Crown Of Hearts-Chapter 79: I am engaged
Chapter 79: I am engaged
If he spoke the right words, he could get an ally on his quest to find Silas.
"I am sure you want revenge." Alexander baited and the vampire’s eyes burned.
"More than anything." Ebenezer admitted.
"Then you will be pleased to know that I am searching for Silas. I am on a quest to find a way of breaking Damon’s curse. We could be allies." Alexander offered and the vampire was silent for a while, his eyes unfathomable as he assessed the half human- half wizard man before him.
If this man was going to help save his nephew’s life and lead him to Silas while doing so, Ebenezer saw no reason as to why he could refuse his offer.
"Deal. I will work with you...?" Ebenezer trailed off, not knowing the name of his new ally.
"Alexander. My name is Alexander." He held out his hand for a handshake and the vampire took it.
Alexander was glad now that he had extra protection from any creatures because a vampire was among the top three on the scroll he had worried he couldn’t defeat so easily.
Now, Alexander had one on his side and they had a common enemy in mind.
"You are mostly human and you need to sleep if we are to cover more ground tomorrow. I will stand guard." Ebenezer assured once they had briefly discussed their strategy and Alexander had shown him his compass.
Alexander felt much safer as he lay in his tent to get some rest but since he didn’t not really trust the vampire yet, he didn’t sleep as deeply.
The next morning, he woke up quite early and was impressed that the vampire had stayed up all night, keeping watch.
Ebenezer was seated a few meters away from his tent and his piercing blue eyes met his when he walked out his tent, reminding him of his fiance.
He missed Damon and strangely, having his new found relative joining his quest made Alexander feel a little better.
It was a gentle reminder that Damon was always with him, in his heart and thoughts.
"Don’t vampires require sleep?" Alexander asked after he had greeted Ebenezer.
"Not really. We can survive on a few hours of sleep each week." The vampire replied as he stood up. freewebnøvel_com
"How long have you been searching for Silas?" Alexander asked as he packed his tent and organized his belongings.
"Since I was turned into a vampire. It’s been twenty three years and sixteen days." Ebenezer replied and Alexander was impressed with his resilience.
"Any luck finding him?" Alexander asked as he carried is backpack, slowly snaking on the beef jerky and slightly stale bread in his hands.
"We had an encounter, a decade ago but the bastard had not aged at all. He looked just like I remembered with his rare golden eyes and midnight hair. Anyway, it was brief and he disappeared before I got to strangle the life out of him." Ebenezer grimaced as he recalled his run in with Silas.
The bloody wizard had made him unconscious with just a snap of his fingers and Ebenezer didn’t like the fact that he was so powerful.
Alexander held out his compass and they started their journey.
The vampire was skeptical as he looked at the trinket in his ally’s hand.
"How precise is that thing?" He asked.
"I have no idea but we are about to find out." Alexander admitted, smiling as he spotted smoke coming from a chimney in a distance.
Ebenezer saw it as well and together, they hastened their steps.
"Are you married?" Ebenezer was curious once he spotted the golden ring on Alexander’s finger.
"I am engaged." Alexander smiled, contemplating whether he should tell him that Damon was his fiance.
"Your finacee must be worried sick now that you are the black forest." Ezekiel admitted.
"Fiance. I am engaged to a man." Alexander replied and Ebenezer’s eyes widened in surprise before he smirked.
"It’s Damon, right?" He guessed and Alexander’s cheeks flushed as he nodded and Ebenezer patted his back in a congratulatory gesture.
It all made sense now. His nephew’s scent on the man and his unwavering determination to save Damon.
They were in love and Ebenezer was still surprised but happy for them.
They stopped walking once they could fully see the old cabin that the compass had led them to.
"I don’t think Silas is here." Ebenezer admitted and Alexander’s thoughts were the same.
"It could be another witch or wizard. Should we check it out?" Alexander suggested.
Ebenezer’s brows furrowed into a small frown as he recalled his encounters with numerous magic wielders over the years.
"This forest is crawling with lots of nasty creatures and the witches and wizards in this place are at the top of that list. We could be headed into a trap or some kind of danger. My advice, don’t accept any invitation into the house or any food and drinks offered.
Your kind also hates vampires and if we want to gain any information, I will have to stay here." Ebenezer explained and Alexander inhaled sharply as he looked at the eerie house.
"Go, I will come in if any trouble occurs." Ebenezer assured and Alexander summoned all his courage and approached the house.
He didn’t need to knock because the door swung open once he was before the three steps that led to the porch.
Alexander remained still, remembering Ebenezer’s warning not to step inside the house.
He cleared his throat and called out in a polite voice, inquiring if there was anyone in the house.
When he didn’t get a reply, he waited for about five minutes before turning his back to leave.
"A Beaumont?" A suspiciously cheerful voice made him turn around at the mention of his family name.
There was a young female on the porch with brown hair and dark blue eyes. She was pretty and looked particularly pleased to see him.
Alexander was skeptical as his lips curled into a small polite smile and his eyes remained alert.
"Good morning, miss." He greeted.
"Why don’t you come inside?" She offered.
"I am in a bit of a hurry, thank you. I just have a few questions." Alexander politely rejected her offer and she smirked.
"It’s smart that you are cautious. Unlike many, I have nothing against members of your family so, what do you what to know?" She asked.
