief and shock, but I barely heard her. The door creaked open, and my head snapped up instinctively.

Lucien walked in, already dressed, his expression was dark, his phone pressed to his ear. He did not notice me immediately. His entire attention was on the call, his voice was low with this eerie calm, but there was something sharp beneath it.

"...no, that is not enough," he was saying. "Take it down. Every platform."

My heart tightened slightly. So he already knew. No wonder he was already out of bed. That was expected, but seeing it, hearing it, made everything feel more real.

"Genny, I have to go," I said quickly, cutting her off.

"What? Wait, Lynn...." She was in the middle of ranting.

"I will call you later," I added before ending the call.

I pushed the blanket aside and got off the bed, moving toward him without thinking.

Lucien finally noticed me when I got close. His eyes flicked to me for a brief second, something soft flashing through them before it disappeared just as quickly. I stepped into him and wrapped my arms around him.

He responded instantly, one arm coming around me as he pressed a brief kiss to my temple, still speaking into the phone.

I was close enough to hear bits of the call from the other end. My eyes were staring Lucien’s clenched jaw from below. "We can’t take it down easily. I heard someone from the Volkov deliberately pushed the scandal." The other person hesitantly said

Lucien’s face went ugly. His hazel eyes turned glacier and my stomach churned. My mind immediately went to Raphael, so he knew. That annoying jerk. The thought came so naturally that it made my chest tighten. There was no other explanation.

His tone dropped, colder now. "I don’t care who is pushing the scandal." Lucien snapped. A cold pressure escaped him.

Lucien’s expression darkened further, his jaw tightening further "I do not care how you do it either," he continued, his voice dangerously calm. "Take it down, or I will give them a bigger scandal. One that has nothing to do with the Volkovs."

The threat was clear. Even without hearing the other side, I knew whoever he was speaking to understood.

"I will handle it, Mr Orlov," the faint voice came through before the call ended.

The room fell into silence. For a second, neither of us spoke.

Then Lucien pulled me fully into his arms, burying his face into my neck as if he needed the contact. The shift was so sudden it almost caught me off guard. The man who had just been issuing threats like a storm was now holding onto me like I was the only thing grounding him. A wolf turning into a big puppy.

I lifted my hand and gently patted his back. "Are you going to work?" I asked softly.

He let out a quiet sound against my skin, something almost like a groan before pulling back slightly to look at me.

"Your husband is ruthless, Viper," he muttered, his voice carrying a dramatic edge. His puppy eyes were dropping.

"I wake up and the world is already on fire. The jerk even took a court order to freeze all our assets related to Volkov Apex pending investigation for corporate espionage." Lucien said tiredly

I also felt a bone-deep exhaustion. I always knew Raphael was ruthless.

Despite everything, I knew that tone. Beneath the complaint, there was control. Lucien was not panicking. He was calculating and wanted to squeeze more affection for me. He was my cute big puppy.

That alone eased something in me, even if only slightly. A small smile curled up my lips

"I am sorry," I said quietly. "He is... a scumbag."

Lucien’s lips curved faintly at that, but it did not reach his eyes. "A very big scumbag." Lucien huffed satisfied I was dragging Raphael.
